Hi. We’re going on holiday near Helmsley in Yorkshire this summer. Looking for things to do with a 15 year old and 13 year old. We will have the dog in tow too. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks

Open air swimming pool.
North Yorkshire water park (would be 45 min drive)
Helmsley castle.
Walk from Helmsley to rievaulx abbey (path at back of long stay car park)
Duncombe park
Go ape at Dalby
Biking at Dalby

All the above plus maybe visit Nunnington (NT), York for the day, flamingo land if you can bear it (I can’t but teens can!) Scarborough for trad seaside fun

Scarborough Fair Collection and Vintage Transport Museum in Scarborough ( would you beleive😀)
It's privately owned and has vintage fairground rides i.e. dodgems, cake walk, gallopers, ghost train. Lots of vintage lorries vans and cars. It isn't massive but good for a half day trip.

TopHat6 · 14/06/2023 20:42

wizzler That looks amazing. It’s definitely going on my wish list 😀

Also if you want an absolutely amazing meal try the Kings Head at Kirby Moorside which is really close, it's pub food on a different level!

It’s worth getting English heritage or whatever it’s called now membership because there’s a few places around. rievaulx Helmsley Pickering mount grace, Whitby Scarborough
sutton bank is good for walks
ryedale folk museum
dalby forest
xastle howard
eden camp
Danby moors centre
the local market towns. Helmsley Kirkbymoorside Malton Pickering thirsk
seaside Scarborough which has a couple of good free museums and Filey and Whitby. The coastliner buses are running the £2 fare offer as well.

just be aware that Helmsley only has a small coop as does kirkbymoorside. Pickering has a larger coop and lidl and Malton has a Morrisons asda lidl and sainsbury. Tesco is at thirsk. None of them are huge stores and if the wagon hasn’t been to the coop for a couple of days there’ll be big gaps zone the shelf! I used to work in the tourist sector and people were always getting upset at the size of the supermarkets.

Ebananascroogey Great. It’s on the list 😀
