Llandudno

Hello All

I have looked and looked but cannot seem to find out so posting here
A weekend break to Llandudno is booked and we are staying at County Hotel.
DM will be almost 80 and I cannot see any bus route from the Hotel to the Pier and onwards (Cable Car mainly), Don't mind a slow stroll back again if not too far.
Is there a bus that stops along the front ?
DM will get us a cab if not but thought I would check it out first.
TIA

Think you will need a taxi I don't recall any buses along the promenade. I think there may be a land train but not sure of its route.

sighsloudly · 29/03/2023 18:00

Looks like the land train has closed down.

We are going on a tour so based in Llandudno (we could have a day at leisure there on one of the days but we want to go on the optional trip to Angelsey) and plan to try to do some things between tour ends and dinner etc.

Might not be doable at all but I will tell DM a Taxi will be best.

@sighsloudly , that's a shame :(
Hopefully the cable cars are running as would love to ride in one of those.

DM is celebrating her 80th in Stages :) and this is a treat for Her, Me and DD.

Been to Wales before, many a happy 1970s Summer holiday spent there, but we were more the Borth area when we stayed.
Just dawned on me that when we see the Welcome to Wales sign, it will have been 47 YEARS since we last saw it. Time flies.

There are no buses along the prom but run parallel on Mostyn Street. The hotel will tell you but you can go from the County to the bus stop and catch the No 12 or get a taxi. To walk to the Pier would be about 20 minutes.
The best Fish and Chips are only a 2 min from the County Hotel - Chish n Fips.
The road train has started again and runs from the Pier to the West Shore. The red tourist hop on and off bus runs from the Pier to Conwy and back and the Vintage bus runs from the Pier around the Great Orme.

Carpediem15 · 09/04/2023 21:36

An edit - if you have an English bus pass you can use it to get a discount on local buses, not free but cheaper.

Thank You so much.

DM has a bus pass so I will get her to bring hers with Her.

Looks like we will be getting a few buses as we want to visit Conwy as well and the Great Orme vintage bus we will get too,,

We are going on a coach holiday . Day 2 Snowdonia and Day 3 either at leisure in Llandudno or a trip to Anglesey but as we have not been to Llandudno we will do that on the last day.

You are better doing Llandudno than Anglesey if you only have 1 day. You can go to Conwy on the 5 buses but again they go from near the pier and in August are quite busy.
The only time the cable car doesn't run is if it is too windy - again we are talking about having to go to the Pier area to catch it.
I presume you are holidaying with Shearings - we do their hols but go the other way. 😀
Enjoy North Wales

Yes, its Shearings.

DM and my DA went on one of their trips a few years ago but they went to Bournemouth (from Kent).

I will be sure to enjoy it. Really looking forward to it as been too long since I went to Wales. I have 3% Welsh DNA I discovered too but not surprising really as a great grandad had the surname of Morgan.

I was just wondering re the bus that takes you to Conwy and back is pre bookable or is it ok to purchase on the day?
TIA

I feel the best way to get to Conwy is via the Toll road I think the vintage bus goes that way but I can't see it being much in a Taxi its not far, the views from the toll road are spectacular

Local Arriva buses go to Conwy - 5's - and you just get on and buy a ticket. You can get a day ticket which is about £6 and a small discount with an English bus pass.

Trinity65 · 19/04/2023 21:13

Great stuff

Think it will be a taxi or the number 5.

Thanks

Conwy is a lovely little town - lots of little touristy and foodie shops . However, it is quite hilly and the pavements are quite narrow and busy . I was wondering how suitable it would be for your mum if she has difficulty walking . Llandudno is very much on the flat .

There is no toll road to Conwy, there is one round the Great Orme but that is only at the top of the town, nowhere near Conwy.

Aww Thank You

DM will be ok as she has been doing lots of walks of various terrain. She liked walking before her OP and now does miles.
It will be struggling more than likely. 😆

@Trinity65 My point is if you travel from Llandudno to Conwy and can go via the Toll road is well worth seeing and not much of a detour

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 20/04/2023 10:17

Ah OK @Trinity65 - in that case she may be fine to walk along the prom from your hotel to the pier. From memory your hotel is around half way along but it's all on the flat. I think, but I'm not quite sure, that there is both a little train (funicular) and cable car that go up the great Orme - one from around the back and one from gardens near the pier but that is quite a steep walk to the cable car station .
