Snow watch 2017/18

I wish you could have joint thread starters! Gloria and I will be hosting this years snow watch and tag teaming with amateur weather forecasts. When reading them, please bear in mind that we are both amateurs with busy day to day lives, but we will do our best.

Please remember snow is notoriously difficult to forecast in this country as it often falls under marginal conditions.
When a forecast matters please do check with the Met Office first.

After a taste of winter already for some in the east, this mornings GFS model sticks with the winter weather theme we’ve been noticing for a few days for late Thurs 7th onwards, with a significant low pressure looking to bring in some cold and potentially rather snowy weather. Indeed, there is the potential for this to be accompanied by some very strong winds.

At the moment GFS plays around with the exact location of this low pressure, so it is too early to say where any snow may hit, but most places away from the far west seem to be in the potential firing line at the moment.

If some of the charts come off, the weather could be quite disruptive next weekend.

Where are you getting that forecast sluj? My phone app says 100 percent chance of snow but no more details!

Robux · 09/12/2017 22:01

Here in Liverpool no snow yet. I'm hoping netweather is accurate for tomorrow as it says 90% chance of snow. Fingers crossed!!!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/12/2017 22:01

apps I rate are the met office for accuracy, if not any sort of user friendliness and weatherpro (which uses gfs) for detail and good radar.

A mixture of Accuweather, BBC and the Met Office supermagicsmile. I'm liking the snowy ones best though.

TheresHensInTheSkirting · 09/12/2017 22:20

We’re in Staffordshire and appear to be right in the firing line! Accuweather, net weather and bbc all agree that we’ll get heavy snow all morning, further flurries all afternoon. Xmas Shock

Ilikesweetpeas · 09/12/2017 23:15

Where's mu snow gone? BBC Forecast had us for heavy snow tomorrow and now it's all gone! North west

PointlessUsername · 09/12/2017 23:24

I have had a weather warning of snow from the Met office just flash up on my phone.

NW London.

bookbook · 09/12/2017 23:24

ours is now not even sleet , all dry tomorrow on BBC, but netweather still has us down as 95% chance of snow . Just weird....

bookbook · 09/12/2017 23:24

oh, East Yorks!

RhinoGirl · 09/12/2017 23:26

West Yorkshire... all apps saying no snow. Met office still is but we’re on the border of the yellow warning line, so not likely to see any snowbI guess!

MsGameandWatching · 10/12/2017 00:30

What are the long term chances for London to get a decent snowfall this year?

JillJ72 · 10/12/2017 00:36

N Bucks - my barometer is flashing a warning for heavy snow. I'll know more in the morning!

Supermagicsmile · 10/12/2017 04:33

None where I am get, although the weather app the the BBC weather website says there should be heavy snow right now!

Supermagicsmile · 10/12/2017 04:33

Yet*

AbiBranning · 10/12/2017 04:46

Oooooo, we're just into the weather warning as in Berkshire, we might get snow. Just loads of rain right nowGrin but supposed to change later.

Supermagicsmile · 10/12/2017 05:06

I'd rather have the rain! 😂

daisychain01 · 10/12/2017 05:14

Wye Valley/Monmouthshire borders.
Yesterday was bitterly cold but very nice dry conditions. You could tell something was going to happen, it was eirily calm and sky became full of leaden clouds later in the day.

Just stuck my head out 5am and yup nice fall of snow overnight, skies looking full of snow, BBC weather app for this area shows more snow today. Worryingly, tomorrow temps not due to get above -2C which doesn't bode well for me getting to work. Not so much getting in, but getting back home because I have to come back up a very very step long draggy hill which goes in for a couple of miles (Plump Hill if anyone knows this area) - might have to wfh, just to be on the safe side.

nannynick · 10/12/2017 05:14

M40 Junction 9 looks like snow. Near Lemmington Spa.
Wunderground radar is showing snow heading towards Oxford.

Couple of hours and it maybe in Berkshire.

On Surrey/Berks border currently: rain

daisychain01 · 10/12/2017 05:17

I've had a Yellow Weather warning for snow and high winds on my BBC weather app for about a week, but the actual day of arrival fluctuated between Sat and Mon. As always it became more accurate as the week progressed.

ACertainRatio · 10/12/2017 05:30

We're Oxfordshire and have a blanket of snow this morning ⛄️ ⛄️

MooseyMoo · 10/12/2017 05:33

BabyOrSanta · 10/12/2017 05:41

WitchesHatRim · 10/12/2017 05:43

Snowing quite heavily here in West Midlands.

drinkswineoutofamug · 10/12/2017 05:50

Nothing yet in Cheshire east. Which I'm glad of as I have to walk to work

BabyOrSanta · 10/12/2017 05:50

Lincoln Xmas market's been cancelled tomorrow due to the threat of snow... I do hope they get some otherwise they'll look a bit silly...
