I wish you could have joint thread starters! Gloria and I will be hosting this years snow watch and tag teaming with amateur weather forecasts. When reading them, please bear in mind that we are both amateurs with busy day to day lives, but we will do our best.

Please remember snow is notoriously difficult to forecast in this country as it often falls under marginal conditions.
When a forecast matters please do check with the Met Office first.

After a taste of winter already for some in the east, this mornings GFS model sticks with the winter weather theme we’ve been noticing for a few days for late Thurs 7th onwards, with a significant low pressure looking to bring in some cold and potentially rather snowy weather. Indeed, there is the potential for this to be accompanied by some very strong winds.

At the moment GFS plays around with the exact location of this low pressure, so it is too early to say where any snow may hit, but most places away from the far west seem to be in the potential firing line at the moment.

If some of the charts come off, the weather could be quite disruptive next weekend.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/12/2017 22:06

Yeah I know, was hoping for a snow day Grin oh well drizzle and slush it is

whojamaflip · 10/12/2017 22:11

Still snowing here but really fine almost like ice dust - its thawing like mad though 😕 regular thumps as the snow drops off the roof 😕

perhapstomorrow · 10/12/2017 22:18

Thanks maladicta. Will leave a bit earlier than I was planning just in case.

JillJ72 · 10/12/2017 22:49

perhaps - depending on where in Bucks you are going - we're in N Bucks and the local roads for our town were not the best at all today, and a lot of the schools are closed tomorrow,, so do allow yourselves plenty of time. Im sorry for your loss; I hope your journey both ways goes ok.

JillJ72 · 10/12/2017 22:50

I'm, not Im

GloriaSmud · 11/12/2017 06:09

@TheWoollybacks ~ apologies, I've only just seen your post (and thank you for the Flowers) I would think as long as your DD takes it slowly once she's left the station, she should be OK. If she's going through the middle of Leicester that should be fine but if she's taking side streets, she'll probably have to be a bit careful.

wheelwarrior · 11/12/2017 06:58

Snow day here in east herts for youngest as his special school closed as most are taxis /bus in

I am hoping it melts as heading for Stansted airport wednesday evening and ds wants school open Tuesday as going bowling

upperlimit · 11/12/2017 07:06

It's -8c here, Teesside. It's going to be a balmy -6c by school run time. We didn't get very much snow but my eldest is still hoping that the school doors may be frozen shut. Grin

GloriaSmud · 11/12/2017 07:14

Snow day for us as well and unbelievably for DDs, they're up already! DH normally has to drag them from their beds to get ready for school, how can they be up already? Xmas Hmm Xmas Grin

wheelwarrier tomorrow might be a bit of a question mark when it comes to schools as it's going to be really cold, temperatures barely making it above freezing, if at all. Wedensday should be the mildest day of the week before it all gets colder again towards the weekend.
And that's the way it stays ~ bit of a mild blip a few days before Christmas but that's it.

upperlimit there's always hope Xmas Grin

Se London is torrential rain! Service as normal thank goodness

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/12/2017 07:45

Its managing to rain at 1c here. Dew points are too high I think. It may turn to snow later but I’m very unsure about that.

What utterly disgusting weather.

Gloria mine have been up & about for a while too, daft sods. They weren't all that excited about the day off though. Dc1 is annoyed to be missing a Roman dress up day & dc2 is worried he'll forget the songs for his play. Dc3 is happy though. It has already been said we may be off tomorrow due to the temperatures & how icy it will be.

We've probably only had another 1.5-2cm over night although we've still got tiny flakes falling now.

GloriaSmud · 11/12/2017 08:04

Bernards ~ it's the fact that DDs were up earlier than their usual school get up time that got me! We're also going to spend the day waiting to see if the school's going to be open tomorrow.

There are a couple of live update/blog things going on at the moment ~ the BBC has one here and The Guardian one here.

BalthazarImpresario · 11/12/2017 08:12

Once again in my north Hampshire town the heavy snow that the met office is currently saying we have is just rain.
Oh well the tiny dusting will have to do.

Traveling to Reading later which did get some yesterday.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 11/12/2017 08:18

Yes exactly! They were up at 6:45 & on a normal Monday I have to go up at 7:20 to wake them. They called today at about 6 yesterday so I'm hoping they'll let us know at a similar time or earlier about tomorrow too.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/12/2017 08:26

This is the most disgusting weather possible where I am. Heavy rain, strong winds and 1c. Why did I make today the day for lots of running around?
ugh.

Oxford's vile this morning too - slush everywhere, raining, grey. DS's school is closed so he and DH are home in the warm making salt dough decorations while I'm paddle-sliding to work and seething with jealousy Xmas Envy

poppym12 · 11/12/2017 08:39

I was hoping it would have all gone here (eternal optimist) S.Staffs/Worcs. Nope. Looks like today is officially cancelled. One car has moved from the culdesac but everyone else is staying put.

Ancientmummyofwooooos · 11/12/2017 08:44

Edge of north yorkshire boarder- towards cleveland here, woke up to a smattering of snow and -9 temp- corking!!

Just had an updated weather warning for snow. Doesn’t seem cold enough out there tbh!

aracena · 11/12/2017 09:42

It is just about snowing here in East Sussex, having been raining so far all morning. It is a rather disappointing occasionally sleety mixture though and too wet to stick I think. Hope so anyway as although I love snow, I’m working this evening and don’t fancy a scary drive in the dark across icy rural roads to work! Very envious of those people with snow days further north!
