Looking to book an airbnb in a town for DDs birthday, any suggestions.

Harrogate

MyIvyGrows · 25/03/2025 05:34

Skipton or Harrogate.

Slightly further but plenty of Lake District towns are nice - Grasmere is my favourite. Whitby or Scarborough also slightly further, but get the fast train to York then it’s only an hour to Scarborough.

IndieRar · 25/03/2025 05:37

Pately Bridge in Nidderdale

AwakeThruTheNight · 25/03/2025 05:47

Malton, Helmsley, Whitby for the seaside.

The others are too close, Harrogate is on my ten miles from the top end of Leeds.

countingthedays945 · 25/03/2025 05:48

Helmsley - 1hr 4 mins so slightly over

Aposterhasnoname · 25/03/2025 05:54

York, Knaresbourgh, Haworth, Ilkley.

Funf · 01/04/2025 07:39

Liverpool, it has it all, great compact city, loads to see and do for all budgets

Reetpetitenot · 01/04/2025 07:42

Thirsk, Northallerton, Skipton, Easingwold, Beverly.

BigDahliaFan · 01/04/2025 08:37

Liverpool. If they want a bit of city.

Ayeayeaye25 · 01/04/2025 08:41

Beverley or Harrogate.

Violetparis · 01/04/2025 08:45

Haworth, Skipton, Hebden Bridge

TheStigarette · 01/04/2025 08:46

York

PontiacFirebird · 01/04/2025 08:50

I’m giggling at someone suggesting sending a 20something couple to Northallerton for a birthday weekend 😁
OP do they like countryside stuff or urban? Do they drive?

CarrieOnComplaining · 01/04/2025 08:54

Newcastle (for city break)

MiddleAgedDread · 01/04/2025 14:19

what sort of town are you looking for? A big city with bars and nightlcubs or something sleep and rural with countryside walks on the doorstep? There's quite a big difference between Grasmere and Newcastle and an hour doesn't get you far! Hour by car or train?

sashh · 01/04/2025 14:42

Nice towns can mean different things to different people. What do they actually want? Nightlife? Countryside? Museums? History?

Galliano · 01/04/2025 14:42

I’d book Manchester, Liverpool or Newcastle as short commute from Leeds cities. Sheffield is also an option but maybe a bit less to do. Even though it’s just over 2 hrs by train pretty sure my DC would prefer London if I was paying.

Same. A weekend in Beverley? 🤣

If they’re in their 20’s then treat them to a night out in Leeds. Plenty to do there.

garlictwist · 01/04/2025 16:20

Settle? Richmond? Hope? Hawes? Hebden Bridge?

Hoppinggreen · 01/04/2025 16:23

Depends what they are into
Chilling out, nice food, shopping - York, Harrogate
Nightlife - Liverpool, Manchester

Why? Every time I go to Northallerton it's full of twenty somethings, especially if it's a fine day, sitting outside drinking coffee or cocktails, mooching round the shops, having lunch. Nice cinema - my 20 something nephew and his girlfriend love a visit to the Everyman cinema - they consider it a real treat.

The OP asked for suggestions for towns, not cities - it looks as if they may live in Leeds so after something different to a city break. Not all 20 somethings want to spend their weekends clubbing.

Imtoooldforallthis · 07/04/2025 15:32

Still looking fir ideas, we live between leeds and York so not either of them or Beverley. I'm thinking Ripon or Thirsk maybe, or Richmond. They've done Hebden Bridge and absolutely loved it so something along those lines.

Harrogate?
Or go costal and do Whitby

AwakeThruTheNight · 10/04/2025 06:18

What do they actually enjoy doing OP, that’s key.

I lived near Ripon for a few years, it is a great place. If they just want a lovely walk - you can walk to Fountains Abbey in about 30-40 mins, nice food in the evening, trip to somewhere like Newby Hall, concert at the Cathedral, drive up the dales, independent shops, it is great.

If they would find that mind numbing it wouldn’t be great for them.

LittleMy77 · 10/04/2025 06:43

Helmsley? nice small town, good places to eat, has a brewery, good walking (if they’re into that) and has an outdoor pool in the summer. lots of nice upmarket boutique type hotel / guest houses
