Hi all,

We have been following the news and several threads on Mumsnet about the flooding in Somerset and the South West and we wanted to point you in the direction of this thread if you'd like to help.

We are thinking of pulling together a gallery of flood images from where you are to help to raise awareness of what so many are going through at the moment.

Please do post images of flooding near you below (you will see you can now post images in the Weather topic)

Thanks all, and we hope those affected are safe and well.

Didn't work, sorry.

JammyTodger · 13/02/2014 15:02

Oh, my first post didn't work. This is Worcester, and we are sort of stranded on the other side of the river to the city centre. There is, however, a shuttle bus which whooshes through the flooded New Road and manages to get everyone to and from work/school. Photos really do not really show the immense spectacle of it all. It is just water as far as the eye can see.

I have lost the taste for taking any more pictures - its not interesting or dramatic anymore, it's just sad.

^Exactly this. :(

Bottom of my garden. A tree on the other side of our fence (on council land) went over in a storm leaving a huge trench along the garden which quickly filed with water. Council have dumped a load of soil in it so they don't get sued for my kids falling in (the tree in question was supposed to have been removed long ago so shouldn't have still been there to fall) but can't get the roots removed and therefore our fence restored till the ground hardens and a job can get in. Just thankful the tree went that way as if it had fallen the other way it woulda been in the kids bedroom. They've assured us the remaining 2 very tall trees are down to be removed asap.

Dillydollydaydream · 13/02/2014 18:14

alicia that is awful :(

HOLIDAYBEACH · 13/02/2014 18:45

I'd recommend getting some Jeyes Fluid in for the clean up afterwards - it will kill all the germs etc... and is great for disinfecting everywhere. I use it all the time for cleaning outside.

mammamic · 13/02/2014 19:43

This is our local 'meadows'. Underwater and now indistinguishable from the river. The fields at the back also flooded - approx 800 metres length

On a positive note, flooding is being out community spirit. 56 tons of sand was bagged today by people from the community (near and far) in Chertsey. I am not sure how much help sand bags really are but they may slow the water down a bit.

mrscog · 13/02/2014 21:25

Waving to all the Worcester people! The need for a northern crossing and completing the ring road has never been so clear! Oh well we can but wish. Hoping the dry weather we've had today is enough to help it not get any worse with tomorrow's rain.

droitwichmummy · 13/02/2014 22:56

Thank you everyone! Holt Fleet looks like the best option - it is our usual route anyway. She just needs to get along the Teme valley but that doesn't look too bad.

NorksAreMessy · 14/02/2014 08:38

Just coming on to say hello to all my fellow Worcester Soggies.

DS was sent home from school on Wednesday lunchtime as they decided that they couldn't run any 'meaningful' games.
Ummm, no, you wouldn't really, unless it was water polo or synchronised swimming. You could, in theory swim from the Cathedral to MacDonalds in St Johns, I suppose.

Please stay safe today. I think there is more on the way. :(

Sparklingbrook · 14/02/2014 08:59

Hi Norks, it's grim isn't it? Sad

Just started raining again-according to forecast it will keep it up until 11pm. Sad

JammyTodger · 14/02/2014 09:46

Just had a wander down to the river and it's definitely gone down a bit, for now anyway. Won't be having my Valentine's night cocktails in the Rectifying House this year though as it's still well under water :(

JammyTodger · 14/02/2014 09:48

MrsBucketxx · 14/02/2014 13:27

MrsBucketxx · 14/02/2014 13:30

I will be looking out for you on Sunday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. You are my good luck charm :)

flootshoot · 14/02/2014 16:19

Slightly more upbeat - a snapshot of the flood relief centre in Egham, Surrey where I spent a couple of hours helping this morning. The generosity of people is quite staggering.

norks We shall do our very best to come and see you. Half term activities are slightly limited if we're stuck over this side of the river, and all of our NCT buddies are over the other side too.

sisterofmercy · 14/02/2014 17:47

Good for you for helping, flootshoot, and anyone else who is currently helping out those who are suffering.

It's a terrible situation but there are some superb photos on here. I wish you didn't have to take them though.

LeBearPolar · 14/02/2014 17:48

Phew! Made it home and now have the respite of half-term. No more 6.30 am departures for work for a week!
