Bit of sleet this morning (Oxfordshire)

BiddyPop · 14/01/2016 09:47

It was only 1 degree this morning and I had to scrape the windscreen again (but again, only front windscreen and light enough frost - I'm often clearing a lot of ice from all windows!).

Dry and bright now, but bitterly cold. Dublin.

I'd love some proper snow here, I really want an excuse to catch up with the neighbours properly again and we always have a BBQ on the Green if it's snow covered.

Pipistrella · 14/01/2016 10:02

Not fair! Smile

Is it coming down this way Gloria?

MyMoneyIsAllSpent · 14/01/2016 10:19

I'm in the NE too and my town is virtually cut off at the moment and Police are saying stay at home. I can't afford a day off work!

BathshebaDarkstone · 14/01/2016 10:23

It's bloody freezing here in London. It actually started spitting earlier, it feels too cold for rain.

GloriaSmud · 14/01/2016 11:35

Our 6am snow finished pretty quickly and it's now a chilly 3.7C and fairly bright at the moment.

Some updated metoffice weather warnings for just about everything here and the metoffice have issued a Level 3 Cold Weather Alert.

Pipistrella ~ not sure where you are but the middle of the country (where I am) seems to have missed out for now. GFS hinting at possible snow Sunday night/Monday at the moment, when a band of rain bumps into the cold but the metoffice don't seem to be going for that at the moment.

Thank you very much Smile

We are further south. Looks on the map like Luton etc had quite a bit earlier.

Our forecast into next week is all very low, 'feels like' being -5 at times.

WhispersOfWickedness · 14/01/2016 14:16

Woo hoo, we have snow! Despite every weather app I can find telling me this is apparently sleet Hmm
I'm in the Lincolnshire Wolds.

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 14/01/2016 14:35

We are trying to plan what to do with a weekend away. Due to travel out Friday night (fairly late ie be off the road around 10:30pm) and due to travel back Sunday afternoon (due to be off the road for about 8:30pm assuming normal weather and road conditions. HAVE to be back sunday night for important appointments on monday morning. There has already been road closures due to conditions (flooding/ice) in the local area so feeling a little but Hmm and considering implications of cancelling the trip.

Can you offer any advise on the sense of this cross country travelling pretty please?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/01/2016 14:40

Apart from some cold rain and strong winds last night, where I am we have not had anything. One thing that stands out to me are gales that down the eastern side through to East Anglia are going to get tonight. some grim conditions.

Northern/Central Wales and bordering counties may see some snow tonight. As will central and southern parts of Scotland into tomorrow. Sleet and snow showers possible for many others, tomorrow, but scattered.

I think then, until Sunday evening it looks to stay pretty dry until more snow looks to move into Scotland Sunday night and into Monday.

Things may warm up next weekend, but a lot of uncertainty around then.

BishopBrennansArse · 14/01/2016 19:18

No snow for us Sad

megletthesecond · 14/01/2016 19:28

pass my house is flippin freezing too. I left the heating on 18 all day and even after 2hrs of 23 it's not quite toasty.

Definitely leaving the heating on tonight.

passivesonata · 14/01/2016 19:41

No snow in the west but the brass monkeys have been seen heading for Bristol airport.

GloriaSmud · 15/01/2016 06:47

Very frosty here ~ 0.1C at the moment. It'll be a mass scraping of car windows this morning!

Don't know where these have come from but the metoffice are forecasting 'light snow showers' for us, throughout Saturday night/into Sunday

OP posts:
BishopBrennansArse · 15/01/2016 09:52

Kitten and Gloria - have been checking out some weather forums and they seem excited by the wet air from the Atlantic meeting the cold air from the east over us beginning of next week.

How much would you agree with this, and also is it likely to hit the Sussex/Surrey border?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/01/2016 10:02

Really hard to tell! It does look like it could be less cold next week and there may be some frontal snow, but, its marginal and I dont think it would last long at all if it occurred.

GloriaSmud · 15/01/2016 10:40

BishopBrennans ~ I've seen the excitement too over on netweather. I think the models are struggling with the forecasting of the cold/snow at the moment and even at this short notice, they still are. This is reflected in the 'light snow showers' that was forecast for us tomorrow night seems to have disappeared now. It's all a bit Confused at the moment!

Anyone else got snow forecast tomorrow night/Sunday morning? We seem to have some (BBC says tomorrow night, met office says sunday morning). Only light but still Smile

Titsywoo · 15/01/2016 20:51

Sorry, I'm in East Surrey

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 15/01/2016 21:18

It is incredibly icy out there. Saw 2 cars in walls on the way home tonight and that is despite gritters having been out earlier. Thankfully the occupants seemed ok as they were warning traffic (on bends). But it is going to be worse as the temperature continues to drop over night, there is still sooo much water on the roads from the recent storms. :(

GloriaSmud · 16/01/2016 06:43

Titsywoo ~ there are updated warnings here and Leicester seems to be (just about) under one for snow. Don't think it'll be very much where we are (probably more over the Peak District/hills) but it's something! And it's being mentioned on the netweather forum, that Monday night seems to be of interest when it comes to snow as well

'Tis a chilly -3C here at the moment.

Warning for south east for snow tonight! Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/01/2016 09:15

interesting warning area for snow!

CatThiefKeith · 16/01/2016 10:27

FFS. Still no snow forecast for North Kent. Sad

BishopBrennansArse · 16/01/2016 11:54

We're just in that warning area. Hoping it happens...
