I wish you could have joint thread starters! Gloria and I will be hosting this years snow watch and tag teaming with amateur weather forecasts. When reading them, please bear in mind that we are both amateurs with busy day to day lives, but we will do our best.

Please remember snow is notoriously difficult to forecast in this country as it often falls under marginal conditions.
When a forecast matters please do check with the Met Office first.

After a taste of winter already for some in the east, this mornings GFS model sticks with the winter weather theme we’ve been noticing for a few days for late Thurs 7th onwards, with a significant low pressure looking to bring in some cold and potentially rather snowy weather. Indeed, there is the potential for this to be accompanied by some very strong winds.

At the moment GFS plays around with the exact location of this low pressure, so it is too early to say where any snow may hit, but most places away from the far west seem to be in the potential firing line at the moment.

If some of the charts come off, the weather could be quite disruptive next weekend.

Bit of snow here in SW London. It settled on the lawn and started looking very pretty but has stopped now. Sad Hope it’s back with a vengeance later.
Children, dogs and DH very excited. They went into the garden in their pjs!
Just heard DH tell the DCs that, if they’re good, Dadda will make it snow again Grin

Delatron · 10/12/2017 08:32

From what I can gather the warnings have been moved south from yesterday.

DecisionTree · 10/12/2017 08:34

Snow sends me into a tailspin
I panic
Afraid to drive in it
Afraid to walk in it
My heart was racing this morning when i saw it come down in east surrey
Add to this my panic that the teenager left his only coat at school on friday AND doesnt have suitable footwear for snow which i must force myself to go out with him today to try and buy some -
So happy to see it raining now though

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/12/2017 08:34

They have Delatron, they’ve moved to,reflect the changes in the models we saw last night, to bring Oxfordshire and other places into the amber area. updated warnings

rain where I am at present.

Worthing wet and windy right now

lamettarules · 10/12/2017 08:40

Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow ....

Anyone give a prediction on conditions Monday morning in SE - London down to SE coast ?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/12/2017 08:40

Iam, at the moment I’m not worried about a freeze in that area. It should stay overcast overnight. However, she should keep an eye on today’s weather in case there is more persistent snowfall. Unlikely, but still possible.

I’ve woken up to Narnia here in Shropshire . It’s perfectly quiet - no cars or sounds, as if the world has stopped.

dottybear · 10/12/2017 08:54

badkitten yeah, it's rubbish. How dare the snow cloud change its direction!!
Worst bit is the kids kept saying to me "it wont really snow Mummy you know" as I was buying sledges and getting all prepared. and I was smuggly saying "It will, you'll see" ha ha ! (should add the kids are tweens/teenagers so not little - I wouldn't have tempted fate if they were little and likely to be genuinely disappointed/gutted!!)
And my sister is in the Midlands and has just sent me a pic of her snow covered garden. Xmas Envy

realwoodlogs · 10/12/2017 08:57

Carlisle.

Nothing. No suggestion of snow either.

exLtEveDallas · 10/12/2017 08:57

Still coming down well here in Worcs. Two pics, one from 6am that shows the dogs footprints, one from just now that fills them in! We must have had 2-3 cm in the last 3 hours

Six inches worth in Herts and coming down thick and fast.

There will be an excellent snowman in the garden by mid afternoon!

Coming down thick and fast in Essex/East London borders.

Had to cancel family visit today but feeling rotten at the moment so happy to stay in all day. Just hope we can get DD to her ballet concert tonight so she can wear her new tutu!
