I know it will seem quite crackers to start this when the weekend has been so lovely, but we are starting to get some model consistency on GFS for the potential for snow Friday night into Saturday as a northerly plunge looks set to take place.

Primary risk areas are obviously for hillier parts of Scotland and also Wales, but higher ground in the south and south east including over dartmoor and down the east coast may also see some sleet or wet snow.

Heavy snow in High Peak, have been keeping an eye on it to pick the DCs up if it got bad, got immersed in a piece if work and looked up and it's suddenly started to get very bad, have sent DH out to get the DCs before we're stranded and doomed!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/01/2019 13:35

That's interesting Hairy (not for you probably!) the radar isn't really picking it up.

Another radar www.metcheck.com/WEATHER/precipitype.asp

Not doubting you for a second :) it just shows how localised it probably is.

Hairy where are you? I'm in High Peak but not the high bit! Snowing here but the ground is too wet for it to stick.

FreezerBird · 29/01/2019 13:40

Just rain with a bit of sleet here (west coast of Wales) but this is twenty minutes inland (and up a bit, to be fair!).

Snow watch!
ILikeyourHairyHands · 29/01/2019 13:41

I'm in Buxton, so pretty high! Am having trouble with my phoyos attaching.

vickylondon · 29/01/2019 13:42

ILikeyourHairyHands · 29/01/2019 13:43

Trying again!

ILikeyourHairyHands · 29/01/2019 13:44

It was wet snow all morning, it's been sticking for half an hour or so. Just had a text that the schools are closing.

Interesting how localised it is Bad.

WhirlwindHugs · 29/01/2019 13:45

Ooh, thanks for the map links.

A lovely man is just finishing installing our boiler, so looking good so far for snow to hold off until it's done!

I'm hopeful for a big dump of snow overnight :D

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/01/2019 13:46

Looking at those photos brrrr.....
Buxton is a bit prone to instant cut off isn't it.

Rain here in south yorkshire, and it doesn't really feel cold enough to properly snow.

Mind you I was out earlier and it felt really calm and quiet, you know that calm before the storm feeling so I could be wrong. Got dds parents evening later, really don't fancy going out in it. If we are to get a snow dump it needs to be soon so they cancel the bloody thing!

ILikeyourHairyHands · 29/01/2019 13:55

It is Bad, we're just under 1000 feet so it often comes down pretty fast and suddenly and access roads such as the cat and fiddle can be hair-raising at the best of times!

There's a great local weather guy who's usually pretty accurate here.

SillySallySingsSongs · 29/01/2019 14:04

Raining here in the Midlands. We were due snow, but can't see it sticking even if ig does.

GloriaSmud · 29/01/2019 14:16

Cloudy here (Leicester) where I'm expecting something (could be rain, might be snow) to start from about now onwards. I'm wondering if it'll go straight to snow as when I was out earlier, there were tiny snowflakes falling and the temperature's beginning to slowly drop as well.
Could be an interesting afternoon when it comes to weather-watching!

lubeybooby · 29/01/2019 14:28

heavy snow here but not settling Sad

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/01/2019 14:28

This might be useful for Peak district people.

I’m in Saudi Arabia, waiting to bring an aircraft home. The aircraft is in Heathrow at the moment - if it doesn’t get airborne tonight at about 10pm, there will be nothing for me to come home on and I awill be stuck here till Friday 😫😫. So here’s hoping is not too bad. Don’t mind if it closes in once I’ve got back though 😁.

Oddgirlout · 29/01/2019 14:54

Seems to be mixed messages for Kent. Some forecasts saying rain, others snow. It did just rain a bit but has stopped now. Can tell it’s still quite cold, the rain looks like it has fallen onto ice or is semi ice — if you know what I mean? Technical weather descriptions here...!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/01/2019 14:58

you should be ok backinthebox.

Thursday has just turned a bit apocalyptic on the met office app for my village as well...

prampushingdownthehighst · 29/01/2019 15:05

Please please no snow in Somerset this week!
I've rearranged a meeting 3 times now and Friday is my last opportunity.
Thank you so much for this thread OYBBK

LadyFlumpalot · 29/01/2019 15:12

@prampushingdownthehighst - I'm in Somerset! Dorset border side :)
