Ilovemyflipflops, LOL @ their idea of sleep deprivation.
My absolutely angelic 25 week old has only slept through twice and I have an 8yr old and 3yr old to look after.
You just get on with it don't you?

VictorianSqualor · 06/10/2008 08:40

Also, these things need reporting every time we see a thread like this that Bounty has not either pulled or had an admin step in.
Mike Brady (The Nestle boycott dude) said this to me.

"You can report the details via the monitoring forms at:
www.babyfeedinglawgroup.org.uk/

Department of Health policy is to promote exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months so they should be concerned about this. Our monitoring reports go to key people so this would be good to expose."

Natt82 · 06/10/2008 08:57

I was thinking - is there a typical stereotype to early weaners?

Just in my experience, the ones I have met that wean at the 12w or earlier mark are also the ones that smoke/drink whilst pregnant. They more often than not bottle feed with no real attempt at breastfeeding. They typically live in the rougher estates, and have the kind of attitude in life that these boards display (its my child and I'll do what i want with it, so fuck off attitude)

Am I sterotyping too far?

happycamper10180 · 06/10/2008 09:04

I just couldn't believe that one! Rusk in bottle at 6 weeks (one of them was 6 not even 9), I don't know what to say.

Things have started to vanish so I guess the bounty censors have started work for the day.

happycamper10180 · 06/10/2008 09:06

Sorry on the wrong page, bit behind.

happycamper10180 · 06/10/2008 09:07

Also stereotyping but none of them can spell. Poor education = early weaner, maybe?

MrsJamin · 06/10/2008 09:08

VS- My absolutely angelic 39 week DS has never slept through! Yes you do just get on with it. He's such a lovely kid, crawls to me for cuddles. Would much rather that.

Anyway back onto the topic, I think we should start a MN crusade to get bounty kicked off the nhs maternity wards, I think it's terrible what they are allowed to get away with, appearing like pseudo-governmental especially with the child trust fund form etc. It's so sneaky and new mums and babies should be just left alone.

ilovemyflipflops · 06/10/2008 09:12

Oh this is naughty of me to quote someone but hey-ho it made me laugh.

'he was waking for a bit here and there he was getting tired and grumpy and so was i hahaha there not going to choke if your suppervising its not like you can leave them with a bottle !!! x x x x x x x x '

'suppervising' thats brilliant, she doen't know her own genius.

Yes because if you supervise while giving choking hazards thats alright, prevention is never better than cure afterall.

ilovemyflipflops · 06/10/2008 09:16

VS exactly you just get on with it, i am so sleep deprived it's getting silly, but my little tinkers are so worth it. Ahh gummy smiles and snotty kisses how did i ever live without them, sleeps for wimps anyway

RedOnHerBeheadedHead · 06/10/2008 09:26

It's just unbelieveable that they are being given the information and choosing to ignore it. I didn't have the internet when DS1 was born and my HV (whom I trusted - because lets face it she is a health professional after all ) told me to wean at 16weeks , i tried, but he wasn't really interested until about 6mths anyway. BUT - I can't help but wonder if him having these early tastes have anything to do with him now suffering occasionally with a prolapse rectum, which means we have to see a consultant every few months. (he's only 3.10yrs) - we are waiting for another appointment to see him now, and i will ask him if it might have anything to do with early weaning - if so, I am going to report my HV because I have it all in writing in his red book - she first spoke to me about weaning when he was only 11weeks ! I am so that she didn't inform me about the 6mth guidelines.

DS2 is 5mths and doesn't need and isn't getting anything other than boob right now and for the next month!

And, on the subject of stereotyping - it certainly seems that way about their education - though I'm sure they're not all like it.

happycamper10180 · 06/10/2008 09:26

ilovemyflipflops that particular person has really riled me before here despite getting quite a lot of good advice she carried on regardless.

ilovemyflipflops · 06/10/2008 09:36

Well in that case my ds is forward and should be eating a 3 couse meal for his lunch i can't believe a gp said 12 weeks was okay and did she have to be told to puree a carrot, why would you buy that in a jar thats like buying grated cheese, sheer laziness..

Natt82 · 06/10/2008 09:38

Just found this webpage - I thought it was really interesting, sorry if its been shared before

www.wholesomebabyfood.com/early-solid-food-feeding.htm

RedOnHerBeheadedHead · 06/10/2008 09:40

OMFG - Ewansmummy puts brown sugar in his bottle for constipation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
pure madness if you ask me

happycamper10180 · 06/10/2008 09:41

I know some health professionals are pretty daft but the question is did she really go to a gp or just say it to make people shut up? Like the other poster who said her dr said 'loads of babies have choked to death doing BLW'. Did a dr really say this or was she trying to discredit BLWers all by herself? Which reminds me they still haven't provided any links to any news stories about all these dead babies , would have thought there'd be some news about loads of dead babies...

ilovemyflipflops · 06/10/2008 09:42

i've heard it all now, sugar in the babies bottle

Natt82 · 06/10/2008 09:43

then on the other side of the spectrum you have a "dr" advising that 3 month olds can be ready for solids.

www.drgreene.com/21_804.html

Natt82 · 06/10/2008 09:44

I'd like to stress, my son is called Ewan but I am NOT Ewansmummy on bounty!!

30% sugar in prune juice vs 100% brown sugar. In water that babies dont need. Um, maths???

ilovemyflipflops · 06/10/2008 09:44

Sorry that'd already been posted, ,isn't that child abuse! what the hell is that doing to that babies insides, i feel sick

stretchmarkqueen · 06/10/2008 09:46

ha ha! one of them has wit!

Slightly off topic but, arrghhhh! Boy babies are a nightmare when you are used to girls!! When changing ds, I forgot to put his 'thing' down, so of course he's wee'd andit's now all up one side of his babygro!!!!!!!!!

As you were!

noolia · 06/10/2008 09:48

It seems to me that lots of people have a very odd perception of what a baby should be like! It's weird. I'm sure that I'm very sheltered but I have never encountered people like this in rl. I can't see that they are ever going to listen, you can't really argue with people who seem to have no understanding of basic science or statistics.

It's a scandal that Bounty are allowed in NHS hospitals - especially when they have the Child Trust fund stuff etc in them. I did find the plastic box useful though! I'm pretty cynical but in my post baby haze it took my a while to realise what it was all about. What can we do?

stretchmarkqueen · 06/10/2008 09:55

whatever

You'd think they would actually look up current guidelines before spouting crap??

InTheDollshouse · 06/10/2008 10:01

I agree it's a scandal that Bounty can give out their marketing stuff via NHS hospitals. Why are they allowed to? Who makes the decision to allow them to? What's in it for the hospital?

stretchmarkqueen · 06/10/2008 10:07

I spoke to my sis at the weekend, she's into week 4 of her midwifery degree. I told her about all of this, (she hasn't any dc's, so I'm educating her!!) and she says they're told not to accept/have on display any form of advertising. If they have pens etc..the logo should be stickered up. She's also doing loads on bf, having knitted boobs and everything!! So, what the hell are our MW's up to?? She will also be doing bits on weaning, not sure what yet. So why aren't HV educated on this, or gp's? They are our first point of call. They should be able to put our fears/worries about not weaning at rest, without needing referals etc..

ilovemyflipflops · 06/10/2008 10:11

Somebody please restrain me from replying to this person were the sleep comments rude? i thought the poster was quite polite
