Met office have yellow warnings out for wind and rain for Friday.

It'll be worth watching along the Thames for any flood warnings, I think the barriers might be needed.

Then unfortunately, the models are showing varying degrees of deluges for the south into early next week, with perhaps 60-100mm of cumulative rainfall in one or two unlucky spots if the models verify. Keep an eye out on the met office for further warnings.

sigh, obviously it's wind, not win.

I'm in one of the areas due lots of rain, I was hopeful I might get a prize for the most rain, kinda make up for the hassle of putting out the sand bags.

School run in the rain is becoming more frequent. Time to be more prepared for that.

Models are coming into agreement that some parts of the south could see more than 100mm of rain between now and Monday/Tuesday. To put that simplistically, it could be around a typical Octobers rainfall in just five days.

Saturday looks bloomin' awful - I'm wondering if a weather warning might come out for western bits of the UK for that day as well.

I think there will be some amber warnings by Saturday. It's beyond wet really isn't it.

I think as well as high spot totals in the SW, areas such as the Medway and the Thames should keep an eye out during high tide, simply because the wind will be coming from the NE through the worst of it.

Properties along the Severn also unfortunately needs to keep an eye on things. :(

I'm up to 40mm of rain so far with this event. Some local flooding. The met office have extended their amber warning to cover much of Wales. I've some concerns for those along the Severn. Thankfully Septembers dryness will have provided some space in the water catchments.

I know there isn't any interest here at the moment, but we do seem to be undergoing a fairly major rainfall event with another 30 or 40mm in the south into tomorrow I think, more in some places. Alex is doing a rather unusual loop the loop, keeping many of us in this deluge.

Drove to work (North Hampshire) this afternoon expecting some road flooding but it was fine. One bit of road had a large puddle that reduced road width so traffic slowed and took turns passing it.
So not as bad as I anticipated. Raining again tonight and some local river gauges are showing high levels ( www.gaugemap.co.uk ) so tomorrow morning may be a different situation.

Been a fair few road accidents in my area due to the weather.
It is horrible.
I really dislike rain, it just completely kills my mood.

I'm in Aberdeenshire. We had 30mm between 1100 and 2000h today. Hadn't emptied the gauge last night as wasn't well. Going to check again at about 11 and hope it doesn't overflow before we get up in the morning.

I feel very sorry for those in the Alpes-Maritimes. Looks like storm Alex has been utterly brutal 2020 really is a crock a shite.

River Dee at Ballater, Aberdeenshire. 1.82metres rising.
The river has breached the footpath according to a report from a local dog walker. This is not unusual for winter. Some sections of the river have defences but some were damaged in Dec 2015 when the river got to 3.5 metres and have since been rebuilt so if the river continues to rise it will be a test of the rebuilt defences.
If you live near a river, keep an eye on river level and take flood precautions... stay safe.

Thank you for starting this thread OYBBK. I was lying in bed last night listening to the rain and suddenly remembered that this forum is the best place to be during 'weather' . You called it right as usual, this event 87.2mm so far. Thank goodness for the previous dry period.

The amber warning has been extended to lunch time today, with heavy and persistent rain for much of the day in most of the south (far SW must be wondering what the fuss is about) and for much of Wales away from the NE of the country.
