It seems that Sundays are the day for storms this month, though I know there have been lots of other warnings.

As cooler (not not colder!) weather comes in from the west, heralding a more westerly, unsettled feel for a little while, thunderstorms may develop in the east Midlands through to NE England and Scotland. Torrential rain and other associated hazards are possible.

No storms forecast
so the theory that Sunday will be 30 and then Monday 24 doesn't sit right with me

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/06/2023 08:47

Why not Emma? A cooler airmass is sweeping in from the west. You might not get those exact temperatures but they are in the right ballpark.

For those in the warning area, it still looks about right for the location of thunderstorms. Not everyone will see one, but where they develop they have the potential to be severe. Scattered thunderstorms possible elsewhere too.

Thanks Kitten
I'm not questioning the science, it's the forecast is wrong all the time lately.

it's really hot already, I hope it does cool down.

I've currently sporting a neck fan and am running a desk fan on full too. It's so muggy, I can't bear it. Not a hint of a breeze and grey cloudy skies, but sooo warm. We're in the weather warning area here in Fife. Hoping we get a good storm to clear the air a bit. 🥵

I have an image of you wearing a Sheldon Cooper invention of something that rotates a mini fan around his face, suspended on some hat type thing.

😁 It's an idea, but I've just got to work with what I've got unfortunately. It's not a great look as it is.

Leicester's just outside the warning area but I'm so hoping we get something later on. My weather station's saying it's 28C already but there's a good (warm!) breeze.

Shellcollector · 25/06/2023 13:18

The winds suddenly picked up here. Lovely gusts of cooler air. It's bliss.

Conditions are becoming conducive for some severe storms this afternoon into this evening, with strong gusty winds, torrential rail, lightning, hail and perhaps one or two tornadoes. Do take good care if you are out and about and a storm approaches.

To indicate the general motion of any storms, I've shoved some arrows on.

I'd quite like a storm this afternoon to water my garden, damp down the pollen and cool it down a bit so I can go for a run this evening, but I'm probably asking a bit much.

Getting some nice cool gusts through the windows now, but I think I might have to put the lights on!

DementedPanda · 25/06/2023 15:09

It's going very grey and heavy in the North east. Can hear the thunder coming.

Bluegingerbread · 25/06/2023 15:14

Please tell me West Yorkshire will get some kind of storm today. We don't seem to be in the zone. This weather gives me migraines. It is getting breezy out there so I'm hoping.

GloriaSmud · 25/06/2023 15:16

Nothing doing here (Leicester), just warm, windy and puffy looking clouds. Looking at the direction it's all travelling, it's going to be close but think I'm going to miss out on thunderstorms today.

LlynTegid · 25/06/2023 15:18

After 1987 and the 'hurricane, what hurricane?', the Met Office are understandably cautious.

You would have expected it surely with Glastonbury on, though the other guarantee of rain (test cricket at Old Trafford) is not this weekend.

GloriaSmud · 25/06/2023 15:19

I think it's on its way, Bluegingerbread

JenniferBooth · 25/06/2023 15:22

I live in a Sanctuary sauna (one bedroom social housing flat) You wouldnt keep an animal in these conditions.

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 25/06/2023 15:22

Went Doncaster today and it was 30. Back in West Yorkshire now and wind has suddenly picked up. Hoping storms starts soon. It tried on way home but stopped.

Whinge · 25/06/2023 15:31

I'm really hoping for a storm here, but the forecast said 2pm, then 4pm and now it's just saying light rain. It's too hot and I can't be bothered to water my plants, so fingers crossed something happens. Grin

The England v Australia Test Match is on its 4th day at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. And what a great game it's been.

I'm in the NW and for the last half hour we've had thunder, some hail and torrential rain. Skies are very dark.
