Is the Iran war putting you off booking?

We were planning on booking a trip to Florida for Easter 2027. I was hoping to book the flights in April when they are released.
I’ve seen today that Iran have threatened terrorist attacks in big US tourist hotspots. That, plus flights are likely to be more expensive due to the oil prices, is making me think of postponing. Just wondered if anyone else had the same quandary or should I just get on with it?!

I have been having the same thoughts. Even if the probability is very low, I think it is better for me personally to keep powder dry so to speak as I think the COL and inflation is going to go through the roof.
Also the IAEA advice today is sobering on energy efficiency and WFH.

Thanks @Mumstheword1983I’ll check out the other thread.
Yes @IlovecheeseyahI’m thinking the same. I think the kids will be massively disappointed if we need to postpone but it’s already going to be a hugely expensive trip, now probably even more so, plus I just feel uneasy about the uncertainty of everything and safety aspect. I might see how things are looking in the autumn.

The threat from Iran wouldn't put me off as I don't see that as a credible risk for mainland America outside of possibly Washington or Mar a Lago.

The threat from Trump/MAGA/etc and the consequent impact on policing, immigration, and attitudes would seriously put me off from visiting the US in general and states like Florida in particular.

Yes I think that is a balanced perspective- hopefully later in the year it shall be calmer and more conducive to mental relaxation! Things are just too uncertain and also I have just come back from Disney 6 weeks ago and it was eye wateringly expensive. Maybe take them to Alton Towers in the interim to soften the blow or have a Disney themed tea party? Good luck my friend

Terrorism is meant to terrorise - unnecessarily. Having grown up unscathed through the "troubles' I have leant to disregard the threat. There's more risk crossing the road.

America under trump will always raise terrorist threats. If you want to go, I’d still go. Or you never will! Places like Disney always have tight security, bag checks etc.

Myneighbourisanosyoldgit · 31/03/2026 10:25

Another who lived through terrorism in mainland Britain in the 80's /90's and the threat of nuclear war.
As a teen I literally used to go to bed at night wondering if I would wake up in the morning to the news of a nuclear waste land in Britain.
What I'm saying is that you can worry about everything and not go anywhere or do anything. But life must go on and there is always some risk involved, crossing roads, having a fatal accident or like someone I knew, literally dropped dead at home from an electric shock from her toaster.
In OP's case it would be the money aspect that would stop me going not the risk of something happening, but everyone is different so there is no right or wrong answer.

Trump puts me off the USA right now, not so much Iran.

This. I wouldn't visit the US currently, even if you paid me a significant amount of money to do it.
