It’s a bit grim out there!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/12/2023 08:57

It's entirely disgusting!

The worst of the winds will be around NW Northern Ireland, areas bordering the Irish sea and across NW England. But gales generally across Ireland, Northern Ireland, N Wales, northern England, Midlands and East Anglia.

A lot of rain too in many places, falling onto saturated ground and leading to isolated flooding.

Checking in!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/12/2023 09:13

It's going to play havoc with some Christmas markets in the affected areas I think!

I thought I could hear gusts of wind outside but was lulled into a sense of security with seeing sunlight sparkling through the windows too. Ugh!

Rain, rain, go away. Come back another day!!

justasking111 · 09/12/2023 13:58

Our Christmas medieval parade tonight with live torches is cancelled in Conwy 😭

TokyoSushi · 09/12/2023 13:59

Nothing really happening here in Cheshire, just 'heavy showers' and a bit breezy.

CrunchyCarrot · 09/12/2023 14:00

It's really blowing a gale here in Worcestershire.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/12/2023 14:03

That's sad justasking.

You might be in a sheltered location Tokyo I'd expect some parts to be gusting to around 55-60mph this afternoon.

Joining - due to land here this afternoon.

FunnysInLaJardin · 09/12/2023 14:09

At least its not in Jersey this time! Bit breezy but currently the sun is out

TheGirlWhoLived · 09/12/2023 14:55

@CrunchyCarrot i’m in Worcester too- we’re on top of a hill so camped inside else the 2 year old might blow away 😁

Workworkandmoreworknow · 09/12/2023 16:05

North West coastal area here - it is dreadful. The kind of weather that if it were anywhere else, it would be all over the news and there'd be a wringing of hands and general hysteria. Normal for round here...!

GloriaSmud · 09/12/2023 16:25

We had heavy rain here this morning (Leicester) and now the wind's getting up. Think it's going to be a stormy night.

ConsistentlyPeeved · 09/12/2023 17:06

@justasking111 will they be moving it to a different evening or has it been completely cancelled?
I had no idea this existed and would've loved to go!

AlisonDonut · 09/12/2023 17:08

It is just as disgusting today here in France if that helps.

Andywarholswig · 09/12/2023 17:30

I had a very eventful flight into Dublin airport this afternoon, seriously bouncy!

I don't know. You can follow on Facebook. Tis sad. Manorafon farm park cancelled a lot of sad children today 😭

TokyoSushi · 09/12/2023 18:33

Spoke too soon, grim here now in Cheshire, pouring rain and very windy.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 09/12/2023 18:36

Cumbrian coast here. It is appalling outside and has been since before lunchtime today. Howling a gale, pouring down all day.

Also on the NW coast. Just said to DH that if this was in the south it would be headline news. We’ve seen no weather warnings, I didn’t even know it was forecast to be windy today. This is as bad as any of the big storms we’ve had over the past few years!

LooksABitElvish · 09/12/2023 18:43

We’ve been delivering (now very damp) furniture to a charity shop. You could see waves of rain blowing up the high street. Would’ve been spectacular if you’d been watching from indoors. Not so great while you’re stood in it!

Now sounds like the roof is in danger. We don’t usually get the wind blowing from out the front of the house direction.

ListenLinda · 09/12/2023 19:42

Horrible here in West Yorkshire.
really howling wind and rain battering the windows.
top that off with a broken boiler so we have no heat or hot water, it’s especially grim.

FizzyStream · 09/12/2023 19:47

Crazy here in Greater Manchester. Funnily enough and like PP my husband asked why we hadn't heard much about it in the media. My answer: it probably doesn't affect London.......

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/12/2023 20:08

Weather warnings were issued yesterday. Sometimes it isn't apparent until a storm is developing how severe it might be.

Bit of a tip if you have an alexa - you can enable them to let you know where there is a local met office warning. You can also sign up for emailed weather alerts.
