Great question I'm hoping to also find out the answer to. Commenting on the hope it bumps the post.

Either The Milehouse or The Slamwich Club, depending on what kind of meal you’re after.

20viona · 02/10/2022 16:13

Definitely not the Milehouse. The swan with two necks, the wayfarer or the hand and trumpet or the crown Inn at betley is the best of the lot for me.

BG2015 · 06/10/2022 20:47

The Quarter is lovely, there's one in Hanley or Stoke city centre,

MrsMoggy · 06/10/2022 21:00

Also came on to recommend The Quarter in Hanley, lovely menu there and nice surroundings

ColinRobinsonsFart · 06/10/2022 21:10

Hand and Trumpet at Betley . It’s part of the Brunning and Price chain but the food is good and the pub is nice.

not sure what the Milehouse is these days (was buffet island) but my DH ( who is from the Milehouse estate) always says ‘I aren’t goin-nin theer duck’ when we are considering somewhere to eat.

Greenshake · 06/10/2022 21:13

Following with interest, I am in Stoke next week!

puffylovett · 06/10/2022 21:23

They’ve just opened a wagamamas in Hanley, that was fab.
Miller & Carter steakhouse gets good reviews.
for swank, try Pecks.
I heard the Milehiuse wasn’t that good.

if you want to go a bit further afield, we have a great eatery in Congleton - an old shopping precinct that’s been turned into an eating hall with lots of different options, Thai, burgers, Brazilian. Or we have Wild & Wild which is an amazing vegan cafe. or the Lion and Swan.

mug2018 · 06/10/2022 21:23

The Broughton
Sheet anchor

countdowntonap · 06/10/2022 21:43

Lunar if you want fine dining.

flapjackfairy · 06/10/2022 21:53

trentham gardens has lots of different places to eat and lovely shops to browse and gardens to walk.
Upper house at Barlaston is v good as well.

FredaFox · 06/10/2022 21:54

Guess it depends where in stoke you are going but Newcastle under Lyme side of the city
Miller and carter
parogongroup.co.uk/ I like them all bar orange tree but broughton, blockhouse, swan with two necks I go when I visit my family
Hand and trumpet
I don't know Hanley side anymore but can't imagine there's much to go at

flapjackfairy · 06/10/2022 21:56

ooh and the Quarter in the middle of Stoke has great food and is v popular .
And for afternoon tea there is the Down the rabbit hole ( think thats the name). Just won best afternoon tea in staffirdshire award .

coronafiona · 06/10/2022 21:56

There is a nice one at trentham gardens can't remember name though

PrincessofWales · 06/10/2022 21:59

SOT is the worst place I’ve ever been in all my years. I would seriously doubt it has any nice restaurants. It has very few nice people that’s for sure!

flapjackfairy · 06/10/2022 22:20

@PrincessofWales
Well you would be v wrong. Some v nice and even award winning restaurants.
And as for people well you reap what you sow there.
So insulting a whole city of people says more about you than if does about anything else.

UnityO · 06/10/2022 22:36

Thank you - this is all very helpful!

Mykittensmittens · 06/10/2022 22:45

Stoke is a big sprawling place without one defined centre so it does really depend where you mean OP, and whether you have transport or are just in one of the centres.

if you want to specify we can help more.

playing it safe I would head to Trentham Gardens as there are several places to eat in there, all of which are very nice (willow being my favourite)

UnityO · 06/10/2022 22:55

We'll be in Hanley.

OP posts:
flapjackfairy · 07/10/2022 06:44

well Hanley really isnt the best to be perfectly honest. There is a cinema complex there though which has restaurants . But the museum end of Hanley has a restaurant called the Quarter which I can highly recommend. in fact the area around the regent theatre has several nice restaurants and is only a cockstride ( local saying there ) from Hanley. Also the museum is an award winning one and is great for a free wander esp if you like ceramics and has a cafe that is good value as well.

Mykittensmittens · 07/10/2022 09:27

Oh yes well in Hanley go to the quarter!!

and do pop into the museum as said above - the shop is lovely and you can go and see some of the famous Staffordshire Hoard.

20viona · 07/10/2022 11:14

@PrincessofWales pathetic remark.

Chaotica · 07/10/2022 11:25

How about Indian food? Mirchi is excellent. There are quite a few other good places too. (There was also a good Turkish place but I think the pandemic killed it off.) There is also an Afghani place - Hawasana - which I keep meaning to try.

UnityO · 07/10/2022 13:08

Thank you! I've booked the Quarter, looks great.

OP posts:
flapjackfairy · 07/10/2022 14:39

@UnityO
just meant to add there are 2 Quarters so make sure you have booked the one in Hanley and not the Potbank one which is in Stoke itself.
