I'm starting this discussion because I was in danger of hijacking the Icelandic volcano thread. I started using the Mila Icelandic webcams to watch the eruption at Holoraun (the Bardabunga webcams), but lately I've seen the aurora borealis quite a few times on the other webcams, particularly the Thingvellir webcam www.livefromiceland.is/webcams/thingvellir/, although the lights can be seen sometimes on the Hekla and Jokulsarlon ones.

Another OP posted a link to the Hotel Ranga aurora cam, which is here: www.hotelranga.is/northern-lights/northern-light-webcam/

I am posting a couple of pics below for comparison to get you started. The first is a lovely aurora shot at Thingvellir from September, then a more blurry one from last night and a normal dark evening shot.

If you can find any other lovely aurora cams please post links (and pics) below. Happy hunting!

Porjus is like a marble!
And we don't often get anything on the top 2 Finland cameras. Kiruna has an interesting show tonight too.

GloriaSmud · 21/11/2014 20:05

Very nice ~ bit of red too!

Ooo yes, that's a very pretty marble!

LardyDa · 21/11/2014 20:25

Porjus is gorgeous Grin

GloriaSmud · 21/11/2014 20:58

I've found a Porjus webcam looking north (other one is the view west)

DustBunnyFarmer · 21/11/2014 22:11

Hi Lardy! Good to see a new face in here. I can't tell whether it's just a handful of us or whether we have lurkers.

I'm a serial namechanger Wink so not that new.

LardyDa · 21/11/2014 23:50

Ron Murray has put a live stream on his site, so can you see the lights in real time right now (Alaska), and also recorded ones from previous night.

Brilliant! DH and I had difficulty gauging the speed of changes, as so much of the available footage is time lapsed.

Wow!

Haha. Just screen grabbed the same shot Gloria, but you beat me to it.

OP posts:
GloriaSmud · 22/11/2014 20:19

Grin I'm sure the same screen shot will be posted twice eventually.

DustBunnyFarmer · 22/11/2014 20:21

Yeah, you are probably right. I'm also thinking it's a good move to include an HTML link to the relevant camera like you just did above, in case any newbies stray in here & want to jump straight the action. If we make it to a second thread, we'll have to include all the new links in the header.

OP posts:
GloriaSmud · 22/11/2014 20:27

'Throwing in' the odd link reminder does save time rather than having to go through long threads!
It's amazing how the Aurora can look beautiful with both bright green bands of colour (1st picture posted) and as with this one ~ not so much colour but the stars shining behind.

I like comparing the Abisko fisheye on the EU site and then the Abisko sky station. Another beauty here - I particularly like how dark the night sky is behind & how bright the stars.
