I do not feel bad for people who miss their flights or trains.

In general it is not hard at all to be on time. People miss flights or trains because of their own poor plannings, time management and irresponsibility.

when I travel by train from one city to another city far away, I see other travellers running to catch their trains. Sometimes they manage to make it onto their trains before they leave, a lot of time they miss them and they complain and throw a fit and sometimes even cry.

i always chuckle when I witness that because I know for sure that it is their fault. When I travel and I have a train or flight to catch I make sure to leave my house early to I can arrive early. At least 3 hours early. If I have a flight at 9 AM for example and the airline recommends me to be at the airport at 7 AM I am there at 6 AM. Of course I take myself to the airport so that nobody can dictate what I can and can’t do. I don’t let relatives take me to the airport anymore. I use uber or public transport.

the only time I’ve ever missed my flights or trains was when I travelled with older relatives. But ever since I started travelling solo, I never missed my flights or trains.

so when I am at the train stations or airport and I see people running, I feel 0 sympathy for them. They most likely loiter at home and decide to leave their homes close to the time of their departures.

Brilliant! Time for today’s round of AI Bot, Psychopath, or Troll?! It’s a good one, op, I really can’t tell which you are…

MsSmartShoes · 28/08/2025 17:17

You laugh at other peoples misfortune?

BashfulClam · 28/08/2025 17:17

My friend needs a taxi to get to her nearest train station.,first one didn’t turn up, then the next one took forever so she missed her train. Was she loitering at home?

Cattenberg · 28/08/2025 17:19

Climbingrosexx · 28/08/2025 17:16

What has happened to you that you get so much pleasure in other peoples misfortune? Must suck to be you

I used to have a colleague who enjoyed eating his lunch by an office window with a good view of the car park - so he could watch people getting parking tickets.

SardinesOnGingerbread · 28/08/2025 17:20

Last time that I cried when I missed a train was because my dad had just died unexpectedly and I was racing to get home as soon as possible. Silly really, because I knew he was already dead but I just wanted to be with my family. I didn't have a reservation, I just wanted to get on the first train heading south. I literally touched the doors as they were closing. I sat on the platform and cried so hard I couldn't speak when very kind people tried to help me. I bet you'd have enjoyed that.

If only I'd planned for that better.

Noname973 · 28/08/2025 17:21

i am always mega early for trains / planes / appointments as it helps me manage my stress levels. I always marvel at people who can rock up just on time… I have missed connections both flight and train tho. Was ok as was a lone traveller.

Have to say I’ve never laughed at someone missing a train / plane or someone crying (because I’m not an arse hole!)

Do not care. Solo travel is much more enjoyable then travelling with other people who are poor
planners and who loiter around.

Ok, so you not caring about these experiences outside of your own point of view is a theme, fair enough. What makes you care enough to want have a conversation with eveyone here about it though? Is it to change people's minds, make them feel inadequate, or something else?

BBQthisweekend · 28/08/2025 17:22

On the flip side of this, I do occasionally miss a train or plane due to circumstances outside of my control that COULD be fixed by getting somewhere 3 hours early. However I’m a busy parent, juggling a lot of life, and I’ll take the risk that every 30 journeys or so I might miss a train or flight and need to get a later one, in exchange for hours more every time that I’d get to spend with my son.

MushMonster · 28/08/2025 17:23

Surely it is relative.
I am not bothered about people who left the house late.
But there are so many scenarios where is not the passengers fault: delayed connections, broken car, emergency that got in the way ( like having to drop someone in the hospital, ambulance or fire brigade on the way, roads closed), being parked in by a stupid driver is another one. Road works they were not aware of.
I do feel sorry for those.

That’s fine. But it’s the glee and smugness you’re displaying in your perceived superiority of other people that’s being reacted against here. There’s just no need and it’s interesting that you think other people will react favourably towards it.

FrogFalacy · 28/08/2025 17:23

If I felt like this I’d be wondering why I took such pleasure in other’s misfortune and spend time thinking about what that meant about me as a person…

The times I have run for a train or bus is because my connection was late, or I’d seen online my trains were all being cancelled in work and had to bolt from my desk in hopes of getting anything so I could collect children on time. Time I ran for a flight is because they said it was delayed for 2 hours and then decided it wasn’t! When I see other people running I feel only a hope they can get where they’re going on time.

The OP chose the wrong username.

Should have gone for "Schadenfreude"

I’m sorry, I’m glad people were kind to you.

pestowithwalnuts · 28/08/2025 17:25

And you laugh at people who get upset because they miss their train...?
What a horrible person you are

MoFadaCromulent · 28/08/2025 17:25

3 hours before a flight 😂😂
You square

SoftPillow · 28/08/2025 17:25

Well, when I see someone running for a train I wish them good luck and lots of speed, and when they make it I cheer internally. I extra cheer if the train driver has waited an extra 15 secs so they can make it.

My good spirit and wishes will hopefully cancel yours out which can only be a very good thing.

Ratafia · 28/08/2025 17:25

I use uber or public transport.

Good luck with Uber when there's an accident and a massive traffic jam n the motorway. Leaving two hours early may still not save you in that event.

Good luck also with public transport when there's a massive signalling problem or a derailed train causing long, long delays.

GonnaeNoDaeThatJustGonnaeNo · 28/08/2025 17:26

You are being an arsehole OP

there are lots of reasons people can be delayed and you have no idea what’s going on their lives or the consequences of missing their travel.

JHound · 28/08/2025 17:26

YAWN.🥱

Gingercatlover · 28/08/2025 17:26

Wow! Yes some people are disorganised and some
like us missed a train due to flight landing late.

We were at the airport four hours before the flight though.
You can’t just judge everyone as you do not know their individual circumstances.

Is that supposed to be an insult? “You do what you’re meant to do, square”

thatsgotit · 28/08/2025 17:28

Have a halo, OP. Did you just post to let us all know you're perfect, or was there any other reason?

MyTommyGunDont · 28/08/2025 17:29

I missed a train recently because the station is a 35 minute drive from my house, I left at 5:30 for a 7am train and still missed it because of traffic. It had nothing to do with dillying at home (unless you call getting bare minimum sleep dillying).

Ratafia · 28/08/2025 17:29

joseline · 28/08/2025 16:00

I never missed my connections either because I pick long layovers. Specially when I am flying. Minimum 3 to 5 hour layovers.

How does a long layover help you when the problem is train delays on the way to the airport?
