Some early thoughts from TheWeatherOutlook here.

In the meantime, I would like it to Stop.Raining.Now There are a couple of rain weather warnings for today.

That's a really good website. I wish I'd seen it before doing ours.

GloriaSmud · 19/04/2018 10:21

I was surprised that our frog spawn survived the freeze/s (however many we had because I've lost count now!) as well. I don't know about whether the fountain helps with pond health ~ I suppose it helps a little but I really got it because I like fountains/the sound of running water.
The algae has sprung into life with the warm weather over the last few days but I don't want to pull it out as it might have some of the newly-hatched tadpoles in it as well!

That is a dangerous website Gloria Grin and a lovely pond.
The reason I spotted the newt was because I thought I should clean out the rotting leaves....then after googling and finding out that newts lay their eggs in the folds of leaves, I thought it best to leave it undisturbed.
Still warm and sunny.

GloriaSmud · 19/04/2018 12:33

It is, isn't it Perihelion! I've only ever had one newt in our pond ~ saw it just once, 4 years ago then never again!
Some temperature observations here.

Netweather and TheWeatherOutlook both mention a chance of thunderstorms this weekend.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/04/2018 13:08

I think the chance of some places seeing a thunderstorm is quite reasonable. I hope we get one Grin

SpringNowPlease2018 · 19/04/2018 13:16

Time to change my username Grin

any ideas what the weather is for the next month or so OBBYK and Gloria?

ooh what i wouldn't give for a garden. One day I will have one and I can't wait! I totally want a pond.

SpringNowPlease2018 · 19/04/2018 13:17

Gloria, love your pond.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/04/2018 14:16

Officially the warmest day in April since 1949. Phew!

Next week we go back to normal, cool and unsettled and that looks to last a while I'm afraid.

SpringNowPlease2018 · 19/04/2018 14:21

oh I thought it was disproportionate for April! 1949, wow.

GloriaSmud · 19/04/2018 14:22

The BBC gives us a chance of thunderstorms from 3pm onwards on Saturday but the metoffice are saying Sunday is more likely.

SpringNowPlease ~ Grin at name change! Ponds are lovely and encourage so much wildlife. I've just spotted a young frog which I think must somehow have changed over the winter and been living at the bottom of the pond.

Metoffice Outlook for the next 6-30 days~ probably can be summed up as 'changeable.'

UK Outlook for Tuesday 24 Apr 2018 to Thursday 3 May 2018:
Cloud and outbreaks of rain should clear the southeast on Tuesday. Most areas will then see sunny spells and blustery showers into Wednesday, these heaviest and most frequent in the north and west, with the strongest winds here. For the rest of the period it will be generally changeable. The best of any drier and brighter weather will be in the southeast, but with a chance of some rain at times even here. Temperatures overall will be around average, but it may be rather warm in the south and east at times. By the end of the month and into the start of May, confidence is very low, but it is more likely to continue staying changeable, with some drier and warmer spells at times.

UK Outlook for Friday 4 May 2018 to Friday 18 May 2018:
At the start of May changeable conditions are probable at first, with the southeast seeing the best of any drier, warmer weather, while the northwest will have more frequent spells of rain or showers. The forecast through the rest of this period is currently very uncertain, but through the first half of May it looks as though we could see a mixture of periods of more settled, fine and dry conditions interspersed with spells of showery and more changeable weather. Overall it will be wettest in the northwest, and driest in the southeast. Temperatures are likely to be around average, but with the risk of some cooler northerly winds at times.

I thought there might be some temperature records broken. My washing's dried in 2 hours Shock
I haven't heard a 'it's tooooo hot' yet but DD1 went outside earlier and declared, 'it's rather warm out.'

SpringNowPlease2018 · 19/04/2018 15:17

thank you Gloria, interesting to hear

I'm on gardening leave - with no garden.. - and I am going to go to see friends up North in May but I don't know when yet. It doesn't hugely matter, but tbh London is at it's worst in this weather and I would rather do some nice walking and forest visits etc than hang out here in this weather.

I did think about trying to create a balcony pond but it's too risky!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/04/2018 15:22

There is pretty good potential for some potent thunderstorms tomorrow evening.

Generally for much of England tomorrow, there is a thunderstorm risk, but as we go into the evening, the risk becomes quite high for the SE from probably Hampshire eastwards. Potential for lots of lightning and some small hail.

Wonder if we need a thunderstorm watch thread going Grin

GloriaSmud · 20/04/2018 20:36

Might be an idea OYBBK. We could keep it going throughout the summer and swop between the two threads ~ the 'summer 2018' one for the lovely hot weather and then the 'thunderstorm' one for when it all breaks down afterwards

thunderstorm watch thread with revised forecast :)

Gertrudethestag · 20/04/2018 20:41

Even in Cornwall? Because I'm camping tomorrow night Shock

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/04/2018 20:42

I think you will be ok in Cornwall Gertrude.

megletthesecond · 21/04/2018 07:53

yy gloria. Laundry turnaround is fast. By the time my eco loads have taken two hours the previous load has dried on the line.
Must do all the winter coats today, we can muddle through with fleeces and cagoules from now on, I hope.

GloriaSmud · 21/04/2018 08:22

'Tis the weather to do it, meglet. I've taken to washing slightly thicker things like the sofa and cushion covers, that would take aaaaaages to dry under 'normal' weather conditions for the time of year!

It's lovely here (Leicester) at the moment ~ 15.9C and the sun is out.

OP posts:
SpringNowPlease2018 · 21/04/2018 11:04

conflicting forecasts
generally looks like thunderstorms for about 8pm ish in London I think.

I was hoping for a late walk but don't want to get caught out.

drying days - flat dwellers can only dream of such things.

megletthesecond · 21/04/2018 14:21

Spitting in north Hampshire. Can't seem to decide what it wants to do.

GloriaSmud · 21/04/2018 15:39

Been raining here for 10 minutes or so but don't think we've got 'thunderstorm conditions' at the moment. Some showers showing up here on the netweather radar.

OP posts:
SpringNowPlease2018 · 21/04/2018 18:07

in London
it clouded over big time and I thought, I'll do my long walk tomorrow...and now it's sunny again.

confused!

GloriaSmud · 23/04/2018 11:08

Back to more 'April-like' weather this week. Tomorrow looks awful ~ heavy rain and chilly with the metoffice forecasting temperatures barely getting into double figures here (Leicester.) I'll have to start wearing my scarf indoors again! Sad

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/04/2018 12:50

By Friday gardeners in central areas should be keeping an eye out for ground frosts.
