I stayed in a uk B&B last night which I booked for 4 nights. Can I leave after one night and get my money back?

Just that really, the hotel is noisy and a bit tatty, but not cheap. It looked much nicer on photos and booking said we had a sea view but we're looking at the back of other properties and bins. I've paid £360 for 4 nights but just want to leave and find somewhere else. Is it ok to ask for my money back and what are the chances they'll give it?

@CeeceeBloomingdale a cottage by the sea for £250 sounds a bargain. Where is it - I'm desperate for a seaside break!

KaleWhale · 28/08/2020 10:02

@CottonEyeJo That isn't what is happening though according to the OP and that's not what my post is suggesting either.

I specifically mentioned ill-advertised products. Would you be happy if you brought a pair of jeans off the internet that were blue in the photograph and product description yet arrived bright pink and two sizes too small? I doubt it.

A beautiful holiday cottage for four people with a sea view over a Bank Holiday weekend — £250? Please provide a link, I want to book it for next year.

I have a friend who lives about a mile away from the Pembrokeshire coast. She has a small, modern two-bedroomed house on a small estate — pleasant enough but nothing special — and to try and make back some of the money she's lost because of Covid-19 she's moved into a friend's and is letting her place for £150 a night/ £900 a week. No sea view. She's been booked out for weeks. September is fully booked too — at the same price.

'Pipes clanging in the morning when everyone showers is pretty standard I would disagree! I guess it depends where you are staying but this wouldn't be acceptable IMO.'

I agree it depends where you are staying and in this instance she is staying in a £90 a night b&b in August. It's not a hotel. OP hasn't replied about the reviews or how many stars it has.

simba65 · 28/08/2020 10:09

if it's not as described you can 100% get your money back.

I booked with Booking.com (AVOID THE BOOKING HOLDINGS GROUP THEY ARE AWFUL) and I had booked a chalet in France, it was double booked so they put me in a 5* hotel. It was not the same product as what I had bought so I got the whole thing refunded through my credit card without argument.

Op what do the terms and conditions say that you agreed to in terms of cancellation and refunds?

I would assume this is what they will apply.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 28/08/2020 10:29

I'm not linking while I'm still here for security reasons. I didn't say it had a sea view, it's near the sea. It was through airbnb and is in Scotland (where it isn't a BH weekend but prices usually still reflect it is)

Lilyargin · 28/08/2020 10:30

Sorry! Wrong place! Blush

doodleygirl · 28/08/2020 10:45

I bloody hate this, you do your research, check out reviews, arrive and they give you the shittiest room without the amenities that you expected.

I would expect a sea view if that is what I had paid for.

notalwaysalondoner · 28/08/2020 11:11

I’d talk to the owner and if they won’t find a solution, call booking.com. I had a similar situation with a hotel in Uganda we left after one night instead of three and once we’d complained so much to the owner that she agreed we could leave, they were good at refunding us. I think they did need the owner’s consent for the refund though.

KimMarie34 · 28/08/2020 11:21

If up paid by credit card then yes, you can get a refund (section 75 of the credit act).

Try and sort it out with the hotel, as to get a refund you need to show you've done this first - if it's not as described then this is covered by the consumer rights act 2015. The hotel have one opportunity to put things right. If not, then push for a refund.

baubled · 28/08/2020 11:25

If it's Blackpool you've definitely not got this big bargain that a few have been throwing out

Aridane · 28/08/2020 12:09

As it’s clean the only thing you can really complain about is not having a sea view.

Er - which is pretty fundamental when you’ve booked a sea view room at the seaside 😂

All of which is very interesting - and totally irrelevant to OP’s position. Which is quite simple - that she hasn’t been given what she paid for

Elmo230885 · 28/08/2020 12:23

The OP hasn't actually specified if she paid extra for a sea view or if the b&b was just advertised as some rooms having a sea view

Aridane · 28/08/2020 12:28

Yes, she has. It’s in the First post: “booking said we had a sea view“

Whether she paid extra for the sea view room is irrelevant - the room is not as described

Elmo230885 · 28/08/2020 12:43

Oops miss read that. In my head I read it as b&b offered sea views.

Elmo230885 · 30/08/2020 13:00

Did you stay OP?

lifestooshort123 · 31/08/2020 07:59

Always a bit irritating when the OP buggers off leaving the outcome in the air

Standrewsschool · 31/08/2020 08:05

If your booking specifically mentions sea view view, then the B and B should move you to a room with a view.

I don’t think the pipes or tattiness are a reason for a refund.

Cheetahfajita · 31/08/2020 08:18

I hope you've been moved to a better room now.

ulanbatorismynextstop · 31/08/2020 21:02

Hi sorry for buggering off. My iPhone went black, I couldn't turn it on, had to go to apple store to get it fixed.

I asked to be moved to a room with a sea view, they said my room has a sea view. It's true if you stand on the windowsill you can sea a slither of sea between 2 buildings. All rooms were full so I couldn't be moved elsewhere. And I got the Covid speech which I am sympathetic with. So we stayed. It was still tattier and noisier than I would have liked but maybe now isn't the time to make a scene. We had a nice time apart from the room. Thanks for your help Thanks

And I got the Covid speech which I am sympathetic with

True - but the absence of Covid wouldn’t make a sea view magically appear

Aridane · 31/08/2020 21:41

Glad you had a nice time
