Shiny new thread.

Our local group had our first socially distant raid t'other day, there were 11 in the lobby and only 3 of us were physically at the gym. The bantz on the message group afterwards was funny though after I introduced them to a new word.

That's the negative side of lockdown, many players are too worried to get within 10m of another. There are some friends I haven't seen in months, and just a few I have seen to have a socially distant chat. Still, mustn't grumble.

The weather's been a bit rubbish here most of the weekend. I went into town on Saturday to get bread and a burger and a HoOh raid was happening, so I joined in. None of us got a shiny, unlike that woman on the tv show Central Station, who showed commendable restraint. :o

Ooooh have you got a cheeky second account? 😁 I can literally do any time. I’m just waiting to see if anyone else wants to join in too, although they have all sent me gifts apart from HayJoLou, so presumably I am good to go if I want to.

@DoctorTwo the lousy weather has been a plus here. Windy all day so both Ho-Oh and Zekrom have been weather boosted.
I also picked up a hundo skamory, and a hundo hitmonlee. No shinies though.

I finally got my 50 psychic / steel pokemon today for Special Research. I now have to win 5 raids, evolve my magikarp (approx 80 candies to go), catch a cubone and earn my gold Johto medal. Oh, and try to win a legendary pokemon in a raid. And get 42 more excellent throws. Going to be a busy week!
Is everyone buying a ticket for Go Fest? I think I'm going to. Anyone done it before and would you recommend?

5 more throws to make the 50. There isn't really a reward though is there, just a few poke balls....weird...

Up to 39 excellent throws now. Magmars weren't as successful this morning.

@HighBrows My theory was that if you wait to level up with Ray and Kath at the same time you can get both in one egg IYSWIM.

Am I right in thinking the elite skill challenge doesn’t contribute to the “one million trainers” goal?

I am still on 2 out of 50 so I can’t see myself finishing this one!

I’m giving up on the 50 excellent throws. I only got the challenge last night, and to get it I will literally have to stay awake for the next 48 hours throwing an excellent every hour....ain’t gonna happen! I’ve managed only one so far!

I don't think I'm going to finish the 50 excellent throws challenge either. Put on an incense and managed 7 in the hour but I don't have the coins for more incense or the time to go out - my house seems to spawn one every half hour...
A bit of a shame but I will keep trying till the time runs out...

@ignatiusjreilly - yes, I think you're right that it doesn't count towards the million trainers thing, they said that it's just for bragging rights. I'm on 12 now thanks to a couple of sudowoodos standing nice and still while I caught them.
Has anyone done a raid against the Ho oh yet? There was one near to me today but nobody else was showing up to battle and it's pointless me trying on my own.

I'm not bothering with the 50 excellent throws either. I seem to throw 5-10 excellents per day anyway based on what I'm registering, but that's across three different accounts: DS phone is in for repairs with a software problem. I'd rather split play and raids between all 3 accounts but that means I'd have to make 150 excellent throws.....not going to happen when I'm in the office all week!
I decided to concentrate on pinapping bulbasaurs instead and stock up on candies.

I've got 8 so far and I've got plenty of incense and balls but there's not enough time to do it.
If it was great or nice I'd go for it

In theory if I could repeat today then I could just about do it in the time limit but I am out of balls and incense.
Depending on mood I could go out tomorrow in car and park up at some stops and gyms and catch what appears... Will see how I feel about it. On the one hand it seems like too difficult a challenge on the other I am a stubborn bugger and like to master things! I wish it wasn't timed and would just sit there indefinitely!!!
Anyway probably because I've been on this most of the day I've had my best ever day on shinies! Got a mincino, party hat squirtle and drifloon. All low stars but will keep because I like collecting everything!

After the 8th I’m assuming the focus on flying types will change to something else. Do we know what to? Have they published a plan of the themes that I’ve missed?

Also do we know if the party hat Pokemon will continue for the whole of the event or just this week? DD almost has enough candy for a charizard but doesn’t have a normal charmander 🤦‍♀️. She hasn’t caught any bulbasaurs yet though, they aren’t as common here.

Thanks for the tip, @SoulofanAggron - I thought the Ho ohs had only just appeared in raids for some reason. Well done to anyone who has managed the fifty excellent throws, I'm still a long way off.
One cool thing happened this evening in our garden. I caught a Hoothoot which turned into a Ditto. DH needed a Ditto for the Meltan task, so I quickly logged in on his phone, caught the Hoothoot and the same thing happened, another Ditto. Thought that might be helpful for anyone who plays more than one account.

@SoulofanAggron was that you I just battled? I was trying to watch Miami Vice....! The rare candy was a good consolation prize.

@BaronessBomburst I haven't been joining in our group battling yet but could have a go at some point Just got to do all my gifts for the nite. What's your trainer name on there again?

How do you join a group for battling/raiding? I've only attempted 1 and 2 level raids on my own, which are generally pretty easy now. A 3 would be a stretch unless I had just the right party, and no way could I attempt a 4 or 5 on my own.

I have been wondering what the etiquette is when it comes to raids! My son and I went past a gym where there was a Ho-Oh raid happening the other day. We saw two men with two phones each (good idea!) who were obviously about to battle!

My son wanted me to ask if we could join them but I was too embarrassed

Do any of you approach players in real life? That was the first time we’ve spotted other players in the wild.
