It’s so depressing. The thought of no decent sunshine and proper warmth until next year is miserable.

I think that hotter weather is expected as August progresses. September is bound to be hot of course 🙄

It's defo a bit depressing but we've been very lucky with great summers in the south east last few yrs.

I'm in the SE and although we had rain all day yesterday, it's mainly been sunny and dry. It's lovely at the moment, 22 degrees with a fresh breeze

MrsSkylerWhite · 23/07/2023 13:43

Well thank providence! We’ve been worrying that we’re next in line for horrendous temperatures.

That's true, yesterday was totally vile, rained all bloody day and night
but I suppose we've come off lightly compared to other places in the UK

Badbudgeter · 23/07/2023 14:42

It is depressing I’m up in Scotland and it’s pretty much rained the whole summer holidays.

I see someone has started a ‘cosy’ thread already in chat. I mean in July. How long do they want to snuggle/fester under a blanket for? Is 9 months not enough. They are talking about Christmas and Halloween. I’m going to need to hide it (or get banned from Mumsnet)

I'm with you there.

Bbq1 · 23/07/2023 13:24

Must be a different climate in the NW then!

Oh have you had 8-10 weeks of warm summery weather up there in the NW? I had no idea.

Not yet. Had about 6 so far so definitely 8-10 by summers end.

Which 6 weeks were those? It was nice for 3 weeks in June in the SE surprised that you’ve had 3 more weeks of hot weather up there.

ilovesooty · 23/07/2023 18:23

Delatron · 23/07/2023 12:11

And we haven’t had 8/10 weeks and we won’t. We’ve had 3. The current forecast is that it ‘may’ improve and settle down mid August.

Yes and the cosy crew whinge and moan whenever there's more than a day or so of sunshine and warmth and bitterly resent people wanting to enjoy the meagre weeks of decent weather we have.

Sorry, i didn't keep track of thr actual weeks! I know that the last couple of weeks of May were lovely, all of June was hot and a bit at beginning of July. Where i live is named on the weather forecast at least a couple of times a summer as being the hottest area in the UK plus we apparently have a micro climate here. So it's not that much of a stretch.

Delatron · 23/07/2023 18:32

The last week in May had a few warm days, maybe 2. If by lovely you mean high teens and dry? But it wasn’t summer weather - as in mid 20s and hot and sunny.

Everyone has a different interpretation of ‘lovely’. The end of May definitely was drier than now but it wasn’t hot for 2 weeks anywhere in the UK.

I believe I need to apologise to everyone. I bought a new garden parasol last week so have probably jinxed the summer. Sorry.

I must apologise too. I bought a UV golf sun umbrella. Having said this, I am enjoying a sunny evening in the garden right now...

JamSandle · 23/07/2023 18:32

It is sunny here in London. Are many posters Midlands/North?

Abracadabra12345 · 23/07/2023 18:33

preggomeggo · 23/07/2023 12:57

Weather is really nice where I am today. Sunny and a lovely soft breeze. The park is full of people.

London?

ilovesooty · 23/07/2023 18:43

In West Yorkshire we've had a yellow weather warning for rain for 24 hours. It's barely stopped for days.

Crikeyalmighty · 23/07/2023 18:47

I think it must have been very variable throughout UK- I think I can honestly count on my hands the number of days since mid May where it's been warm(ish), sunny and dry 'all day' in Bath

LaurieFairyCake · 23/07/2023 10:02

There's still always SOME sunshine, and you can still get your vitamin d's worth when it's cloudy

It's so much better for going out for a walk this year than last year - I've got out every day

Last year there was about 2 weeks when I didn't go out in that heatwave

I don't mind cloud but.. there's not been some sunshine here
The river has breached its banks, the roads are so flooded that someone has taken a kayak down them as they're closed and the local food/drink/agriculture shows are washed out

We're heading to Cornwall for 2 weeks camping next week with 3 children. It's all we can afford and the only holiday we'll have until next summer, and next year will likely be every penny spent on the increased mortgage payments so may not even get away then.
The weather is looking, at worst wet and at best not very warm, highs of 20 at most.
Camping when it's constantly damp is miserable. We'll still go to the beach but can't do full days like the kids love to. Will end up spending much more on indoor stuff.
We've camped loads in rain, but it tends to be one or two days. Not two weeks.
Feeling very anxious about it all.
First world problems I know, but I want the kids to have a nice holiday.

@wejammin we have just come back from a week in Cornwall. The weather forecast looked DIRE (cold and rainy every day, no sun). I almost said I didn't want to go.

The reality was it was fine. Not hot, but warm and sunny with clouds in the sky for most of the week. We had a few rainstorms but they mostly passed quickly and then the sun would pop back out again. We went to the beach, swam in the sea, had bbqs, day trips etc.

I actually wished I'd packed more summery clothes!

So try not to stress, hopefully it'll be the same for you - the south in general hasn't been as bad as the rest of the UK by the sounds of it.

Ah but it's better for you today @Stomacharmeleon 👍

Stomacharmeleon · 24/07/2023 21:10

@justasking111 it's been lovely. Even sat outside a pub and had our tea. Complete 360 :)

wheresmymojo · 24/07/2023 21:52

I'm in Hampshire and while it hasn't been a brilliant Summer (absolutely pissed it down and grey like Autumn today), it's been over 20 degrees most days since May.

GloriaSmud · 25/07/2023 06:26

It's waaaaay into the future when it comes to forecasting but looking at the GFS, there are early signs (perhaps from the middle of next week) of things settling down - hopefully not so much in the way of rain and warmer temperatures.

19991234c · 26/07/2023 11:15

sorry I didn’t actually mean to put the sensitive warning on the photo! 😂 I wouldn’t want the heatwave but 25-30 degrees would be nice!
