I know the official meet up is in a large park but it’s out of the way for me and there’s not that many Pokestops there. I’m going to go to the city centre as it always has lots of spawns and many Pokestops.

I’m running low on balls as I’ve been visiting family for a few days. There’s been a lot of spawns but not many Pokestops to make up for it.

TakeAChanseyOnMe · 15/06/2018 21:11

@MonaChopsis it was a business trip to London back in November that got me into Pokemon Go again after a long break. Pokemon everywhere!

For the Charmander day I just walked around my quiet neighbourhood and caught lots (2 shinys) where there’s not many spawns usually.

In case anyone is interested, here is the hatch rate for the current water event Smile

@SneakyGremlins in the town I grew up in the girls' and boys' high schools were separated by a cemetery... It was an unusually lively one, that's for sure.

Thanks, TakeaChansey. I accidentally stumbled back onto Pokemon Go on the Mareep community day, and went to the same town for the Charmander day too... Got three shineys but only had enough candies to evolve two of them!! Saving the last one to swap ;-)

Also, linking in to what we were discussing yesterday about shiny rates, TSR has spent months studying shiny rates and is releasing their findings over the next three days!

The first instalment is in here:
thesilphroad.com/science/pokemon-go-deducing-shiny-rate/

They have worked out that the rough shiny rate is 1 in 450.

With our new knowledge that the probability of receiving a shiny Pokémon from an eligible wild encounter is roughly 0.222%, or 1 shiny in every 450 encounters, we can extrapolate that a traveler has an 80% chance of receiving a shiny Pokémon after engaging approximately 725 potentially shiny encounters.

And while weather and events do play a small part, they’re not significant! So it really is pretty much down to luck and perseverance.

Have a read of the whole findings; it’s really interesting and there’s some great statistics in there.

SneakyGremlins · 15/06/2018 21:44

Will the 1/22 shiny chance be for all Pokémon tomorrow?

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 15/06/2018 21:55

Will the 1/22 shiny chance be for all Pokémon tomorrow?

SneakyGremlins No, on community days it’s only an increased shiny rate for the chosen Pokémon.

So tomorrow, you have a 1/22 chance of shiny Larvitar, but the same as usual (1/450) for all other shiny available Pokémon.

MonaChopsis · 15/06/2018 22:06

I got a shiny Aron a couple of weeks ago and didn't notice until I tried to transfer it Blush Thank goodness for the extra confirmation they ask for!

Yay, it’s Larvitar day! Here’s a few tips and tricks as we have some new and returning players to the group Smile

• Put a lucky egg on every half an hour - it’s 3x bonus catch XP!

• Put a starpiece on every half an hour - with the water event bonus stardust this ties in nicely

• Clear your research tasks in advance! You want them completely free as the majority of research tasks will change to “Catch 3 Larvitar”, allowing you to complete multiple tasks during the event for stardust, pinaps, great balls and ultra balls

• Do not put lures on until the event has started - they’ll only last 3 hours if placed after 10am

• Incense is a good idea while walking to increase spawns - one of my shiny Charmander’s last community day was from an incense

• Setting alarms every half an hour to remind you to replace lucky eggs and star pieces is a great idea. I also set an alarm for 20 minutes before the end of the event to ensure I have plenty of time to evolve

• Pinap, pinap, pinap! I can’t stress this enough - if you want at least six good Tyrannitars (and you should!), you’ll need 739 Larvitar candy. And that doesn’t include powering them up (which if you have several good ones you do want to do) or the inclusion of a shiny Tyrannitar or two, making it at least 862 candy needed just for evolution.

This is a very important community day - the most important so far. Double Rock Tyrannitar is a game changer and it will make a lot of difficult raid bosses a lot easier. So make the most of it!

Remember: you can never have enough Larvitar candy.

SneakyGremlins · 16/06/2018 09:52

Thankyou so much! I'm having a ninja shower then out to the park Grin

PickAChew · 16/06/2018 10:47

Nice, sneaky.

Been a bit buggy for me, so far.

SneakyGremlins · 16/06/2018 11:39

I have a shiny of each evolution stage and a normal one of each evolution stage! Grin terrible IV though

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 16/06/2018 11:44

2 shinys so far and lots of low iv others. Have evolved one shiny at 80% but am holding out for a better for my second evolution.

SneakyGremlins · 16/06/2018 12:29

The best shiny I've had was 16% Angry

OrianaBanana · 16/06/2018 13:05

No bloody shinies, just loads of shit Larvitars, not one with a good IV. I give up!! Angry

TakeAChanseyOnMe · 16/06/2018 13:10

I got 4 shinies in total but all rubbish IVs. The best IV normal one I got was 91%. Got 2 double rock Tyranitars but the others all got fire blast as their charge move!

Got lots of XP though so now level 33. Grin

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 16/06/2018 13:14

I lost the last 25 minutes. Kept kicking me out as I was trying to catch larvitars with pinap berries. Not impressed!

TakeAChanseyOnMe · 16/06/2018 13:24

That’s annoying! My app wouldn’t load for the first 5 minutes but it was fine after that. I was in a city centre with good phone signal. Pretty much every pokestop had lures out!

SneakyGremlins · 16/06/2018 13:43

I reached level 25! Grin

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 16/06/2018 13:54

1 shiny but crap IV. Best larvitar was 91% which matched the one I already have so evolved both of those.

First community day I haven’t found a 96+% Pokemon.

OrianaBanana · 16/06/2018 14:25

Does anyone have a Pokemon they irrationally dislike? I won’t catch Volbeats, they freak me out. Nasty jumpy things that fly at you, urrgh.

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 16/06/2018 14:35

I absolutely love statistics, particularly in Pokemon Go as I like to see how much XP, dust etc. I’ve got after an event. So a couple of minutes before an event starts I screenshot my XP, stardust and the number of community day Pokémon I’ve seen so I can compile some fun stats Smile So here they are...

Larvitar Community Day Statistics and Analysis

I caught four shinies (71%, 67%, 44% And 33%), one which I evolved to shiny Tyrannitar, one to shiny Pupitar, and the other two stayed as shiny Larvitars.

Before the event my personal stats were

XP: 1,394,593
Dust: 1,584,857
Larvitar Seen: 19
Larvitar Caught:19
Larvitar Candies: 2
No. of Tyrannitars: 4 (100%, 96%, 93%, 91%)

After the event my personal stats are

XP: 1,611,188
Dust: 1,643,512
Larvitar Seen: 188
Larvitar Caught: 187
Larvitar Candies: 628
No. of Tyrannitars: 8 (100%, 96%, 96%, 93%, 93%, 93%, 91% & 33% - shiny)

I gained 216,595 XP
I gained 58,655 dust
I saw 169 Larvitar
I caught 168 Larvitar
1 Larvitar ran

I spent the last 20 minutes evolving, so I had roughly 160 minutes catching time.

So, that means I caught 1.05 Larvitar per minute. Roughly 1 per minute, which is pretty good.

I pinapped the majority of Larvitars I saw as I started the event with over 300 Pinaps and before I started evolving I had over 1,000 Larvitar candy (and I only started with 2!).

I evolved a 96%, two 93% and one shiny (which is poor IVs but I wanted a shiny Tyrannitar with Smack Down, and it’s higheat stat is attack so not all bad), as well as one of my other shinies to Pupitar.

After my evolving I am left with 628 candy to finish off fully powering up my 100% Tyrannitar and begin to power up my 90s.

So yes, great day! The game was a bit laggy at times and performance could have been better, and of course the weather was horrid, but other than that I’m really pleased Smile

NameyMcNameChange00 · 16/06/2018 14:39

I caught 73 Larvitar in the 90 minutes or so that I played in town. No shinies though Sad. I really wanted to play for the full 3 hours but it was so drizzly and my phone got soaked. Very annoying. I evolved a new Tyrannitar though and have powered it up to about 3350CP. I want to get to level 35 so I can power stuff up more.
