Looking potentially very serious indeed for the eastern seaboard of the US, perhaps including NYC if some models are correct. The storm will probably be extra tropical but nevertheless if it interacts with a trough modelled off the east coast that could bring down arctic air then the result could be approaching catastrophic, with utterly torrential rain, severe blizzards, hurricane force winds and severe storm surges all being possible.

I think people will be getting very worried about this. Mon tues weds are the days to be watching. Lets hope the storm turns east away from the us coast.

Wall Street might be closed on Monday - that could be an interesting time for the Worlds financial markets. All the trading will happen in London long into the night - problem is the banking system needs US Dollars.

Kitten, does that mean we are likely to get referred 'backlash' weather in a week's time or so?

Much of my family live in Boston. They have been hearing about this storm for a week. Two of my brothers are State Policeman, they have added extra shifts, and had some time off canceled already.

Not really jalopy in that the storm turns north west. but a seperate low pressure system does look to perhaps cause us some trouble towards the end of the week, with lots of rain and fairly strong winds particularly for more northern areas showing on GFS.

Vixcyn, would be really interested in any thoughts and updates you get from them.

I surely will. Both brothers are scheduled to work Monday and Tuesday, so will find out what is going on.

Dsis and family are renting a beach house just south of Charleston at the moment. They've had the decking steps washed away this morning and bil was interviewed on the news. Not sure whether they're evacuating or not - don't think the main hub is close to shore that far south - will be trouble further north I think.

Gosh, I do feel for them. I was in the area for work this time last year - there had just been an unseasonal snowstorm and masses of people lost power for days. The trees were still in leaf so the weight of snow brought many of them crashing down.

Well, they all seem to have access to FaceBook at the moment!

That's right mooncup, and they had hurricane Irene in aug 2011.
There's already an impact with some parts of NYC being ordered to evacuate tomorrow and it looks like they will shut the transportation system down.

google cancel android event will upset quite a few manufacturers I think.

I'll be watching it closely as have friends in NYC. Hope it won't be a repeat of the 1991 storm.

It's a week after and yes it could have some large ramifications is there is lots of damage or prolonged power cuts. Those NE states are traditionally democrat.

Winnybella, me too, I've been reading up on it though the set up is rather different, there are a few similarities.

Clam - I'm in Charleston (inland though). It's rainy and windy, but no calls for evacuation.

Gov. Patrick issued a state of emergency in Massachusetts. Looks like many people will get to stay home on Monday. My brothers will be on call round the clock starting tomorrow..

I read elsewhere that it is not so much the wind that is going to do the damage but a possibility of 10 inches of rain hitting central New York City in one day.

And the storm surge morebeta. The wind isn't going to help but it's not the worst factor.
