Not everyone is bothered about whether their Pokemon are "good" or not. There is no right or wrong way to play the game, some players are more concerned with filling their Pokedex up than having the strongest creatures.

I don't battle in gyms often, don't do raids and don't have the IV calculator thing on my phone - I'm just not that interested. I'm more interested in catching ANY Lapras, and evolving my Treecko as I don't like shadows in the Pokedex...

Problem with no doing raids is it means shadows in the pokedex.

FleurDelacoeur That’s fine; the game can be played in whatever fashion you want. It allows for the casual player, the catch it all player, the hardcore players and many, many more.

But if you don’t do raids, you will have gaps in your PokeDex unless those Pokemon are released via missions.

Raids and battling is a big part of the game and the majority of players take part in it, so the advice on high IVs and so on is there for those that want it.

If you don’t battle, it doesn’t matter if you have poor IV Pokemon, but if you do battle, it matters a great deal.

Again, it’s all about how you want to play the game. There is no right way and I’ve not seen anyone suggesting there is.

Personally, I play hardcore. Every spare minute I have (before and after work and on my break, as well as every single available day off) is spent on perfecting the game.

I want a full PokeDex (all of Gen I and II are done bar regionals not yet released in the UK and Pokemon not yet in the game, and Gen III is only missing three Pokemon of those available), but I want that full PokeDex to be great IV Pokemon, and I’ve mostly managed to achieve that alongside getting gold gyms, completing medals etc.

I got my Mew! I’ve not got many of the legendaries as I’m not in an area with many gyms or raiding parties, so am dead chuffed to have this spot on my Pokedex filled.

dillite All of the Pokemon in the attached picture can be Dittos, so you need to catch every single one of those types that you see, and then after you catch them hope they change into a Ditto.

Have spent a busy morning racing around the centre of Newcastle getting those last few raids in. Knackered now, but I've at least earned my Fitbit Sahara badge!

Jammy Mr "I don't do curve ball throws. Ever." Ds1 got his excellent curve ball throw almost immediately. Mine took a little longer as my thumb had locked up again after all that raiding in the biting wind but I just got mine on a 'tini :)

It's not that long since I started getting more interested in the IVs so there are some that I want to "upgrade". In the early days I didn't know about that element of the game and wanted a full pokedex and evolved the highest CP which was useful to slide in at the bottom of a busy gym under the old system.

The CP/ IVs trade off is frustrating when it takes so much stardust and candy to power up some of the ones with highest IVs.

I am proud that one of my few 100%s is a Rhydon. More useful than my Magmar.

I have caught EVERYTHING I can for a week - no ditto. Totally stuck now.

Mine has gone a bit odd anyway and I’ve stopped getting New field research from pokestops?

UrgentScurryfunge That’s brilliant - in Gen IV Rhydon evolves into Rhyperior and it’s a beast of a Pokemon so you’re very lucky!

@Eggzandbacon sounds/looks like your app is having a bit of a wobble. I'd suggest uninstalling and reinstalling it and see if that sorts things out. :)

I'd just force stop. That happened to me, a few days ago, when I loaded up the app in a poor signal area.

Hi all, I'm nearly level 15 now, catching everything that moves and have spent no stardust or candies yet. Only Pokémon of any note is an Eevee at 87% IV but level 18. Other than that, diddly squat!

Oh and I hatched an 89% igglypuff, any point doing anything with that?

CollyWombles That’s good; you want to save them for when you’re a higher level and able to hatch and catch better Pokémon. I would suggest waiting until at least Level 25 before powering up.

The best tip out there for new trainers is saving your stardust and using it wisely.

CollyWombles No. It turns into Jigglypuff and then Wigglytuff, but it’s a Pokemon never used in battles or gyms so worthless except for the dex.

Also as you’re under level 20, everything you hatch will be too low a level to be worth it anyway.

I’m not thrilled it’s Charmander. I’m so sick of Gen I.

I don't mind upgrading the gen1s as some of mine were weak and I've levelled up a lot since some of them. I'm now able to evolve my first Blastoise. I have one that was a weak wild catch of CP1200 or so!

I'm glad my Venusaur has a new companion too.
