It's the first thread! Thanks HQ!
I am a long time vegetarian who has recently opened my eyes and gone vegan.
I feel I've had a steep learning curve recently but so far am loving the lifestyle and trying new foods and I feel great.
Fab to have a place to chat.

Signing up to the vegan register Grin

Whatslovegottodo · 26/04/2017 14:11

Yaay Grin
I kind of thought it would be nice to have different threads for like - recipes, documentaries and things to watch, vegan finds, chat etc.

Then I thought I was perhaps getting too invested and OTT about this topic Grin

Great thread!

I watched this two nights ago on Amazon Video. It's free if you've got Prime:-

EATING

This award-winning video covers a lot of ground very comprehensively and discusses how to reverse a wide variety of diseases. The Eating video is used in hospitals and wellness clinics throughout the world to motivate people to change their diets and restore their health.

Very powerful.

I have signed up to the Vegan Society. I looked at getting a PETA info pack but they seemed to want all sorts of personal info about me just for a pdf link Confused so holding off on that one for the moment.

I have been back and fore, toying with the idea of veganism for a long time. I first thought about it for autoimmune disease which I have. The animal cruelty thing is also huge for me.

I have a lot of reasons to try it. DH won't be on board, but would eat a few of the meals.

I don't care for dairy (except ice-cream and butter). I like meat but especially fish. I don't crave it though. I love beans (all kinds), lentils, rice, etc. so would certainly enjoy the food.

I need to lose weight and I could do with being less constipated too Blush

Hello!

Excited to have the new board Smile.

I am slowly making my way from omni to vegan after doing Veganuary earlier this year. I am more or less meat and dairy free at the moment and would like to cut both out completely before I start working on eggs and honey, (neither of which I use that much of anyway, so I'm hoping they will be easier o cut out). After that, I will look properly at cosmetics and household products.

shakeyospeare · 26/04/2017 15:28

@Whatslovegottodo Tesco has got loads in - I went and stocked up earlier! :D

Any pregnant vegans?

trevortrevorslattery · 26/04/2017 15:40

Hello Smile

I am vegan-curious so thought I would come along and lurk for a bit

tatatetelle · 26/04/2017 15:43

Count me in! I'm a pescatarian looking to move full veggie after my pregnancy, and probably vegan long term..please be gentle Grin

HuntingSquirrels · 26/04/2017 15:55

Another vegan here. I was a vegetarian since a child - but didn't drink milk or eat eggs, so becoming vegan a couple of years ago wasn't a big step.
My omnivore husband and son - I cook meat for them - are loving some of the vegan recipes I have been cooking.

tatatetelle · 26/04/2017 16:11

Quick win tip - the Just roll shortcrust and puff pastries are both vegan, saved me for so many last minute dinners! Bring on all the vegetable tarts!!

Nospringflower · 26/04/2017 16:15

Another wannabe vegan here. Find chocolate biscuits hard to resist and also hard when eating out.

FleshEmoji · 26/04/2017 16:22

I'm just interested in adding more vegan meals to the mix - what recipe books do people recommend? We're adventurous cooks by the way.

flibberdy · 26/04/2017 16:27

I'm joining!! I've managed to transition to vegan but still cook meaty meals for my (stick in the mud) DH.
My love for veg knows no bounds but I really miss fish!!!! Sad

FauxFox · 26/04/2017 17:23

Place marking - been Vegan for about a month Smile

AugustCarrot · 26/04/2017 18:36

Oooh loving this!

Went veggie over 30 years ago, vegan 17 years ago, blipped when pregnant five years ago and struggled to get back since - as in I'm vegan when it's savoury but find it hard to resist dairy chocolate!

So I'm 98% vegan with that occasional blip that am working on. I annoy myself as I'd never touch cheese or butter etc but wave a bar of Galaxy in my face and I'll bite your hand off. I will overcome this!

DeliveredByKiki · 26/04/2017 18:38

I'm on a very slow transition to veganism - I still occasionally eat sustainable/carefully caught fish and it's the last thing to go but I really struggle cos my DD doesn't eat any veg, and it helps when I go home to stay with mum for a while, so she doesn't freak!

We also have friends round the corner who have rescued battery hens running around their garden so I sometimes eat their eggs - I'm def more plant-based lifestyle than true vegan as ultimately I don't have a theoretical problem with animal products (very dependant on what they are though) but welfare is a top issue and my biggest issue is the planet (I know I know, I should absolutely stop eating fish to make this massive impact)

nice to see so many folks doing their best/working towards it/seeing it as a journey/not being attacked for the occasional bit of honey in their Nan's teabread

Spottyparrot99 · 26/04/2017 19:08

Let me join! I want to be a vegan...I tried before and failed tbh. Cheese got me. That was a good 15 years back though. Looks like lots of new vegan foods out now! SP
