Well summers over

June was glorious,July a wash out pretty much. Last winter was so long and wet, still miserable into May, that we need some summer heat before we head into another long slog of rain, cold, mud, dark and wet washing. Or as MN would have it,crisp days, tobogganing, hot choc, and snuggles on the sofa.

Oakbeam · 23/07/2023 08:39

Not that anyone wants 40c heatwaves

I wouldn’t say no for a week or two. Maybe a month.

Trifal · 23/07/2023 08:40

KnottyKnitting · 23/07/2023 08:31

Well of course the weather is shit- the kids just broke up from school!

Expect summer to come back around ... Grin September 3rd!

This. Every, single, time.

Ambi · 23/07/2023 08:41

If we had 2 weeks in the sun planned this summer I wouldn't be as annoyed but DH had his holidays allocated in June when the DC were at school so no chance of a holiday this year. We had planned day trips and fun in the garden but this daily rain is just so rubbish and relentless.

Twyford · 23/07/2023 08:42

I'm SO happy that we're not getting the heatwave. I hate days and days of unrelenting heat.

BrutusMcDogface · 23/07/2023 08:42

We have a week in wales coming up, and if it rains all week it will be utterly miserable. Last year it was beautiful beach weather.

MMorales · 23/07/2023 08:42

Not sure how accurate that is.

Only 3 weeks ago there were headlines about the heatwave to end all heatwave heading our way.

I'm sure there'll be a few nice days in August. Maybe not a heatwave.

We don't want a heatwave, just some dry sunny weather would be nice.

lurchermummy · 23/07/2023 08:50

I love it, I hate hot weather especially when I've got to work. This is much easier to live with. Albeit probably not so good for farmers.

dottiedodah · 23/07/2023 08:52

We often have some nice days in September, and Its not even the start of August yet! Lets not write off the chance of a few nice days yet surely? Even a shower here or there means we can still go out .Beach weather maybe not ,but still a chance for walks in the forest or river whatever

Helpmepleaseimbusy · 23/07/2023 08:52

I love a heatwave

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 23/07/2023 08:53

I just want it to stop raining. How is it still raining?!

MagpiePi · 23/07/2023 08:55

The picture in the OP was greyed out with a ‘sensitive content’ warning for me!

I am now feeling profoundly depressed.

Sux2buthen · 23/07/2023 08:57

I think being annoyed with people that like cooler weather as seen in some of the comments is misdirected isn't it. It's not actually their fault the weathers not hot.

Ylvamoon · 23/07/2023 09:03

Even in the not so distant past, August has been rubbish weather wise.

floodywell · 23/07/2023 09:03

It's depressing beyond words. I would actually like a heatwave, but I'd settle for warmish and dry. I am so fucking sick of rain.

What's annoying is they all barge onto a thread disappointed about the weather to wax lyrical about how they love the shitty weather and don't like the heat. Every time without fail.

ThisIsACoolUserName · 23/07/2023 09:08

I've only worn a summer dress and a pair of shorts on 2 occasions this year in the UK. I've been in my jeans apart from that. It sucks 😕 It's rubbish for local businesses too - footfall is way down

Monsteramum · 23/07/2023 09:09

RudsyFarmer · 23/07/2023 08:36

Well that’s not true is it? You just dress the kids appropriately and get out there anyway.

Such an ignorant comment. My ds is ND and HATES the rain with a passion. Will scream and flap if it hits him in the face. Even NT children would struggle to keep it together with the howling wind and sideways rain that's been battering us for the last few days. I think people have an idealised view of happy children splashing in puddles with umbrellas and a few scattered showers. In Devon the weather has been almost biblical.

It’s a totally different thing though isn’t it. The weather becomes the activity when it’s warm. It’s perfectly easy to chuck on wet weather gear and go and splash in puddles for a bit but it happens out of desperation to stop being inside really. Wet weather needs some serious planning if you’re going to spend notable time out in it. (As does hot weather, but a nice bit of warm sunshine is easy.)

Dragonfly97 · 23/07/2023 09:13

I prefer this to the 40°c we had last year, it's more bearable. There's still time for warmer weather this year! September is more of a summer month these days, and a couple of years ago we had the hottest Halloween on record! Plenty of time for late summer days, but not too hot please!!

Yeah I'm outdoorsy and love hiking and cycling. I can do it in the rain of course, but it's shit slip-sliding about in sludge, with your waterproof clothing both failing in the rain and cooking you alive at the same time, perching on a wet rock to eat your sandwiches 😮‍💨

watersprites · 23/07/2023 09:14

It's defo a bit depressing but we've been very lucky with great summers in the south east last few yrs.

Handsnotwands · 23/07/2023 09:15

to The rain and gloom lovers, what do you do when the weather’s like this?

Genuine question. I’ve got 3 kids to entertain between working. We have minimal money to do much. Fairly rural location so trips to swimming pools / cinema are quite expensive. And actually outside those two I’m drawing a blank.

ideally we’d be camping, in the garden, paddling in the stream, riding bikes. What can we actually do to make this holiday seem like a nice time?

none of us enjoy trudging around dank fields in raincoats

TokyoSushi · 23/07/2023 09:16

I definitely like this better than the heatwave, but just a bit of brightness would be nice rather than unrelenting grey.

So pleased (and know we're very lucky) to have a sunshine holiday booked in a few weeks.
