I do not feel bad for people who miss their flights or trains.

In general it is not hard at all to be on time. People miss flights or trains because of their own poor plannings, time management and irresponsibility.

when I travel by train from one city to another city far away, I see other travellers running to catch their trains. Sometimes they manage to make it onto their trains before they leave, a lot of time they miss them and they complain and throw a fit and sometimes even cry.

i always chuckle when I witness that because I know for sure that it is their fault. When I travel and I have a train or flight to catch I make sure to leave my house early to I can arrive early. At least 3 hours early. If I have a flight at 9 AM for example and the airline recommends me to be at the airport at 7 AM I am there at 6 AM. Of course I take myself to the airport so that nobody can dictate what I can and can’t do. I don’t let relatives take me to the airport anymore. I use uber or public transport.

the only time I’ve ever missed my flights or trains was when I travelled with older relatives. But ever since I started travelling solo, I never missed my flights or trains.

so when I am at the train stations or airport and I see people running, I feel 0 sympathy for them. They most likely loiter at home and decide to leave their homes close to the time of their departures.

Well done OP. You must be very proud.

The only time I can remember missing a train was mostly my fault. We left on plenty of time to get McDonald's on the way to the station. Only the "fast food" was actually very slow and we arrived on the platform as the train pulled out.

Other than that we did nearly mis a train years ago. There was 2 DC, both under 10 and me. Plus 3 suitcases. We had to change trains, but as we did this journey regularly we knew which platform we had to get to and that there was plenty of told to do it. Only the first train was delayed and we would have had about 2 mins to get across the station. The guard on train 1 phoned ahead and asked train 2 to wait a few mins. A very kind passenger who also needed to make that connection helped me by carrying a suitcase and holding on to one DC so we could run faster. (Obviously he asked first and didnt just grab my child!) That definitely wasn't my fault!

Do not care. Solo travel is much more enjoyable then travelling with other people who are poor
planners and who loiter around.

I imagine all these people you refuse to travel with, breathe a sigh of relief, get the party poppers out, and open a bottle of champagne once you've gone!

Your Do. Not. CARE. attitude makes you sound about 11. Are you looking forward to going to big school next week?

What a boring topic for a thread 😂

Gotta do something to while away those 3-5 hour layovers on a windswept unmanned platform!

JohnTheRevelator · 28/08/2025 16:55

You chuckle when you witness it? Nice. You have no idea why they may have been running late. I am a persistent early arriver myself,I hate being late for anything, and would rather be half an hour early than 20 minutes late. But even I have had circumstances beyond my control that have made me nearly miss a train,or be late for an appointment. Shit happens!

WiddlinDiddlin · 28/08/2025 16:56

So... you travel on your magic carpet everywhere, as thats the only way I can see you can guarantee you're never held up by an accident (we once spent SEVEN HOURS on the M6, on a journey that should have taken two and a half), never missing a connection, never ever impacted by someone elses fuck up.

Back in the days when I could travel - leaving my house an hour, two, three, earlier... would have made no odds, the first bus is the first bus, it left at 7.15, and me getting up 3 hours earlier, getting to the stop x hours earlier... would make fuck all difference.

I have little sympathy for those who leave at the very last second and just assume it will all work out.

That accounts for a tiny number of travellers in reality. The rest are suffering from circumstances beyond their control, as you will too one day.

I hope you catch sight of someone elses smug grin when you do!

Still waiting for you to explain how missing train connections due to trains being delayed can be avoided and why it’s funny. You know, the trains that you mentioned in your OP?

CatHairEveryWhereNow · 28/08/2025 16:56

DH had to run for a flight last work trip - first flight came in late and airline fucked up his luggage - his work booked all the travel - so wasn't a choice to have a longer lay over.

Trains last time we ran for a train - first train very late and we went to office for help finding next - as can't rememeber why it wasn't clear possibly strikes and delays - any way got out question they barked run now for platform x - train leaving in 5 minute else it 2 hour wait and another 2 changes - so we ran.

Time before that we were all sat on the train waiting - an hour later they admit train not moving but hurry to x platform as last train as with no publicity there was a signal strike starting at 7 that evening - and they'd be no later train - we all ran - got on train which sat there. In end we were last to make our stop - eveyone else trying to go further was stuck for the night.

As we do travel a lot with public transport we do tend to allow a lot of time - but even then there can be days where it's just stuck. I once was supposed to get to an interview 3 hours early - was anxious and though could look round the town - trains were complete fuck up (a suidice and an accident on another line ) - had to ring and aplogise was in end only 30 minutes late - did get the job as well.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 28/08/2025 16:57

I'm judging you girl 😭😭

Shit happens, sometimes there are delays out of your control

BrendaSmall · 28/08/2025 17:01

For all you know there could have been an unexpected accident/road closures whilst they were on their way, they may have left home with plenty of time to spare!!
judgemental much!!!

RaraRachael · 28/08/2025 17:01

You sound very smug OP. People can get held up on roads and trains en route to airports etc.
My friend was flying up to Scotland for hus mum's funeral. The train got held up for ages. By the time he got to the airport the gate had closed. Despite explaining why he was flying he wasn't allowed to board.

It's nice to think that you would have been sitting laughing 🙄

Natsku · 28/08/2025 17:02

I must admit I didn't feel bad for the time my brother missed his flight because he decided he had time to go to McDonalds on the way, when he had already only planned on arriving an hour before the flight.

JazbayGrapes · 28/08/2025 17:02

A few years ago i missed a flight because a bus broke down, next to me there was a woman who missed the same flight because her train was stuck for hours as somebody decided to commit suicide in front of it.

TulipCat · 28/08/2025 17:03

Given that people who are always late for personal appointments seem to be able to magically be on time for flights, I assume that if someone is rushing then most likely something happened on their way.

And personally I would rather miss the odd train than waste hours of my life on arriving stupidly early or having a "long layover" at boring train stations every time I travel.

All alone, yes?

Logged in solely to 👏 to this comment.

People who find joy in others misfortune are usually the most miserable of all. OP, I hope you find happiness one day.

CatHairEveryWhereNow · 28/08/2025 17:06

Year before last DH had a work trip - was supposed to get there a day early but nearest airport is tiny he got there early - in fact stayed night in local air b&b - went to air port flight cancelled next one not till tommorow same time - even traveling to larger airport that was next one - we looked as he was really keen to get there and he was lucky air b&B could let him have the room another night - usually they'd be completely booked up.

He got later flight and taxi from airport and ran for the boat that conference was on that evening - and just made it suitcase in hand as boat was about to pull out. He had to phone hotel to make sure his room would still be there.

Him being there early didn't stop flight being cancelled or the next flight being a whole 24 hours later.

I am sorry for your friend’s loss and for what happened to him, @RaraRachael. I hope it makes @joseline have a second thought before laughing at someone else’s misfortune, but I’m not optimistic.

What a stupid thing to say - things happen that passengers can't control which can cause them to be running late for their trains and planes
You've just been very fortunate not to be caught in a traffic jam caused by a car accident, a person jumping in front of a train, air traffic control strike, bad weather causing delays to transport amongst various other scenarios that cause delays to peoples plans.

You are not superior in your planning, you've just been lucky so far.

'the only time I’ve ever missed my flights or trains was when I travelled with older relatives.'

This is hilarious. Pesky older people slowing things down with their 'loitering at home' no doubt.

RubySquid · 28/08/2025 17:11

SoScarletItWas · 28/08/2025 15:42

Aren’t you clever! So unlike me, when the last time I had a 7am flight I got there at 3.30am (the airport didn’t even open properly til 4am and the police had to let us in), they didn’t tell anybody where to queue til 5am and we barely made it to the gate.

Chuckle away to your clever, superior self, though.

That's so bloody annoying when that happens. And they then open the check in desk late when you've been waiting

Neemie · 28/08/2025 17:12

If you add up all those extra hours hanging around airports and train stations, it doesn’t really seem worth it. You probably waste more time than the people who arrive late and have to catch the next train.

SaltAirAndTheRust · 28/08/2025 17:14

Me neither. It nearly happened to me last summer but that was purely down to my travel companion’s lack of planning. I decided then that if travelling with others, I’d be taking accountability for planning travel.

Cattenberg · 28/08/2025 17:16

I once missed check in for a flight because the coach to the airport city was delayed on the motorway for three hours. Then I got a taxi from the bus station to the airport, which was delayed by roadworks. I was lucky - easyJet eventually let me on the flight anyway, no doubt because I was only a bit late and I only had carry-on luggage.

Sometimes, shit happens!

Climbingrosexx · 28/08/2025 17:16

What has happened to you that you get so much pleasure in other peoples misfortune? Must suck to be you
