Very very early days but the latest gfs has a little low pressure that might cause some autumnal gales. Will keep you posted.

Spaniel - mine isn't in the grass/garden as such, it's on a deck in a 2 or 3 foot metal holder (which is welded to the balcony railing), so I hope it's OK because it's a complete mission to get it out on my own (being only 5ft) because of the metal holder I can't put it down so you have to lift it out 'open', at least 3 foot off of the ground... stupid thing! Though, I'm glad to be going out now as the squeaking is driving me batshit Halloween Grin

SpanielofDoom · 21/10/2014 13:50

chilling Mine was in the grass and obviously not in deep enough. It almost did a javelin impression through the patio doors and scared me to death.
Yours sounds like it should withstand the gale. Halloween Grin

Looking at the radar wondering if some of the showers will become hail as they go through Lincolnshire this afternoon.

It certainly did hail in Lincoln, We had quite a storm, It has broken a huge willow tree in my garden quite badly.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/10/2014 14:04

If you are from Burton on Trent please can you take a look at this thread

Poor willow tree - I hope it is ok.
North Norfolk may well be catching some nasty hail squalls too.

Sodding trampoline has taken off AGAIN - totally not destined to be a trampoline owner.

ChillingGrinBloodLover · 21/10/2014 14:43

For the love of all thing windy.

The tree tops are bending and touching their own roots, the wirly gig is spinning like a helicopter's propellers... and it sounds like the house might end up in Oz!

... and I'm central south east, no where near the coast.

lumpyparcel · 21/10/2014 14:52

Checking in from Lincolnshire, been windy and rainy in my area from about 7am. There's been two bad crashes today but not 100% sure they're related to the weather.

My downstairs only has half double glazed so I've retreated to my bedroom. Can hear some poor bins having a trip down the street.

ouryve · 21/10/2014 14:56

I've just realised something odd. Was out in my back yard, 20 minutes or so ago, and it was well blowy. Just now looking out of my front window and there's a few clouds in the sky and they're barely moving. Very surreal.

ouryve · 21/10/2014 14:56

And I know it's not died down, because the jackdaws are all going bonkers in it.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/10/2014 14:58

Waltzing - trampolines are infamous! ouryve - its coming in the form of squalls - like packets of rough weather.

OP posts:
SpanielofDoom · 21/10/2014 15:06

In that case, what we're experiencing here is definitely "squalls". I never really understood that word until now, so thank you kitten.

Going through a quiet spell atm, after it being horrendous 30 minutes ago.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/10/2014 15:09

You are welcome :)

awful news about a lady in London, plus some disruption.

Its not a very powerful storm, but it shows what happens when trees are still in leaf.

That makes sense, OYBBK. Had to hold tightly onto the gate to let the boys through, yet is was quite pleasant, down the hill, nearer to the school.

We avoided the side of the road with lots of old trees. We've had a narrow miss with them, before.

Sulawesii · 21/10/2014 16:20

Crazy just now in the Midlands for about 10 mins, all clear and calm but for how long?

Love a bit of weather!

Sandi - that must have given you quite a shock. Poor people who lost it. I'd be very interested in knowing how far it travelled.

JillJ72 · 21/10/2014 21:24

Seemed to me that East Midlands trains were being more cautious with their speed today, and coming back to N Bucks from Leics, the train kept stopping... "We apologise for the delays; the driver is stopping and leaving his cab to clear debris from the line before continuing."

I have one of these www.clasohlson.com/uk/Emergency-Light-Torch/18-2876 as my emergency light - it glows blue so you can see it and turns on when you take it out of its holder or if the power goes off - really useful. I'm planning to get another one, so I can have one upstairs and one down.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/10/2014 21:57

Poor driver Jill!

That's rather good RB :)

BlackeyedSusan · 21/10/2014 23:54

there were reports of trees down on our local radio station here in the w mids we had several gusty showers that were moving through rapidly. the worst of the weather really started about 1pm and kept going until after five.

yesterday there was a long pile of leaves in fromt of the garages, today they are all gone and have relocated, probably somewhere out in the north sea.

digerd · 22/10/2014 07:52

S. Herts.
Just checked my lean to which faces north but somewhat protected by neighbours detached side. All still intact.
My small conifer in a large pot at end of N & E facing driveway had tipped over being held by a flexi tie to an unused fence post which I did in preparation for the storm. But did fall onto my driveway and not the public pavement which was the intention.
Trouble is I can't get it back up as too heavy.

Igneococcus · 22/10/2014 08:44

Northern Argyll, right at the coast, we lost one roof tile, took a chunk out from the guttering on the way down. On the bright side, my lawn which was covered in leaves before the storm looks like someone has gone through with one of those leaf blowers and cleared it up.
I went for a walk along the coastal path close to my house after the storm had peaked and some gusts stopped me in my tracks, it was fun.
Calm, grey, drizzly and boring now.
