Leeds - The Queens Hotel or Premier Inn?!

DH is 40 this year and I want to book a night in Leeds for me, him and our 4 year old DD in June. Have trains sorted but can't decide on hotel. It is a surprise for DH so can't ask his opinion! I don't want to go mad in terms of cost. Queens is coming in at £124 for a family room and buffet breakfast. Looks nice. Premier Inn is £104 with breakfast. I guess what I'm asking is wether or not it's worth paying the extra 20 quid for a hotel that is not a premier inn! Any advice would be great. Thanks.

Neither. Malmaison.

ilovelamp2 · 05/04/2015 23:16

Malmaison is lovely moving but they don't seem to have rooms suitable for the three of us. Thanks though.

Oh that's a shame. They definitely had kids there when I last stayed. Have you given them a ring just in case?

ilovelamp2 · 05/04/2015 23:25

No but I could do that tomorrow when DH is at the gym! Thank you!

The Marriott is also nice and not too far away from the train station, just to add another option. Smile

Follyfoot · 05/04/2015 23:32

Have you looked at Roomzzz? They do a two bedroom suite with kitchen, living area etc for about £115 at the weekends, cheaper in the week.

ilovelamp2 · 05/04/2015 23:36

Marriott is nice but a bit out of budget to be honest - £150 without breakfast.

Roommzz looks great! Only seems to be one bed in both the studio and the apartment though ...

Sorry about that! I think he have paid so much less than that before. I will have a look at hotels in Leeds that we have stayed in. Smile Queens used to be nice but that was years ago and I haven't been there since. Premier Inns are always a good night's sleep.

ilovelamp2 · 05/04/2015 23:47

Thank you Pixa! Feel like I am going around in circles! Have stayed in Leeds for a hen night about 15 years ago, in the Marriott I think, but that's it!! I know nothing!

This is the maxima suite with two bedrooms.

FireCanal · 05/04/2015 23:52

Which Premier Inn are you thinking about? Weekday or weekend?

The one near the arena is very noisy with pissed people at weekends, but fine during the week. The Leeds City West one is easily walkable into the centre and quieter, and used to be a bit cheaper at weekends than the other one (not looked very recently though).

The Novotel is good and wasn't particularly expensive last time I stayed there.

ilovelamp2 · 05/04/2015 23:53

Thanks Folly - that looks amazing and what a bargain! Typical that it's not available on the 27th June. Have ear marked it for a girly weekend on October though - will be perfect!

Roomzzz is a fair old walk from the city and opposite student accomodation too.

If you are not bothered by city center try the Hollins Hill Marriott, that will have better rates - the city one rarely has offers any more as it is always busy so no need.

Jury's Inn was crap when we stayed in December so I'd give that a miss.

What dates are you looking at and could see whether theres anything else out there?

KnobJockey · 05/04/2015 23:55

Stayed at the Crowne Plaza last night, not sure what price it comes in at but it was very nice.

Follyfoot · 05/04/2015 23:56

Aw, thats a shame. You can join their Royalty club and get good discounts, and the further you book ahead, the cheaper it is too. Not stayed at the Leeds one, but the Newcastle one is great. They're cheap because there's no restaurant (you can take breakfast back to your room) and there arent lots of staff on duty.

ilovelamp2 · 05/04/2015 23:57

Thanks Fire. I think it was the arena one. There was a message on the website about noise ... We will be there on a Saturday night so think that rules that one out. Is the other one within walking distance from the train station do you know?

Glad you liked the Newcastle one Folly - Geordie girl over here Smile

Good to know about Jury's Inn Ilove as was also considering that one.

I've just checked, its the Leeds City Gate one on Wellington Street I was thinking of. Its about a 10 min walk from the train station. Don't go for any of the ones further out - not so nice and not accessible for the centre without a car.

ilovelamp2 · 06/04/2015 00:03

Thanks for Crowne Plaza suggestion - apparently three people "exceed the room capacity"!

We stayed at residence 6 which was v family friendly and right next to the station.

ilovelamp2 · 06/04/2015 00:08

Thanks Fire - that one looks great! 90 quid including breakfast. Could be a goer! Does anyone know if it's worth paying a bit more for The Queens?! We're not fussy but just thinking that it is a BIG birthday - is a premier inn okay?! Agh! Why can't I make a decision? Need to book it soon and then get to bed!

Thanks Mae - looks lovely! Fully booked though ....

Have you tried the Holiday Inn Express by the Armouries? I've never stayed there but the setting is a bit nicer if its a special birthday.
