We have got two child free nights away in Cornwall next month. My DH and I love eating out. Would love to hear which restaurants you’ve loved and would recommend.

Cornwall is quite massive…any particular part? Have you chosen a hotel?

Prawn on the lawn in st Ives
Also I like Rick stiens planes in padstow
Watergate Bay is my favourite hotel,

theladywiththerainbowhair · 05/04/2022 23:22

Lewinnick Lodge in Newquay is stunning x

Akushla123 · 06/04/2022 00:27

Second Prawn on the Lawn - could recommend more!

Fivemoreminutes1 · 06/04/2022 05:06

Gnarly Food www.gnarlyfood.co.uk
Star and Garter in Falmouth
Watering Hole

Nathan Outlaw's. Hands down best meal out I've had. He has a smaller place which was great for lunch but his main restaurant was amazing.

ittakes2 · 06/04/2022 05:36

Great thread thank you - hope you enjoy Cornwall

ILOVEALLCAKES · 06/04/2022 23:10

@Bunce1 - thank you.
No particular part, we’re fairly local and willing to travel so no place too far.
I didn’t realise PoTL was in St Ives now too, I’ll check it out.
We love Watergate Bay Hotel too. Have decided not to stay there this time, will book our hotel once we’ve decided on restaurants,

@Theregoesmyhomebirth - Nathan Outlaws place is on my list! I’m pleased to hear you’d highly recommend it.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Porthminster Beach Cafe in St Ives yet www.porthminstercafe.co.uk/the-restaurant/

Theregoesmyhomebirth · 07/04/2022 06:53

@ILOVEALLCAKES Get extra bread.... you will need it for dipping in the sauce Grin

LaPampa · 07/04/2022 13:45

There's no prawn on the lawn in st Ives. The second location is on a farm just outside padstow.

Fancy restaurant wise I'd recommend ugly butterfly at Carbis bay (proper fine dining with prices to match though, great wine list) or Emily Scott at watergate bay plus Nathan outlaw. Coombeshead farm is also excellent but on the meat heavy end of things.

For small plates I rate the rocket store in boscastle, plus PoTL in padstow, new yard pantry nr Helston and Argoe in newlyn.

If you want St Ives, one fish st is supposed to be good (set menu). On a seafood theme the fish house in Newquay is also good.

ILOVEALLCAKES · 08/04/2022 07:48

@LaPampa - thank you for your recommendations! I’ve not heard of some of those, I’m off to check them out.

North Street Kitchen and Fitzroy, both in Fowey

The longstore in Charlestown and the sharksfin in Mevagissey (more casual)

The hidden hut, Portscatho, for lunch on the beach (nice takeaway)

Canteen in st agnes (v casual)

Wincher · 08/04/2022 08:06

Not entirely what you’re asking for, but for a child-free blissful break I highly recommend The Scarlet in Mawgan Porth. Amazing food, but the restaurant is only open to hotel guests. Fantastic views and spa too!

kotarestaurant.co.uk/ Had a lovely dinner in kota porthleven. One of those you remember.

Xiaoxiong · 08/04/2022 08:14

PS I would make no claims for any of those to be the best in cornwall! But we have had a lovely time at all of them

The Fish House at Fistral.
Hooked on the Rocks in Falmouth.

I concur about the Scarlet, although I have only ever been on a spa day there and not to the restaurant.

goodjoujou · 08/04/2022 21:00

Talay Thai Kitchen St Ives fabulous fresh flavors. The green papaya salad and the curries

soundsgreektome · 08/04/2022 21:08

MrsDanversBroom · 10/04/2022 20:23

barnabyspadstow.com/ Is great

prawnonthelawn.com/restaurant/padstow/ Is even better

www.driftwoodhotel.co.uk/ But I haven’t eaten there since the new chef, they used to have a Michelin star but I’m not sure they do now

www.hookedontherocksfalmouth.com/ is great, fab views

We didn’t rate the food atThe Scarlett at all.

cjpark · 11/04/2022 16:17

Cafe Rojano in Padstow is lovely - another Nathan Outlaw restaurant but very casual.

LaPampa · 11/04/2022 22:26

Caffe Rojano in Padstow is Paul Ainsworth's more casual place. It's Italian-ish.

Both Nathan outlaw's places are in Port Isaac.

Isseywith3witchycats · 13/04/2022 19:08

we went to one called the water wheel half way between hayle and st ives the food was fabulous and reasonably priced

MrsMigginsCat · 13/04/2022 19:11

The Stepping Stone in Wadebridge. Hidden gem!
