I do not feel bad for people who miss their flights or trains.

In general it is not hard at all to be on time. People miss flights or trains because of their own poor plannings, time management and irresponsibility.

when I travel by train from one city to another city far away, I see other travellers running to catch their trains. Sometimes they manage to make it onto their trains before they leave, a lot of time they miss them and they complain and throw a fit and sometimes even cry.

i always chuckle when I witness that because I know for sure that it is their fault. When I travel and I have a train or flight to catch I make sure to leave my house early to I can arrive early. At least 3 hours early. If I have a flight at 9 AM for example and the airline recommends me to be at the airport at 7 AM I am there at 6 AM. Of course I take myself to the airport so that nobody can dictate what I can and can’t do. I don’t let relatives take me to the airport anymore. I use uber or public transport.

the only time I’ve ever missed my flights or trains was when I travelled with older relatives. But ever since I started travelling solo, I never missed my flights or trains.

so when I am at the train stations or airport and I see people running, I feel 0 sympathy for them. They most likely loiter at home and decide to leave their homes close to the time of their departures.

We arrived 3.5 hours early for a flight, cleared security, had booked ourselves into a lounge for a leisurely lunch.

My wife is dyslexic she mis-read the gate number when our flight was called. Foolishly, I did not double check.

We went to the wrong side of the airport. It was impossible to get back to the other side in time. We had to watch them unload our baggage from our flight after the gate closed.

People are people, we're not perfect. We make mistakes. And one day you will too.

Booboobagins · 29/08/2025 19:58

Wow, what a. piece of work, laughing at others. Karma's a bitch you know...!

Cherryicecreamx · 29/08/2025 20:04

I get the whole "just leave extra early thing" but life just happens sometimes. I just missed my flight when someone had jumped in front of the train on my route there. There could be an accident on the road which causes major delays. I've had Uber cancel on me multiple times last minute and have found it tricky getting a ride. I've ended up in the wrong airport car park figuring out what I was doing. Soo many factors. So yes leave early to prepare for things like this happening but it's not always avoidable. I also think there is a point where you can leave too early. No I do not want to be sat in an airport for 5 hours every time I take a flight because of extreme anxiety of missing it.

Umbrella15 · 29/08/2025 20:07

Op, you sound like a right misery guts who has plenty of time on their hands compared to others and who lives in a fantasy world. Answer me this, how am I meant to leave work early to ensure that I am at the train station with plenty of time to catch my train, when I havent got the option to come into work earlier so I can leave earlier, or what happens if I have a busy day at work and I leave late as a result because guess what, shit happens that you cant control. Im glad you arent my friend or family member, and I bet at some point in you life, you also have missed a train, and if you say you havent, I wont believe you.

Hakunatomato · 29/08/2025 20:13

Try missing your flight due to a fatal crash on the motorway, and as a result missing the flight that would take you to your sisters funeral. And there is a smug nasty CUNT ‘chuckling’ because you are crying. And then they have to write a provocative post on an online forum because they don’t get any attention in real life. Even anger from those they are upsetting is attention for them that they never normally get. I actually feel quite sorry for you OP. I am blessed that I don’t have to behave in such a way to get people to notice me. I wish you all the best and hope you get help with your mental illness.

I have lateness anxiety and am quite often INCREDIBLY early for trains and flights. But, you know what? This is actually very unpleasant, it disrupts my life and, while I might not miss a flight or train, I envy those who don't end up spending four hours on a freezing train platform with nothing but a Star Bar and an expensive coffee.

Same. Turned up 45 minutes early yesterday for my train. It had been cancelled and I was put on the next one

MadKittenWoman · 29/08/2025 20:33

We had a blow-out on the motorway from Italy to Nice Côte d’Azur airport. We missed the flight check-in time but luckily the plane was late. Not our faul!

Airspice · 29/08/2025 20:37

What a self righteous nasty person you are

Beansmom2983 · 29/08/2025 20:47

All that time you’ve got to spend loitering around airports and train stations, is why you were bored enough to come on here thinking you’re better than everyone else. Get a life.
p.s I hope you miss your next train 😘

Custardcream24 · 29/08/2025 20:50

What a narrow minded view you have op. I almost missed a flight due to a fatal crash right outside the airport. Things happen that are not always in our control.

Pinkpommebear · 29/08/2025 20:58

Well done for being such a wonderfully well planned person.

BlackSheepThisYear · 29/08/2025 20:59

Don’t be a dick OP

Pinkpommebear · 29/08/2025 21:00

Absolutely best thing anyone could have said on this thread. ❣️

OneKhakiFish · 29/08/2025 21:02

Bored!

That’s why I pick long layovers

Layovers? Are you American? Surely you mean stopovers, which is the British term. In any case, I am glad that you are so perfect. Meanwhile, back to the real world where not everything runs to plan.

I've honestly never seen such a smug, unpleasant, less empathic person ever on here - and I've read a lot - which leads me to believe this is purely fiction. No one is that moronic. Haven't read past the OP as dont think this is real.

Passenger42 · 29/08/2025 21:15

Even if you plan ahead you cannot plan for delays for connections. I came back from Cyprus this week and our baggage came off late from the flight and the lady next to me had to run to try to catch the shuttle bus at 4am to get to the train station. If she had missed that bus it would have set her back hours. It was not our fault that it took an hour for our bags to come off. I was so glad I was driving I felt to sorry for her as she had given herself plenty of time under normal circumstances. You sound very hard faced, people can miss flights and trains due to car breakdowns and traffic accidents, we do

limegreenheart · 29/08/2025 21:19

I feel sorry for them, but that is because I am an experienced traveller (yes, solo - no inconvenient old people here) and understand that things can go wrong. Of fucking COURSE if you're perfect, introducing another person into the scenario increases the risk of something going wrong; the reason that people still do this despite the risk is because they want to travel with someone else.

Of course I take myself to the airport so that nobody can dictate what I can and can’t do. I don’t let relatives take me to the airport anymore. I use uber or public transport. OK, and in what utopian country do you live that these services are infallible?

I'm an early person too but what a ridiculous post. I saw an article earlier where someone walked along the motorway hard shoulder with their suitcases as the motorway was at a standstill. I'm going on my first solo holiday this year and hope I don't run into people like you 🤣.

CarefulN0w · 29/08/2025 21:40

joseline · 28/08/2025 16:37

it wasn’t one slip up. Every time I’ve travelled with relatives we had to run for our flights due to their poor planning.

You travel with relatives not friends then.

LizzieW1969 · 29/08/2025 21:45

It’s impossible to account for everything when travelling to the airport. Motorway closed because of a car accident for example. Train being cancelled. Stuff happens. Yes, sometimes it might be down to a lack of organisation. But you won’t know either way!

Personally, I find the OP’s attitude intolerably smug and judgemental.

Speckly · 29/08/2025 22:38

Well aren’t you a paragon of virtue!
It’s not always the fault of the person themselves but unexpected accidents, closures or changes. You can’t always account for these, even leaving an extra hour or two early. To say you chuckle when you say this is very telling of your personality… Look up the word empathy in the dictionary and maybe try to be a nicer person!

Endorewitch · 29/08/2025 22:41

Where do you live?not near m25 I surmise. There are daily traffic accidents ,holdups train cancellations ,taxis turning up late to name just a few unforseen circumstances. And train and plane connections running late.
You must allow an extra 3 hours at least on top of normal calculations.
I once was late for a flight because the carer for my dog was late picking her up . She only lived 16 mins away but a road diversion appeared with no warning.
You sound very judgemental and self satisfied.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 29/08/2025 23:36

I once missed a train because the 90 minutes I’d allowed to make a 45 minute journey was not enough when it turned out the underground was not running.
