West Yorkshire, on the moors. It's very wild out, thankfully I moved everything in the garden to sheltered spots. Currently charging machines for the inevitable power loss.

eurochick · 21/12/2023 06:31

I'm south of London, albeit on top of a hill, and it is howling here.

Good point about the wreath. I will see if ours is still there when I get up.

GloriaSmud · 21/12/2023 07:09

Leicester (and on the edge of the metoffice warning area) and it's got windy in the last 1/2 hour and I'm hearing the odd gust but not too bad at the moment.

Looking at the GFS, it looks like the worst will be between now and midday, when it should begin to calm down in the hours after that. Later on though, attention will turn to the east coast and a possible storm surge.

Whinge · 21/12/2023 07:12

Another one here who had a very rude wake up call around 4am, and didn't get back to sleep again. It's wild here, and seems to be getting stronger. Shock

RampantIvy · 21/12/2023 07:14

South Yorkshie here. It's wild outside and has been all night. Will look for the wreath as soon as it gets light.

PickAChew · 21/12/2023 07:16

Bin day here in Durham. I suspect there will.be lot of chasing, this morning, if they're collected.

Last time we had a Danish named Storm (Malik) , it did a lot of damage, locally.

Also awake here and sat up with a cuppa. According to bbc weather the height of the wind is in the next hour or so with 56mph locally in this part of Cheshire. Can’t recall it being quite so windy for a while. The whole house is creaking and I can feel the pressure changes and the windows rattling. Too dark to see what’s going on outside.

Waves!

Definitely started ramping up here in the past hour. Really feels like it's peaking now.

GloriaSmud · 21/12/2023 07:38

Having said it isn't too bad here (Leicester), DH's just been out and said there are wheelie bins that have gone over everywhere. He had to move one out of the middle of the road so he could drop DD off for the bus.

FlatterNow · 21/12/2023 07:41

West Yorkshire as well, and we have a power cut. Waiting for daylight to inspect the garden as I was woken up at 5 by a loud bang. The tree silhouettes still look the same, thankfully.

Yhrist · 21/12/2023 07:58

Derbyshire here, DH is stuck between 2 fallen trees. Had to stop as one across the road, was turning the car round and another fell behind him. He’s very thankful to be alive this morning.

FlatterNow · 21/12/2023 08:09

Oh my goodness, that sounds terrifying!

Houseplanter · 21/12/2023 08:10

Warwickshire and it's actually quite frightening. We are on a hill but this feels and sounds scary. I'm expecting the conservatory to lift off down the garden any minute.

BarryKentPoet · 21/12/2023 08:13

East coast Scotland and eerily calm ...

Londonnight · 21/12/2023 08:16

Staffordshire here. I have lost my garden 6ft fence. The wind also broke the lock on my shed so the doors were flapping around this morning.

I am rented and luckily my landlord is great. Text them as soon as I could take photos of the damage, and they are are their way round now to access the damage.

ManxLife · 21/12/2023 10:05

Isle of Man, possibly no ferries till after Boxing Day. Lots of people stranded on the wrong side of the sea. Freight is a big issue. We've got unexpected guests for Christmas as they arrived on Monday with a boat booked back on Saturday morning and no sailings to UK planned on Christmas Eve....but ferry looks really unlikely to be going. That's about 8 sailings cancelled....

BlackeyedSusan · 21/12/2023 11:29

W Mids.

Windy here. Bins blown over. Ex's neighbour's gas meter door is blowing and banging on their wall.

There were still leaves on some trees as I drove past.

Either the wind is strong enough to blow a car about or some twat has parked overlapping the entrance to the builders' merchant and I got stuck behind a lorry trying to get in the gate. (And failing)

Our wreath is safe. Live in a flat and it's in the foyer.

BlackeyedSusan · 21/12/2023 11:30

(and there are three nicer wreaths to nick)

BlackeyedSusan · 21/12/2023 11:31

Mine just looks like it's been in a wind storm as it has to survive door slamming!

Loafbeginsat60 · 21/12/2023 11:57

Highlands here - it was a rough night but I think it sounded worse than it was.

Orkney and Shetland have had it way worse - it sounds a lot calmer outside now.

DS is trying to fly home from Birmingham and then get a train or bus back. Not sure how that's going to go....

Makinglists · 21/12/2023 12:44

Plymouth here is well away from the warning area but still quite windy - just had a gusty dog walk

RampantIvy · 21/12/2023 13:58

Power is off in the next village. No tills at Tesco working. We have had what I think is a power surge. Tinsley viaduct and Woodhead Pass closed to high sided vehicles. It's horrible.

nannynick · 21/12/2023 13:58

M6 around Lancaster was a bit windy. Really felt gusts pushing the car. Fun driving but on the plus side it is not pouring with rain.

justasking111 · 22/12/2023 00:06

After a lull in N Wales the high winds are back. Forecast says two more days of this 🙈

Tilllly · 22/12/2023 07:15

I'm in West Yorkshire and it sounds worse today than it has been so far!

Rowgtfc72 · 22/12/2023 17:13

Definitely sounds worse here than yesterday. We are right on the edge of a yellow warning for damaging winds on Christmas eve.
