I wish you could have joint thread starters! Gloria and I will be hosting this years snow watch and tag teaming with amateur weather forecasts. When reading them, please bear in mind that we are both amateurs with busy day to day lives, but we will do our best.

Please remember snow is notoriously difficult to forecast in this country as it often falls under marginal conditions.
When a forecast matters please do check with the Met Office first.

After a taste of winter already for some in the east, this mornings GFS model sticks with the winter weather theme we’ve been noticing for a few days for late Thurs 7th onwards, with a significant low pressure looking to bring in some cold and potentially rather snowy weather. Indeed, there is the potential for this to be accompanied by some very strong winds.

At the moment GFS plays around with the exact location of this low pressure, so it is too early to say where any snow may hit, but most places away from the far west seem to be in the potential firing line at the moment.

If some of the charts come off, the weather could be quite disruptive next weekend.

We woke to a little sprinkle yesterday. A wee bit more this morning but not much. (Highlands )

FoodSchmood · 27/12/2017 09:08

Snowing in Hove and settling a little on the grass but not the roads/pavements. The wind is starting to get quite noisy and gusty too now. Netweather has it as sleet atm with it turning to proper snow over the next few hours as the wind from the north strengthens, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed it'll stick a little more in the garden as the kids have never seen the world all white with snow (let alone built snowmen or felt that wonderful crunch of snow underfoot).

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/12/2017 09:15

Morning all, hooray for snow!

If anyone suffered damage from overnight wild weather please can they let me know here or by pm. Thanks!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/12/2017 09:30

Well. After much excitement due to late night heavy snowfall here in Bristol.....it has pretty much all gone Sad. I had my yaktrax out and ready to go too.

GloriaSmud · 27/12/2017 11:28

'Orrible mushy wintry stuff here (Leicester) now. Snow's melting, it's overcast, a cold 2.3C, raining/occasionally sleety and windy. Just yuck.

SinceWhenDid · 27/12/2017 13:16

Snow showers all day, heavy right now. Met office says it is full sunshine with

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 27/12/2017 14:01

Currently -32 here!

SinceWhenDid · 27/12/2017 16:14

Where are you, moose?

GloriaSmud · 27/12/2017 16:25

SinceWhen ~ think from memory, Moose is somewhere over Canada way!

Not sure whether OYBBK has mentioned this already but there is now a weather warning for Friday, for snow. It sort of matches the netweather precipitation type chart.

Are you in Canada, Moose? We have family member in Saskatchewan who had been reported it was not "too bad", but now temps have plummeted to -30 or so over last few days...

ibbydibby · 27/12/2017 16:38

Vile weather here today (Norfolk). No settling snow but plenty of flurries of sleet, snow & hail, bitterly cold wind as well.

SinceWhenDid · 27/12/2017 16:48

Thought moose might be Canada 😄
Hope we do get that snow on Friday 😃

We have just enough for sledging.

SweetChickadee · 27/12/2017 20:01

Maudlinmaud · 28/12/2017 10:02

We had a little snow last night, everything is white and wintery looking, but alas not enough for snowman building or sledging.
Dd is most disappointed as santa brought her a new bum board.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/12/2017 11:29

amber warnings for the north for tomorrow.

With the notable exception of Manchester, as usual Hmm.
I see the snow shield is still going strong this winter...

Whywonttheyletmeusemyusername · 28/12/2017 11:32

Bright sunshine here today. ..London..

PoisonousSmurf · 28/12/2017 11:33

Even with lots of snow cover from Boxing Day night, we still didn't manage -1C even! Strange Winter this. Lots of marginal snow, but no real deep cold anywhere, well, apart from Scotland.
Will we ever have a Scandi High and the 'Beast from the East?'

Wrongornot · 28/12/2017 11:49

Just want it all to go away, so very pretty but the roads are horrible for driving Sad

We live between Edinburgh and Glasgow but are very high up >1000ft and seem to have our own climate!

An absolute nightmare wrong, but what amazing views !!

SinceWhenDid · 28/12/2017 16:07

Lovely and snowy here. Plenty for sledging. Going to be cold tonight!

notsomanky · 28/12/2017 17:30

Today has been a mix of hailstorms and sunshine.

The hail didn't melt and has frozen so it's treacherous under foot.

Bitterly cold and dry here now.
