We are expecting another deep low pressure system this weekend. It's not Storm Ellen because Spain named it first.

More later.

Cheers Kitten. I wondered why it was Jorge not Ellen, is it even near Spain? Confused

Can you knowledgable folk shed any light on whether I will be OK tomorrow, driving from Bath to Pembrokeshire between 5.30pm and 8.30pm? I'm a little anxious about driving in the dark and motorways at the best of times! Will that be right when it hits?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/02/2020 21:52

You will be driving through some heavy rain and gusty winds to around 40mph, so it won't be pleasant, but it won't be severe conditions at that point. There will be a fair bit of standing water though I'm afraid.

Jorge just tickles northern Spain. It shows how big these systems can be!

Thank you! Oh god. Driving at night, in the rain on an unlit motorway is makes me super anxious. Damn damn damn.

BiddyPop · 28/02/2020 09:03

The emergency preparedness committee has been activated here - not because of the expected severity of the storm but because the ground is already so sodden that major flooding is expected. (I don’t think it was activated in either Ciara or Dennis, but had been for the I-named storm last year for example that I’ve just forgotten the name of - there was the big I o the Monday that was a red and shutdown the country, followed by Brian that weekend which was only orange).

Drizzly mizzly weather in Dublin, 6 degrees in the car (5 warmer than all week) and lots of lines (ropes) of boats ashore howling in the wind. But not heavy rain yet, that’s expected later.

PJMasksGhekko · 28/02/2020 10:37

I'm sick of all this rain and wind now!!

megletthesecond · 28/02/2020 21:36

We're skipping parkrun tomorrow. I just can't do another wet run this weekend Sad. Even DS is happy to skip it, his trainers have barely dried out from cross country.

The met office have forecast a squall to cross in the early hours. That'll be another broken night.

TwentyViginti · 29/02/2020 07:30

Rain here atm - main storm hits E Mids around midday. Hail expected.

ListenLinda · 29/02/2020 08:12

Another weekend of rain and wind... my poor guttering.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/02/2020 10:24

Some heavy stuff coming across Ireland and Northern Ireland at present.
Some 'decent' showers elsewhere. Could be quite lively at times with strong gusts and perhaps some thunder and hail mixed in.

Linda we got a quote for replacing 9m of guttering (3x3m lengths) for our conservatory of £750 + vat! ShockShock

thenightsky · 29/02/2020 11:24

Its brightening up here in North Lincolnshire. I'm even considering getting the washing out!

Was lashing on the windows from 6am to 8am, so we didn't bother getting up for park run.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 29/02/2020 11:31

It's a beautiful sunny day in Dublin at the moment, windy though. I'm checking the west-facing windows every time I go into the kitchen so see if I can see it coming, but nothing yet.

FreezerBird · 29/02/2020 11:41

Very changeable here (west coast of Wales) was lovely first thing and we planned to get out before lunch as the last forecast I saw had things getting bad from about 1pm. Then it suddenly went dark and we took a right battering for a few minutes which left it looking like it had snowed - but it was hail.

It's calmed down a bit but we're not going anywhere.

I was woken by some weather in the night as well but not sure what time.

TheMemoryLingers · 29/02/2020 11:45

Nothing yet in my bit of Yorkshire, save the interminable damn rain.

pussycatinboots · 29/02/2020 12:28

I might have been a little hasty...it's now snowing! Grin

jalopy · 29/02/2020 12:51

Crazy hail storm going on here in South east.

Mummylin · 29/02/2020 14:23

Strange weather in Dorset, beautiful sunshine, but the wind is blowing a real gale.
