because of that choking thread i have just been advising people to give small chunks of food so they are less of a choking hazard and emphasising that they must have all the signs of being ready to wean before attempting it.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 07/10/2008 17:05

Okay, you know how babies push up on their feet at couple of months.

Parent holds baby, gets them to push up with their feet on their hands, and then lets go of te rest of their body (imagine someone balancing a basketball on their fingertip).

That's it.

FlabbyTumSquashyBum · 07/10/2008 17:11

I'd like to think you're lying...but unfortunately I do believe you're telling the truth. Makes me sad for the baby.

TinkerBellesMum · 07/10/2008 17:15

I've just found this thread and reading it from the start. I just had to point out even NetMums is hot on people giving bad advice re early weaning and they have some stickies clearly explaining why it's a bad thing.

I'm upset the links have gone, I feel like I've missed out!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 07/10/2008 17:16

Oh dont worry - there are plenty of threads still on Bounty that illustrate the point

yes, tis very true. Same baby has had a 'biscuit' in his evening milk from 8 weeks old.

FlabbyTumSquashyBum · 07/10/2008 17:24

On the other site I visit (we all know it's Bounty!), I've always had a problem with people wanting to rush to the next stage. It starts at the very beginning - wanting to get to 12 weeks pg. That's fine, I was the same and was very anxious until that first scan.

Then, by 30 weeks (I kid you not!) the 'anyone know how to induce labour' threads started. Lots of people actually offered ideas on how to do it, and, as with the weaning threads, anyone who dared to mention the (quite obvious) risks were told that they had no idea how terrible it was having spd, or being tired, or being so big blah blah, and 'it's so unfair for you to scaremonger'

Now the babies are here and everyone seems to want them to be eating 3 meals a day, sleeping through the night and saying their first words. And some obviously think their babies can stand at 12 weeks.

What's the rush?

SpookyMadMummy · 07/10/2008 17:59

I cannot understand why they want their babies to come early and weaned early!! My dd's were weaned at 5 months. At the time guidelines were suggesting 4 months, but I held off till 5. I wanted them to have the nourishment from milk and be truly ready for food.
With this Dc I plan to b/f for as long as I can and BLW.

TinkerBellesMum · 07/10/2008 18:37

I have to say, I'm so glad I don't just trust HCPs because they are professionals, (just read the Bounty link to the woman believing her "pied") I wouldn't have Tink now if I did and I would be on my way to a serious event.

TinkerBellesMum · 07/10/2008 19:27

SMQ, Tink was in 0-3 clothes when we started BLW and she did really well. As long as they're doing everything right they will be fine.

FlabbyTumSquashyBum I find that really upsetting. I only have premature babies, I'm in the February club but we're expecting an 08 baby. I'm also walking on crutches because I'm still suffering PGP (new name for SPD) from the first daughter I lost at 20 weeks three years ago - ie it never went away between babies. I would rather put up with the PGP than have to spend time in NNU not knowing what's going to happen next to my baby.

VictorianSqualor you should join me and AlexanderPandersMum over on SANDS, she is constantly telling me to walk away from weaning threads. I find it shocking that mothers who have already buried a baby are so blase about the risks of early weaning. Not that I'm suggesting they are putting their children's lives at risk, but when I had Tink I wanted to do everything right, that's how I ended up AP. They're as passionate about early weaning as those on Bounty too!

FlabbyTumSquashyBum · 07/10/2008 20:16

I'm so sorry to hear of your experiences, TinkerBellesMum. I found the threads extremely disturbing and couldn't believe that people were so selfish.
As with the irresponsible early weaning threads, there was no intervention or warnings from moderators.

Castor oil questions regularly pop up around about thirty weeks in the due in forums.

Because giving yourself diarrhoea juuuuuuuust before you have a baby, where one tends to push unrestrainedly is A VERY GOOD IDEA!

I'm surprised the midwives on duty don't log on to protect themselves from the spatter by telling these women what a bad idea it is.

nappyaddict · 08/10/2008 00:19

not posting on that one VS?

PuzzleRocks · 08/10/2008 09:37

Wow, I have just finished reading through this thread. I registered with Bounty when DD was born 17mths ago, although have never used the website other than to update profile re my current pregnancy. I'm going to cancel my registration immediatly. I would be ashamed to be associated with them, just for a poxy free pack of lenor.

jop64 · 08/10/2008 09:57

I have a feeling that you could become full time posters of weaning facts on bounty (aka hairpuller, or bang your head agiainst a brick waller !!) and it wouldn't make the slightest difference to the vast majority of their members. Hats off to you all though for keeping at it. I am now far better informed and will be continuing to slowly fade away myself while bf my amazingly hungry son for a few more weeks yet!

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 08/10/2008 10:05

LOL jop think of your skinnny jeans

AnarchyAunt · 08/10/2008 10:12

Oh lord. Have waded in.

Been offline for a couple of days as a mouse chewed through my laptop power supply! (Lets hope it was over six months old and doing mouse led weaning )

AnarchyAunt · 08/10/2008 11:22

I'm not VS but you click 'follow this blog' and if you don't have a google account it asks you to create one.

OP posts:
nappyaddict · 08/10/2008 11:23

can't find follow this blog?

AnarchyAunt · 08/10/2008 11:25

It should say it just above the list of followers. Maybe you need a google account to see it?

OP posts:
nappyaddict · 08/10/2008 11:26

AnarchyAunt · 08/10/2008 11:32

Cool.

I am busy trying to explain the bleeding obvious (again) over here

OP posts:
wasabipeanut · 08/10/2008 11:36

I've clearly come to this late - have read a few posts and not sure of outcome but I hope you have succeeded in getting Bounty to at least try and educate their users of the facts.

What I am VERY shicked about is that stuff from Muller. That's fucking outrageous and makes me extremely

My MIL bought those Muller things for my ds when we come and stay as she knows I don't like additives and they are marketed as "natural". Whenever he ate them he got really bad nappy rash a day later. Whatever is in them it isn't as wholesome as they might claim.
