OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/10/2013 08:48

aha! new thread is here!
I so need a generator. My stupid UPS couldnt cope and even my mobile internet service went down.

That was slightly over exciting. All I can say is its a good job I had my torches ready and the camping stove out.

Only been for a brief walk, I'm going to head out late morning and do a proper recce but some big trees down. Loads of fences of course!

outtolunchagain · 28/10/2013 08:48

Very windy here in Suffolk, ds2 and I just looking out of his window and there is a very tall silver birch which we can see from our garden , it's the tallest tree around and we were just commenting that because of its very sparse branches it looked like a ragdoll....then it disappeared Hmm.Heart broken it is such a beautifully tree , I hope it has not fallen on anything , it is on the edge of a huge garden but it is a very tall tree.

fisharefriendsnotfoood · 28/10/2013 08:48

my fence has come down and a wooden thingy in the garden.

Catmint · 28/10/2013 08:48

I'm also in Derbyshire, I thought it was reaching us a bit later.

RemindMeWhatSleepIs · 28/10/2013 08:49

Welcome back OYBBK we missed you!

Helpyourself · 28/10/2013 08:50

Very bright and the wind is dying down. Lots of branches on the roads and some fence and builder's panels down in suburban south London. Underground and buses running but Overland and tube where it goes outside disrupted. I think they're waiting until 9 before they 'call' the trains.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/10/2013 08:50

Worst should be almost over for East Anglia/Kent. I need to have a look at what happened last night. I last checked at 4am and could see that it was looking like it could get rather nasty. Then it did.

fuzzypicklehead · 28/10/2013 08:50

The girls just ran in all excited to say "Mum, come quick! Look the neighbors tree is down!"

Yep. A 4-foot, wispy excuse for a shrubbery. Hmm Drama queens

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/10/2013 08:51

catmint - youll be fine.

I missed you all too. How unfair was it that I would get cut off?!

GigiDarcy · 28/10/2013 08:51

Norfolk/Suffolk border, wind and rain really picked up. We have massive trees in the garden behind us, just watching them bend in the wind. Saw a UFO fly straight across garden, one side to other and disappeared! Looked like an item of clothing. Bin collection now taking place, want to get wheelie bins back in their shelter before they take off. It is really coming down here.

cloudskitchen · 28/10/2013 08:53

Welcome back Kitten. Did someone say yesterday more stormy weather to follow later in week?

RustyBear · 28/10/2013 08:56

I'm surprised we didn't lose power here too, it usually goes off here at the drop of a hat, let alone a tree.

I was up on and off watching the trees last night, especially the one in the corner of next door's garden, which always seems about to come down in a storm, but somehow never does. The massive leylandii on the other side are still there too, unfortunately. There was a beautiful dawn, all gold under the dark clouds. It was quite calm and sunny when I got up properly, but it's clouded over now and looks as if it might rain again, so I think I'll postpone my investigation till later.

OlyRoller · 28/10/2013 08:56

I'm in Amsterdam and the wind is really starting to pick up. We are code red and the storm is supposed to arrive around noon.

lagoonhaze · 28/10/2013 08:56

All my friends are laughing a lack of storms and my preparations.....

Trills · 28/10/2013 08:57

Where/who is the MNer on the first gale thread who was on the Isle of Wight and whose dad had told her to not stay in her house on the West coast?

lagoonhaze · 28/10/2013 08:57

Welcome back oybbk

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/10/2013 08:57

clouds I'll get to that later today :) got a lot of post storm analysis to sort out plus I'd like to go for a walk a bit later and see what came down.

waikikamookau · 28/10/2013 08:57

oh and I saw someone's broken trampoline Sad upturned with the fence posting going through the middle

ziggiestardust · 28/10/2013 08:58

It seemed to pass us by here!

Was someone saying earlier that there's another one on its way?

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance · 28/10/2013 08:58

The wind seems to have completely missed Cardiff but according to the BBC we've had 1.7 inches of rain.

Sleepingbunnies · 28/10/2013 08:58

No work for me! Tree on the tracks!!

ThePortlyPinUp · 28/10/2013 09:01

Nothing much happening here in west Norfolk.

keepmoving · 28/10/2013 09:06

Meandmyspoon - Reading Bridge is closed 3 trees down and Caversham is therefore grid locked. Not sure if this is of any help to your husband, he may well have already set off...

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme · 28/10/2013 09:13

Very windy here in north Suffolk.

Dh managed to get to work fine, wasn't windy much then but bloody picking up now.

Am meant to be taking the dc's out mid morning. Debating now.

BoreOfWhabylon · 28/10/2013 09:14

S. Glos checking in!

Think the worst of it missed us. Bit blowy and sunshine/showers at the moment.
