Is £230 enough spending money to go to Cornwall for 5 days?

Going to Cornwall for Feb half term. Booked a lovely caravan which was very cheap owing it to it still being out of season. Going to St Ives.

Everything is booked and paid for, including all activities. Over the last 6 months i have been booking things slowly. Biggest expense really will be a food shop and petrol (I need to pay for return journey petrol from this money too).
Should that be enough?

Ah. We miss Cornwall so much.

We've booked up to go to St Ives again next February half term. Got a discount for booking up again.. managed to get 5 nights for under £200.

We have 7 days there also next Easter (all paid for now) so will get to go twice next year.

Definitely have the Cornwall bug!!

This is great to hear op and excellent budgeting! I'm sure your dd has had a fabulous half term x

Money, no matter how much or little, fades in comparison against the great memories you both will always have.
Thanks for a lovely heart-warming thread. x

This has been the nicest and most positive thread I've ever read on MN. I genuinely feel uplifted from reading it and learning what a fantastic time you and your DD had. You are also giving her the best memories to look back on when she grows up. What a lovely relationship you both have. The only tricky thing for next year's trip is how to make it even better!
Thank you for sharing - It's made me feel quite emotional (in a very positive way!)

I genuinely didn't expect to have lifted so many people's spirits, I feel really touched and it's so heartwarming and the comments have been so lovely. Just wanted to give my daughter a little holiday and I'm so happy it turned out the way it did. We both miss Cornwall and being on holiday so much. We made such beautiful memories. One in particular is at the Panto on Tuesday night, the ugly sisters shouted out "look at all these grubby little children" DD then shouted out very proudly "you're grubby".. the whole theatre collapsed in laughter 😃! I cried 😅😅😅.. little did we know the ugly sisters had water pistols....

They got us! 😅😅.

Still laugh about it now.

If you and your daughter would like to visit some castles in Cornwall next time you visit then do consider getting Cornwall Heritage Trust membership. It gives you free entry for a year to all the English Heritage sites in Cornwall (Tintagel, Pendennis Castle, St Mawes Castle, Restormel Castle, Launceston Castle, Chysauster Ancient Village) and 50% off entry to some other attractions. Pendennis castle does special events like jousting which are great (charged extra) and CHT membership gets you a percentage off of those too, (60% I think, off the top of my head).

Memberships costs £20 for a one adult family which is less than entry into Tintagel alone, it's really great value, I recommend it to everyone I can.

I wonder if MN has can keep a count of the reactions to threads. This one must be a winner.

OP, I realized I stayed in the same park 2 years ago 🙂

It was absolutely lovely. Cannot fault it. Even though nothing was open it was still beautiful going for walks and seeing rabbits hopping around. I loved the fact we were on the beach.

I can not wait for next years instalment. This thread should go into Mumsnet Classics.

@FormerlySpeckledyHen , I've 'reported' it as deserving recognition for being uplifting etc. Big thanks to Pip from MNHQ for the nice reply.

I'm not sure how threads get nominated for Classics, but I have "reported" it and asked for it to be considered just because it's such a lovely uplifting testament to how much you love your daughter.

MascalPascal · 22/02/2025 22:17

I will definitely be doing some of the wonderful suggestions on places to visit for next year's trip. 😊

Thank you xx
I just wanted her to have a lovely time. She was so sad to leave Cornwall on Thursday and keeps saying she wishes we were still on holiday so I know she had a lovely time.

I've made some beautiful memories with her. Walking on the beautiful beach holding her little hand when it was early morning and quiet will forever stay with me. It was just a lovely moment where there were no cares or worries and I can still see her little face beaming at me xx

This is such a lovely thread to read! How fantastic that you and your daughter have made these wonderful memories, I bet you have had an amazing time. Your little girl will remember this and all the things you have done to give her a brilliant holiday. I'm so pleased it has gone so well for you both and you have another one to look forward to next year

Starsandall · 23/02/2025 15:31

I think your post has shown that when children are young they are appreciative of time well spent instead of money. Holidays abroad are not essential. I did similar to you when mine were young and we were always sad to go home! Well done op I hope you enjoy spending the spare £10!

I had a little break with my son last year that was like this, when we got back I got a little photo book made (just on a cheap offer) "mummy and son's trip" and wrote things like "we went here and we.laughed about x,y,z in it". He loves it and reads it regularly because he'd probably have been too young to remember it fully in a few years.

What a good idea. Worth investigating OP
