I wish you could have joint thread starters! Gloria and I will be hosting this years snow watch and tag teaming with amateur weather forecasts. When reading them, please bear in mind that we are both amateurs with busy day to day lives, but we will do our best.

Please remember snow is notoriously difficult to forecast in this country as it often falls under marginal conditions.
When a forecast matters please do check with the Met Office first.

After a taste of winter already for some in the east, this mornings GFS model sticks with the winter weather theme we’ve been noticing for a few days for late Thurs 7th onwards, with a significant low pressure looking to bring in some cold and potentially rather snowy weather. Indeed, there is the potential for this to be accompanied by some very strong winds.

At the moment GFS plays around with the exact location of this low pressure, so it is too early to say where any snow may hit, but most places away from the far west seem to be in the potential firing line at the moment.

If some of the charts come off, the weather could be quite disruptive next weekend.

We had a very light dusting on the cars and roofs locally last night but nothing on the pavements - the kids are disgruntled!

I'm off to Manchester Christmas markets with my DD tomorrow - hopefully!

exLtEveDallas · 08/12/2017 11:48

Hi Kitten, coming down quite well here in Worcs, schools closed and everything! DD is outside building a snowman and I'm curled up on the sofa with the dog (who is unimpressed at the cold white stuff)

AFingerofFudge · 08/12/2017 11:48

I know I keep blathering on about it , birthday actually a bit worried about getting to our friends in Leicestershire on Sunday and Center Parcs at Sherwood on Monday. Thinking about trying to find a travelodge near CP on Sunday so at least we could hike in if necessary Grin

ajandjjmum · 08/12/2017 11:49

In South Staffs here and quite a bit of snow - still falling.

DH left this morning to visit his mother in Lincs, and I was due to drive up to join them tomorrow morning, together with an elderly Aunt. We planned to all return on Sunday morning.

DS and DD are joining us from London via rail tomorrow morning, and returning Sunday morning.

Be very grateful for any expert advice on how sensible this plan might be - should I just stay home and curl up with a book and the Christmas chocolates? Grin

AFingerofFudge · 08/12/2017 11:49

Sorry, don't know why the word Birthday appeared! Should say but!!

Humpf. We've had NOTHING in Bristol except some horrible icy rain a couple of hours ago Envy. We've now got blue sky and sunshine!

GloriaSmud · 08/12/2017 12:14

OYBBK I could feel your excitement there!

ajandjjmum I would do that (curl up with the Christmas chocolates!)

AFingerofFudge I was thinking of you and your journey this morning. Is there any chance of you travelling up tomorrow, stay overnight with your friends in Leicestershire tomorrow night and then travel to the Centre Parks area and stay in a travel lodge/ nearby hotel Sunday night?

K0729P · 08/12/2017 12:20

It's glorious sunshine up here in Falkirk. (Freezing but blue skies and sun nonetheless).

As grinchlike as I can be I only like the snow when I can stay inside. I hate driving it :(

ajandjjmum · 08/12/2017 12:33

4 whole minutes of excitement for you there Kitten! Thanks for the advice both - chocolates do seem more appealing than MIL. Shock Did I really say that?!!!

IHaveAToiletBrush · 08/12/2017 12:36

Lots of snow in Shropshire! Been falling since 5am and we have a good few inches now. Met Office has forecast up to 10 inches by Monday morning Grin

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 08/12/2017 13:17

We have a good couple of inches now. Still undecided about our drive to Aberdeen later. Know the roads will be clear but it’s going to feeze when it gets dark and the weather is just going to make a long journey even longer. Been dithering back and forth all day.

Plenty up in High Peak, bright blue skies at the mo' too - very festive!

AFingerofFudge · 08/12/2017 13:50

Gloria I was thinking about that but it's DS3's birthday tomorrow so we have plans!!
Might try and travel Sunday morning.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/12/2017 14:53

I’m extremely surprised there are no weather warnings out for Monday. Some extremely high rainfall totals possible for the south during Monday, with more very high winds across the south east.

More snow potential during the week too. I can’t keep up, it would be a full time job at present. The biggest watch point though still is the high snow fall totals in parts of the midlands, Wales etc, especially on Sunday.

Fascinatingly some in the online weather community think that Monday’s weather that Im currently forecasting as heavy rain could be heavy snow.

It's just started to snow lightly here in Liverpool, and my ds is asleep. He's 2 and never seen proper snow before. Gutted for him. Hopefully he will wake up soon.
Dcat is snoozing as well, he's not fussed.
Poor dh is at work, feel for him being out in this cold weather.

christmaspudding1 · 08/12/2017 15:49

ive just had a txt from my energy provider as im disable and on their priority list for severe weather on sunday,im Dorset never had a text before and didnt think we were having severe weather

GloriaSmud · 08/12/2017 16:12

Louise Lear on News24 earlier this afternoon mentioned the prospect of the cold weather lasting the rest of the month. Brrrr

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/12/2017 16:14

You may well see snow Pudding. You are in a yellow warning area.
