WhoKnows ~ my allotment and garden could do with some watering but nothing forecast for here (Leicester) at the moment. If only those storms forecast for the south next week could push a bit further north....

beenrumbled ~ here's hoping that it isn't too bad for her and there's plenty of resting in shady spots.

Metoffice Outlook for the next few weeks...

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:
Patchy rain may affect Scotland on Monday, and southwest England may see a thundery shower, mainly at first. Otherwise, the weather looks set to stay dry with locally hot sunshine.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 4 Jul 2018 to Friday 13 Jul 2018:
Widespread very warm sunshine is expected to continue on Wednesday across the country. It will feel hot in the south but less warm near northern coasts. Another warm night is expected too, particularly in urban areas. There is a possibility of thunderstorms developing in the southwest of England later on Wednesday, and these may spread across the south of England and south Wales more generally on Thursday. However, the rest of the UK will stay dry and sunny. It will tend to stay rather cloudy in the south over next weekend but northern sunshine will probably continue. During the following week very warm sunshine will return to most places, though northern parts may see more cloud, and perhaps even rain at times in the far north.

UK Outlook for Saturday 14 Jul 2018 to Saturday 28 Jul 2018:
The most likely scenario is that we will see a good deal of dry and settled weather across most parts of the UK in the second half of July with very warm or hot temperatures likely at times. There are some indications that in the north and west, more changeable conditions could bring cloudier skies and possibly some wet and windy weather at times. There may also be some interludes of more unsettled, cooler weather bringing outbreaks of rain or showers across the rest of the UK, however these will be short lived so dry and fine weather is likely for most of the time.

Gloria my garden us holding up as it's fairly shady and well established, just watering a few pots. However my allotment is parched, I'm up there every night for a good moan about the weather with all the other plotholders.

megletthesecond · 30/06/2018 08:14

My allotment is just about struggling through, it's like dust. It's so bad that even the dc's have bucked their ideas up and are happy to do a few watering can trips to save the potatoes.
At least the weeds aren't growing though.

My back garden is doing ok with left over washing up water being chucked over it.

This is when I start obsessing about a having a fancy grey water system installed in the house.

GloriaSmud · 30/06/2018 08:39

I'm watering the allotment every 2 or 3 days. Luckily it seems to be damp under the surface (if you can manage to dig down a bit!) so doesn't need a daily visit. But even DD1 (who has no interest in gardening usually!) has helped. Going for another watering session tonight....

WhoKnowsWhereTheW1neGoes · 30/06/2018 11:41

My allotment is dry as a bone as far down as you can dig. Through the whole of June we have had two lots of overnight drizzle and that's been it for rain, hardly any in May either.

At least it's fairly cool in our house at this time of day (terrace and the sun goes round one side so it's not on any windows till later). The DCs and I are just chilling indoors with patio doors open because we can't think of anywhere to go that's cool and shady.

ClashCityRocker · 30/06/2018 11:45

Anybody else feel like the forecast temperatures are low balled? It said 23 degrees here on my phone yesterday but felt much warmer, and the digital thermometer thingy in the local shop front had it as 29....

ClosdesMouches · 30/06/2018 12:32

That Weather Outlook site is giving temperatures too low and not actual.

I'm a few miles south east of Manchester. The maximum temperature here yesterday was 29 degrees, today it's already 26 degrees but that site forecast says 22!
I'm comfortable in temperatures in the low 20s, but 25 and above is too hot for me.
I wonder if it uses average temperatures?

ClashCityRocker · 30/06/2018 14:11

Accuweather is telling me it is 23 degrees. My digital thermometer in my house says 26.5 and my house is (thankfully) cooler than outside.

It certainly feels a lot hotter than 23 degrees outside! But it is a very still day so maybe that's contributing.

Just curious as to how they come up with the temperatures? I'd naively thought it would be live data but maybe not.

LighthouseSouth · 30/06/2018 15:30

Also think they made temps too low in my area.

LadyMary1918 · 30/06/2018 16:16

Just thought I'd make you all feel better
This is where I am

Have you seen the weather forecast for next week?!
LighthouseSouth · 30/06/2018 16:37

@LadyMary18

If you have a house with air con, I'll happily visit!

LadyMary1918 · 30/06/2018 16:51

@LighthouseSouth nope - windows and a big tree

LadyMary1918 · 30/06/2018 16:52

@LighthouseSouth but we love guests to wallow with us in the heat and share the misery

Bookridden · 30/06/2018 18:13

YY to the forecasters underestimating the temperatures. I think I was once told that the temperature forecast is the temperature in the shade.

GloriaSmud · 30/06/2018 18:59

Weather warning for thunderstorms for the SW and S Wales tomorrow.

Makinglists · 30/06/2018 19:28

Im in the south West near the devon/Cornwall Boarder and it feels like something is changing- Its clouded up, there is a breeze and it feels hotter and more oppresive - Its only a cool 26/27c. I have loved the Sun but want a day off now if only to remind myself how lovely Sun is. Please rain tomorrow (sorry Ds2 i know you have a tennis tournament tomorrow!😘)but Sun you can come back Monday.

Bumblealong1 · 30/06/2018 19:34

@ladymary1918
Are you really in those temperatures without air con?! 😱

LadyMary1918 · 30/06/2018 20:06

@Bumblealong1 alas 😳

I dream of 🌧⛈🌨❄️☃️☔️💨

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/06/2018 20:32

Bookridden that's true, if you measure temperature in direct sunlight then in part you are measuring the ability of the material to absorb heat.

HushabyeMountainGoat · 30/06/2018 20:37

Stupid question alert but considering that many places had a proper snowy summer, is there any link between that and this now proper hot dry summer? We do have rubbish years too where its just pretty mild all the way through.

Perihelion · 01/07/2018 00:25

Snowy winter? Well I don't know if there's a link, but I think it's the same sort of jet stream and pressure set up. But as it's summer, we get settled hot weather. Lots of easterlies and very little west wind bringing rain in....I could be wrong.

GloriaSmud · 01/07/2018 08:05

I was thinking that a few days ago, Perihelion, that it's a similar set up to what we've had over the winter, except this time with warm/hot weather instead of cold.

GloriaSmud · 01/07/2018 10:02

Latest on the moorland fires.

Hadn't realised that the weather warning issued yesterday, is the first ever 'thunderstorm warning' from the metoffice.
