Here we go with a shiny new thread.

The spoofers in the place I used to live made it impossible for legit players to ever stay in a gym long enough to get coins. Then when legendary raids started they thought they were heroes with their "air support". Pissed me right off tbh.

It's much better where I live now. We have a zero-tolerance policy to them and we know which are the spoofing accounts. We keep them out of raids and if they start appearing in gyms too frequently we make a concerted effort to boot them out whenever we see them. Consequently they don't seem to hang around here long and the game is much better here for it.

Spoofing is using software on your phone to fool the GPS into thinking you are somewhere different. So you can raid gyms which are miles away or put yourself in a certain country to catch region-specific Pokemon.

It's not allowed, and if you're caught doing it, Niantic bans you. I'm a Luddite so would have no idea how to do it even if I wanted to.

Yeah, there are spoofers and there are spoofers. To be fair, the type you've both come across would piss me right off too. I gather there are a few of them around our neck of the woods but I haven't actually encountered them myself.

There's umteen chats around town. I'm more active in the local neighbourhood specific chats than the larger ones more focused on town. Spoofers definitely not welcomed here. Some tread a narrow line with utilising their children's accounts and bringing extra phones to raids, but most of the play is clean and not to the detriment of others.

UrgentScurryfunge, yes, we have occasions when players bring family member's phones to raids so there are enough people. I've only tried it once with a DC's phone when we were short - but it turns out I really struggle to battle on two simultaneously.

Urgent and Muddling Yeah generally players around here dislike people multi-accounting or playing on multiple phones (belonging to wife, husband, kids etc.) but only in the case of battling gyms. It's very annoying if you spot a gym a little way away that's been taken by a member of your team and has 5 spaces. Then 2 mins later you get there and discover it's been filled by Bob1, Bob2, Bob's Wife, Bob's Daughter and Bob's son. which really does affect the gaming experience for all members of that team.

However, while it's frowned upon, it doesn't actually contravene the Niantic Ts&Cs so it's not explicitly banned in our group just discouraged.

It doesn't so much bother people when it comes to raids, and is actually sort of encouraged in Ex-Raids in terms of people bringing other people's phones if they couldn't make it.

I definitely wouldn't have the coordination to manage two handsets I struggle to catch the raid bosses. 3 fails so far on Latia. 5 fails on Kyogre.

I had to win 5 battles for a challenge earlier... two rounds on a Valour for takeover. Took two and one round on my friend's recent Instinct place, but deliberately left her in so she could get a chance of coins later.

What's the secret to finding shiny Pokémon? I haven't seen a single one in ritual Yorkshire! The highlight of my week has been catching Moltres as a result of a research breakthrough this morning

ApplesTheHare There isn’t one. Outside of events, they’re exceptionally rare, and they’re independent to each person. It really is just luck; just click on each Pokemon that has a possibility to be shiny to see if it is.

On community days, the chance of the Pokemon featured on the day being shiny is significantly increased for those three hours, so they’re pretty easy to get then (I got 7 shiny Bulbasaurs during the last community day).

We have a local player who manages to raid with 4 devices. He lines them up horizontally and plays them like a piano.

We have local players with multiple accounts, it can be quite annoying when they all descend on a gym but it's even more annoying when they clearly are using different coloured accounts to shave people out of gyms in order to add one of theirs.

I use two handsets quite often - if I'm out and about during the school day I'll use my own account and one of either DD's or DS1's as well. It takes a bit of practise but isn't too tricky. When it comes to catching a raid boss, I alternate which phone - concentrate on throwing one ball then switch to throw the next until one/both of us has caught it.

And if I take a gym, I do usually then log in as the kids and add them too, since we're all Mystic. Otherwise they'd only get to play at weekends and basically never get any coins.

That wouldn't bother me really Rue, but most of the multiple accounters where I am aren't ones who play for their kids, just people who have two/three/four (and more!) for themselves. There's a bit of a correlation with spoofing too, ime.
