Almost time

Hi all. We have a once in a lifetime trip planned for 2 weeks time to Florida. Kids are huge Harry Potter fans. We came into an inheritance 2 years ago. Small amount but enough for a special holiday so we decided to take them to Universal Studios.

The news this morning is very worrying and of course in light of what's happening in the world a holiday is a small problem but we have had messages from family members today hinting to us to cancel saying they know other people cancelling holidays to USA as it's now not safe etc.

I was wondering if anyone else is in a similar position. I think it's unlikely our package holiday will be cancelled and this isn't something we would be able to do again. I don't think I would get any money back. Are other people cancelling holidays or is it a case of waiting to see what happens next?

No way would I be cancelling! I would stop watching the news and I would go on my fabulous holiday and nothing would stop me. As someone who suffers from anxiety, I always find something to worry about before I go away and then the minute I step off that plane, all is forgotten.

More seriously, if things ever did come to the point where it was officially not safe to travel, your holiday would be cancelled by the tour operator and you would get a refund or you would claim on your insurance- cancelling and loosing your money when there's no need would be madness.

Orlando is a tourist bubble. It will be fine.

Thank you both. I appreciate it. I'm quite the anxious traveller taking four children away. I will follow travel advice and hope for better days.

Get some escapism. You'll be far safer over there than here.

I've heard reports that is is (relatively!) empty. It would be interesting to get your feedback when you get back. Have a great time.

Hi it was very hot and humid. We had a 2 year old with us but she coped incredibly well and had a fab time. It was very busy at every park by 10am and queues were around an hour for all big rides. We had a fab time regardless and kept cool in the queue 😊

We got home today after 2 weeks at Caribbean beach. Found the first week super, super busy, especially magic kingdom and universal. By the 2nd week I was told Florida kids were back at school and it made sense as was still busy but no where near the 1 hour + queues for rides. What an amazing place!!! Totally magical but my god the heat… my kids (11 and 8) coped extremely well but I was completely fucking irritable by 3pm 😂
