It's the first thread! Thanks HQ!
I am a long time vegetarian who has recently opened my eyes and gone vegan.
I feel I've had a steep learning curve recently but so far am loving the lifestyle and trying new foods and I feel great.
Fab to have a place to chat.

boodle no, not at all! Mind you our meals use a lot of the ingredients your DH doesn't like, and they tend to be cheap..... sorry. It can be expensive if you buy lots of substitutes, but we tend to rely on pulses/grains/veg instead and we find them both nicer and cheaper.

Tentatively joining in. I did vegetarian for a month in January and have majorly cut the amount of meat I've ate since then. I've found myself contemplating vegan more and more lately, the meat industry isn't sitting with me well anymore and also for health reasons.

Milk, I have switched quite well to the like of oatly and the odd bit of almond. I have always had a serious love of all types of cheese though, so I know I will find that difficult. Tofu I've found I don't particularly like but I can eat it. I don't like the majority of 'meat alternative' type foods, do like the LMcC veggie sausages though.

My only concern is I will lose a lot of weight being vegan as it dropped off me when I did a month vegetarian. Would more protein help with this?

Tomorrow I'm going to my first vegan fest, hoping to pick up some yummy food while I'm there Smile

I've been vegan for 13 months. Amazed by how much easier I'm finding it this time round (I managed 6 months in 2002) and I suspect the difference is that I can afford a wider variety of foods now. DP is vegan too and DD is vegan at home and veggie at nursery.

We're essentially following the Forks Over Knives whole food vegan approach to eating, so we don't often have oils, salt or refined sugar at home either.
