Despite only really playing at the weekend due to working I'm now 180k through Level 31. Today I cheated somewhat. The M25 was stationary, so I opened the app and left it on. I had 8 eggs cooking and between junctions 18 and 22 managed to hatch 7 of them. Mantine, 2x Exegcute, Krabby, Eevee, Togepi and Magby.

Congrats Abbey on reaching Level 30, and commiserations Spammy on not being able to log in.

Good tip what to do! Do we get extra points anywhere for raids?

No worries Smile

What do you mean, extra points?

SomewhatIdiosyncratic · 29/06/2017 22:25

Picked up a brand new mon from a raid. I've not had one from this family before Smile

My other success was getting a Quilava from a raid. It wasn't the greatest, but the injection of candy enabled me to do a full evolution on a Wonder of a Cyndaquil. Except I don't know what it's called as I'd edited the name so it's still labelled as Cyndaquil W. He's now busy in a gym!

I managed to take down my first Blissey today Grin. I was struggling on timing out. I then realised that I'd got enough candy to fully evolve a new Machamp which I'd forgotten about as I was ready shortly after my last mass evolution. That was a game changer as it made a difference in fighting the Blissey within the time allowance. The search by type function helped too.

SomewhatIdiosyncrati Do you not have a Totodile?

Also if you fully evolved your Cyndaquill it's now a Typhlosion.

SomewhatIdiosyncratic · 29/06/2017 22:30

I came across this tip earlier; if you type evolve into the search bar, it pulls up the pokemon with enough candy to be evolved.

Do we have to win a certain amount to qualify for legendary raids? - there is a raid badge I think.

WooWooSister · 29/06/2017 22:42

Our Scizor still hasn't come home Sad We've been starving it in the hope it came home before our Kingler but they're both clinging on. Knowing our luck, they'll both come home together and we'll only get 50 coins.
The weather was horrendous here today so we didn't do any raids. We're off out of the city tomorrow so might catch some new pokemon (fingers crossed).

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 29/06/2017 22:45

Do we have to win a certain amount to qualify for legendary raids?

Nope. All you need for a Legendary Raid (Level 5) is a Legendary Raid Pass, which you have a chance of getting when you do a raid.

BumWad · 29/06/2017 22:51

Thanks for that tip Somewhat!

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 30/06/2017 00:05

No worries Smile It would be great if we could all have a Legendary Raid Pass before they introduce Legendaries!

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 30/06/2017 06:43

Where did you get that information, WhatToDo? I have seen various rumors (on pokemongohub) about having to win 'hundreds' of raids, which can only be nonsense, and I have seen it said (by Niantic) that players can get a legendary pass by being 'very active' in the gym system, with no qualification as to what 'very active' means. I've seen it suggested on Silph Road that you need to have golden gym badges, but I've not seen anything concrete yet.

SomewhatIdiosyncratic · 30/06/2017 07:21

No, I've never seen a totodile.

I'd better give Typhlosion its real name!

I've noticed a couple of times this week that I've got my free raidpass each day, but not necessarily had the opportunity to get a weak raid where I can get to it at a suitable time, but I have been able to use it the next day then been given that days pass on the next gym that allows a second go. So still one pass per day, but can roll over.

The chances of getting a crowd big enough to deal with a 3 face plus boss is unlikely, certainly on a week day which is my main play time.

DameDeDoubtance · 30/06/2017 07:48

Somewhat I love naming evolved pokemon by their previous name, really confuses people. I have a gorgeous Gyarados called Magicarp.

Got kicked out of a gym at 5.30 this morning but claimed my 50 coins.

Due to lack of supplies I am holding back a bit, I really want to take part in the raids.

I have a stack of good mon though so I can keep going but I feel so mean as I can't feed them after battle.

Spun over 20 stops yesterday and got a handful of potions, plus it takes multiple potions to revive a mon. Frustrated but still think the gyms are so much better than the days of the Blissey Towers!

Bimblesalong · 30/06/2017 08:48

Interesting, thanks, what to do.

MouldyPeach · 30/06/2017 10:09

Delurking to say that to rename your Pokemon back to it's original name you can completely delete the name field and press ok and it will return to what it really is. Discovered this after evolving many Eevees Smile

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 30/06/2017 11:28

It's displayed on a number of different sites, PsammeadPaintedTheLion, but here's just one:

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 30/06/2017 11:48

So, the official word is

'In an interview with Niantic's director of software engineering, Ed Wu, he disclosed some juicy details on the upcoming update that will be hitting our smartphone devices this summer.

"I can't talk much about exactly what we're going to do there," Wu told Gamereactor. "But I can say, for those players who train really hard, who go to gym and raid battles almost every day and go quite regularly, we'll have special invitation-only events where some of the most rare and most powerful Pokémon, including legendaries, might appear."'

Natsku · 30/06/2017 11:49

My Snorlax came home with 50 coins so very proud of him.

Going to get DD to practice the route to school ready for the Autumn today which just so happens to go right by the graveyard so I can take over the gym there again as only ten minutes more defending needed until that badge is complete.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 30/06/2017 12:14

Quote from the article I posted, PsammeadPaintedTheLion:

If you join enough Raid Battles you’ll eventually receive a Legendary Raid Pass. These will almost certainly be used to fight Legendary monsters when Niantic rolls that feature out.

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 30/06/2017 12:28

Yeah, I have read that, and that might very well be the case, the rumor mill is usually fairly accurate. I was just looking for something more official (although I know Niantic are buggers for announcements). That quote is extrapolated from something else, and I wanted to know what the 'something else' was.

On another note I am totally pissed off with myself today after fucking up a raid in a spectacular fashion. Arrggghh.

cottonwool125 · 30/06/2017 14:58

Dame I hope so! I was so close but it was the time that ran out rather than defeating all of my Pokemon in my team Sad

WhatToDo what Pokemon should I have used? I probably made the rookie mistake of using my strongest Pokemon regardless of the type (Archanine x2, Donphan, Typhlosion, Houndoom and Rhydon). Should I have used water types?

Icouldbeknitting · 30/06/2017 15:18

I didn't realise the mighty wonder that is the search box, you can search your Pokemon by type which is really handy when you're trying to find the best attacker for a gym.

I saw a trainer in the flesh today but was disappointed to find that he wasn't local, it was a name I'd not seen before. I scuttled past without making eye contact.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 30/06/2017 16:00

cottonwool125 No! Electric is strong against flying and water so never, ever use water against electric!

Electric is only weak to ground, so Rhydon and Donphan were good choices (assuming they have ground moves).

The rest are neutral, so unless you have other Pokemon with ground moves they were okay choices.

You should always go with the Pokemon with the best moves/type rather than your strongest, as it's more effective that way.

Ha ha Grin

I have an album in my phone that are just photos of regular Pokemon players in our town with their names above them, so I know whose who Grin

cottonwool125 · 30/06/2017 17:58

WhatToDo oh okay Confused good thing I didn't try that then!

My Donphan has earthquake and my Rhydon has stone edge. They're fairly decent aren't they?

SomewhatIdiosyncratic · 30/06/2017 18:20

I found a totodile shadow and caught it Grin

I've got a Muk from a raid today. That's my second after walking Grimer for candy for many miles a couple of months ago. I'm much happier walking togepi in my arms Wink

The other search tip I've picked up is that you can put the type in. Handy for raids. If I'm not sure what the weakness is, I do a quick search on the pokemon database site. It makes a big difference for raids and tough pokemon.

I'm enjoying battles more now than the early days when I only stood a chance with an army of vaporeans.
