Should I delete Roblox for my daughter? Advice

Hey everyone, so I bought my daughter who is coming 5 in March and iPad for Christmas. Not sure if it was a good idea because she would play it from the moment she opens her eyes until bedtime if she could, she mostly plays Roblox on it, which I am tempted to possibly delete and I'm not to sure it's appropriate for her age? Seen her shooting someone in it today 🤣 but she is obsessed with it, I think she will go mental if I do delete it. But I am thinking on it because her teacher in p1 said she doesn't listen in class and is falling behind a bit with her phonic sounds. And I notice she copies a lot of the behaviour from Roblox. Does anybody have any advice on this? I can't remember the last time she played with any of her toys, just always wants to play Roblox 🧐

I didn’t allow Roblox until dc were year 8 (lots had it from year 4 and there was a lot of mean bullying that played out so I kept my dc off it. 4/5yo should be playing with toys, you have preteen and teen years to lose them to screens.

Yeah exactly I don't really like it I've sometimes watched her playing it and big scary monsters kills her and she's like Look mummy he killed me. I wouldn't mind her playing educational games on her iPad..
I'm going to delete it tommorow when she's at school, anybody any advice what I could say to her on why it's randomly dissapeared? It will be world war 3🤣

I would, four is too young to be playing online games in my opinion. Replace it with apps like Crayola create and play, cbeebies little learners, reading eggs and the toca boca games. That gives her some variety but are also educational. She might have a tantrum the first few days but hold firm and explain that it's those games or no ipad at all.

'It's been taken off the app store for everyone. Look what games you have got instead!'

At that age I’d say something like “mummy’s realised it’s not quite right for your age so we’re going to put it away until you’re older, but I’m going to take you to a toy shop and you can spend £20 on a new toy” to soften the blow.

it’s hard to take things away so help her with that.

Peaceandquietandacuppa · 19/01/2025 19:43

Omg OP. My almost 8 year old isn’t even allowed Roblox 😳

In all honesty, I’d get rid of the iPad for a while to wean her off. But if you think that’s a bit harsh then at the very least only allow age appropriate stuff! My 3 year old is only allowed: CBeebies, Sago Mini game and occasionally YouTube to watch Blippi.

Also, “Seen her shooting someone in it today 🤣” - Jesus Christ, that’s really not a laughing matter in my opinion.

Actually, little white lie might be helpful!

Oioisavaloy27 · 19/01/2025 19:44

It's really not healthy for a child that age to have so much screen time.

LostittoBostik · 19/01/2025 19:44

At that age I would only offer the CBeebies apps

Mishmashs · 19/01/2025 19:44

This must be a wind up ….

A 4 year old is playing Roblox? Our daughter turns 5 this week and does not even possess an iPad 🤣 she has a laptop since Christmas on which she does her school maths work and some Netflix watching. Her brother is 9, and he has all sorts but has never gone near Roblox. He plays FIFA cricket22 and Minecraft solo mode to build villages and such.

SittingNextToIt · 19/01/2025 19:46

Sorry you meant she is in YEAR 4? Even so my son in Year 4 hasn't touched Roblox. Shirley you didn't mean age 4? That can't be right surely ?

SittingNextToIt · 19/01/2025 19:47

Not Shirley FFS. Surely!

Ilovethewild · 19/01/2025 19:47

My 13yr old plays Roblox, it’s really not ok for 5, and nor do 5 yrs need an iPad. Really what are you thinking?

please tell me you have u tube kids?

download age suitable games only and put some parental controls on your devices!

My 12 year old wasn't allowed Roblox ever and never will be, this game is not safe. It allows users to create their own games which are not monitored for content so can contain anything including violence, sex etc. It is known to have scammers, hackers and predators on there.

I only got her an iPad because she had a tablet thing and it kept freezing and barely worked

I’ve taken it off mine this weekend and uploaded some new games. He asked where it was. Acted surprised. He was fine playing his new games. Then we were browsing and he saw it - popped the wrong password it and surprise, it failed, told him Roblox must be updating it like we have to update it sometime. He asked about it just once today and I said I’d look for it in a few mins and he didn’t ask again :)

I did not know this at all! She is my first child and I would never put her at harm. I have never been around kids and didn't have a clue about games etc until the other day ! I used to see her jumping about as a cat on it. And she has an older sister on her dad's side and it was actually her that downloaded it for her, she's 12, and goes to her dads house a couple nights. So going to need to have a word with him and say I do not want the game back

Too young for an iPad full stop imo. A shared, family iPad perhaps. Definitely no to Roblox. I'd sooner get a BeeBot or Code and Go mouse, if coding and programming was what I wanted my kid to explore, over an iPad. But each to their own.

roses2 · 19/01/2025 19:52

Install Google family on it so you can limit screen time to eg 1 hour per day.

InfoSecInTheCity · 19/01/2025 19:53

Yes, delete it.

Roblox is an entirely user created game. None of it is created by an official source to any kind of rigorous standard.

You, or I, or the dirty pervert down the road make games and then make them available for everyone else to play. Dirty Perv could call the game 'adopt kittens with me' and give it a fun description about solving challenges and being rewarded with cute lil kitty cats. Then when you get in to the game, every character is naked, speaks only in innuendo or sexual overtures, performs pole dance style 'celebrations" and so on.

It has chat functionality both text and voice, so if you don't implement appropriate parental controls your daughter can make friends online and have conversations with them, they can share links to many external sites like YouTube, Facebook, Discord, X (formerly Twitter), Guilded, and Twitch so could direct her to all sorts of content, it has in app purchasing so if you haven't been careful with buying credits she may be able to buy more without realising she's spending real money.

It's a complete shit show when it comes to safeguarding.

Oh what's that do I just download it from her iPad? And it turns off after so long ?

DD is 5 and uses my iPad for homework only and it will stay that way for the foreseeable, screen time is so addictive at any age but at 5 they literally have zero control or self discipline. As for Roblox I've read so much bad stuff about it, there is a lot of content on there not suitable for younger children I wouldn't want my 5yo anywhere near it.
