lump we're doing the same, driving to Hunstanton today but are delaying til lunchtime when the weather's passed. I'm going to call the park we're going to before hand to check the power status though.

blankslate · 28/10/2013 10:29

Brighton and Hove buses are now running along the coast road again. Also accepting train tickets. Council bin/recycling collections are happening although there may be some delays.

Weather wise its a lovely sunny day, blustery with a few stronger gusts. Going to get some washing hung out to dry.

ChubbyKitty · 28/10/2013 10:53

Lagoon I'm with you on this one! Certain people on my fb have coloured my views of them.

Complete lack of respect for the poor people who died and their loved ones. Yes we didn't suffer like we thought we would, doesn't mean nothing happened and it should all be minimised.

And as you say, they'd be the first to moan that they hadn't prepared if something did happen.

LtAllHallowsEve · 28/10/2013 10:55

Well we had to sprint back from the beach because it SUDDENLY started chucking it down again. The wind isn't as bad but the rain is bloody biblical. I'm expecting Noah any second...

SorrelForbes · 28/10/2013 11:25

The local paper is reporting trees uprooted but it really doesn't sound as if it turned out as bad as expected.

I was up much of the night and the rain didn't sound particularly loud or strong (not the 80 mph reported in the press anyway). It's wet and windy here most of the time so perhaps there wasn't much difference Grin

WallaceWindsock · 28/10/2013 11:46

Was calm and sunny here earlier, feels like the wind is picking up again now and not so sunny (N. Cambs). There aren't any gusty bits coming back or anything are there? Thought it had all passed over this way now and was heading out to Denmark? Nothing scary just a sudden definite increase in gustyness?

WhirlyByrd · 28/10/2013 11:50

Marking my place. OYBBK you've done a fab job - thank you for keeping us all up to date :-)

oricella · 28/10/2013 11:51

Storm is now battering the Netherlands; Beaufort 12 on some of the islands, trams and trains around Amsterdam all stopped. And the Newcastle to ijmuiden ferry is still bobbing around in the sea as it is too stormy to dock. Glad I'm not on board!

bigwellyfucker · 28/10/2013 11:57

We had a very interesting hour while I was doing the nursery/work run - I suggested to DH that his bicycle wasn't the best option and he accepted a lift. Lots of strong gusts and a number of branches in the road withtorrentialrain and car had quite a few twiggy branches and leaves land on it.

Thoughts are with those families who have lost relatives in the storm.

DameDeepRedBetty · 28/10/2013 11:58

Quick placemark for later.

GigiDarcy · 28/10/2013 12:34

Norfolk/Suffolk border-sunny here now, bit of wind but nothing like it was earlier.

musicposy · 28/10/2013 12:55

Pretty quiet here now in Chichester.

DH cycled to Chichester the 4 miles at 5am. Wind was howling. Coach was running as normal and he decided he didn't want me driving there and back with possible falling trees. He got there without event and texted from Gatwick to say all fine, though I don't know how the planes are doing.

Took DD1 to work in well-known-much-maligned-on-mumsnet fast food restaurant this morning Wink and it was pretty quiet there compared to usual, as were the roads. A few branches here and there but mostly small stuff.

By the sounds of it some other parts of the country got it worse than us.

mignonnette · 28/10/2013 13:09

Waving to the Suffollk people -Gigi hi there.,

Apparently several trees are down along the main road into Sudbury from Long Melford near the water meadows. A double decker bus was blown over near Hadleigh. Roads damaged and roof damage w/ falling slates a risk.

clam · 28/10/2013 13:11

Well, I thought it was all done and dusted, so took the dog out for a walk.
Am only just drying out and untangling bits of leaf from my hair now!

ILiveInAPineappleCoveredInSnow · 28/10/2013 13:30

Suffolk here! Calmed down a lot now but still not got power (since 7.45am!). Bus was blown into a field round the corner so must have been bad. Not planning on going out today, glad my mobile internet now working :-)

Hope everyone has stayed safe overnight, and not affected by those injured and killed by the storm.

quirrelquarrel · 28/10/2013 13:32

My god I'm glad I'm not on that ferry! imagine the seasickness, just waiting endlessly for things to die down.....aargh.

Water went out for a bit. It's only been windy here. A few branches lying around.

OhAntiChristFENTON · 28/10/2013 14:03

I've put some pics up on this thread , - still a choppy sea today although not as bad as yesterday pm, - I would have loved to have seen it at 5am today - although wouldn't really have wanted to actually be there - I'm not that brave.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/10/2013 14:03

talulah I will come to that as fast as I can :) I've had a lot of extra real life work dealing with the aftermath of the storm.

CinnamonPorridge · 28/10/2013 14:04

I've counted 4 trees down (one in park, one crashed into front garden missing the house and 2 into road).
No more damage to our house apart from leaking roof. And it's raining heavily again Sad

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/10/2013 14:04

There are still squally showers expected so don't be surprised if a few more trees that were just hanging on come down.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/10/2013 14:07

sorrel - not everywhere was expecting to get 80mph but there were inland gusts over that level despite the storm being a little weaker when it hit us than expected.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/10/2013 14:20

Very tragically there may be a couple of more deaths on our side of the north sea bbc news
:(

Mirage · 28/10/2013 14:27

Our brook has burst it's banks and is pouring across the road, and the other road out is flooded half way across.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/10/2013 14:56

The flooding has been a real issue for some areas.

digerd · 28/10/2013 14:59

Made the dog walk about 9am as storm lasted only an hour and the sun came out. Although it had been windy and rainy all night. No power cut, thank goodness.
Had several short sharp showers later though.
