If the AR method doesn't work for catching faraway Pokémon, what else can you do to catch them?

I cannot seem to catch a damn Druddigon no matter how many raids I win with help (thank you!) or on my own.

Are you using curve ball throws? I find I can get a bit more distance with them; other than that, all I can suggest is practice as much as possible. I’m getting quite a few wild Sawk now, which is good for distance. Hopefully someone else will come along with some other ideas.

Sawk are so far away. But they are good for practice. I do use curveballs but I wonder if I am not starting them from the right place.

I caught a shiny qwilfish yesterday much to DD2's delight as it is a bright pink 😃.

Our big Christmas present for the children (and me) was a Nintendo Switch and one of the games we have is Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Rescue. You play a human who has been turned into a Pokémon and go about rescuing other Pokémon and fighting your way through to do so. It's actually a really sweet and fun game but it is funny to come across Pokémon I recognise from catching them!

With your curve ball throws, go for a bigger circle, rather than speed, sometimes I’ll use as much as half the screen. Speed doesn’t matter, if anything, I find I lose control if I try too hard. Also, apologies if this is grandmother/eggs.

Congrats in the pink fish, it’s a lovely shiny and I think it’s quite rare. Make it your buddy for maximum envy-inducement.

The rescue game sounds fun, but just with pogo, I barely get anything else done.

The qwilfish is actually guarding a gym now as I have many requests for buddies from DS and DD2.

Can anyone talk me through the basics of raiding in really simple terms? I've joined a local group but it's like they talk in code and I'm not confident enough to ask them!

Also, is there a Mumsnet raiding group (I'm Belle theBubble, I'm friends with a few on this thread)?

That was a question I had as a beginner so I will do my best. If l write something you have figured out already, ignore that bit.

Raids are ways to get lots of XP, sometimes legendary Pokémon, sometimes shinies, and I think if you do them with a friend, they sometimes up your friendship a bit.

Every day when you spin a Photostop at a gym, you will get one daily raid pass. You only get one per day. You can get remote raid passes in the shop if you have enough Pokecoins, but you can only have three of those at a time.

With the daily raid pass, you go to a gym that has a raid going on. That is, you have to go there . When you get there and tap it, it will give you a chance to battle. If you do so, the algorithm will choose a battle party of six Pokémon in your collection that it thinks will do well in that raid. You can make your own battle parties too and use those. You can invite friends to help you and sometimes your friends will invite you.

Then when you enter the arena, you have a specific amount of time to beat the Raid Boss. If you succeed, you get a bunch of XP, stardust, some items and a chance to catch the Pokémon you just beat. If you don't, you get some Stardust and some xp and can try again because Pokémon Go is a friendly game.

There are several levels of difficulty with the one star ones being the easiest and 5 star the hardest. One star and three star raids can be done on your own, but anything above that, you need friends to get it.

Has anyone been finding PoGo a bit glitchy of late? Froze my screen just as I was going to catch a marine scatterbug so I had to restart and lost the scatterbug. V. annoying.

If you go into the medals bit and click on the butterfly one you should be able to find it there will be a little catch symbol where the marine medal should be ...hope that makes sense?

Also for those that want to join raids etc ...get lots of very helpful tips (not really from me I only started playing in Nov) then join the Mumsnet discord group....I think the link is posted somewhere earlier in this chat (not sure how to link it myself)

I can't open the gifts as my item bag is full! Not sure what I can get rid off 😂😂😂

They've changed it and you should be able to open gifts even with a full item bag now: it just gives you some stardust.

Thank you I have tried and it says item bag full and whether I want to upgrade.
I just send a few of my Pokemons in the nearby gym and then revive them again. This will get rid of a few items.
