For me, I'm very happy in Derby. My 'if I could live anywhere' location is less than 5 minutes away (I have this odd shape of it drawn up on Rightmove as we're hoping to move at least near there this year). My dream would be to live between that area's library, parks, and where DP works so they would more or less in walking distance, hopefully near or on a road with a bus stop and shop.

Groovee · 08/01/2015 20:49

We live in Edinburgh. But I would move to Beverley in Yorkshire if I had the chance x

On avg £40 return for car on island rates . foot passenger about £6 each way, However I work on island and so mostly travel her, but buy a book of 20 return ar ferry ctickets for £ 400 for all year does us fine for what we want . often go foot passenger anyway .. you can get books of cheaper tickets also if you go regularly .

However depends on what you do , if you work on mainland and travel each dayyou'll need as eaon.. look at wightlink / red jet, just depends on what you are doing..

Check out Rightmove , for island properties and see.

Dorset or Somerset probably. I love Cornwall but it's just so far away!

unclebumpkin · 08/01/2015 20:55

We could never have afforded the house and garden we have here in Brighton..never ever in a million years..but good luck with your search..

unclebumpkin · 08/01/2015 21:05

I like the IOW - nice place - but think I'm looking somewhere on the mainland probably...

Id like to live by a river or a lake, or both, somewhere with lots of trees and good shops, library, etc.

Where that place is, I don't actually know.

I love the open spaces of Northern England but couldn't face the climate, long term.

mothermirth · 08/01/2015 21:21

Panicmode1 far away from where/what? Depends on your perspective…

Shockers · 08/01/2015 21:37

I'm not sure I'd go far from where I am now; North Lancs, about half an hour from South Lakes.

The only thing wrong with my town is that there is no station. Arnside has been mentioned... I love it around there and there's a station in Silverdale, so that would work.

helensburgh · 08/01/2015 21:41

Beautiful Galloway.

Just over an hour to Glasgow.

5 on train to London

Yet so unspoilt, brilliant beaches, forests, fab schools and a relaxed way of life.

forago · 08/01/2015 21:45

pembrokshird coast if I could work from home permanently - maybe only in the summer though :)

holmessweetholmes · 08/01/2015 21:46

Where I live (since we moved in October ). Area already mentioned a couple of times - South Lakes, near the Lancashire border, just near Arnside and Silverdale. Absolutely beautiful, near coast, forests, lakes and mountains, people are friendly, house prices pretty reasonable, schools are good.

unclebumpkin · 08/01/2015 21:50

i have family in the south-east so maybe it'd be nice to not be too far away from them... like scotland for example...

London WC1.

trinitybleu · 09/01/2015 11:55

Exeter

Laska42 · 09/01/2015 17:17

Chichester is also lovely but ££

Panicmode1 · 09/01/2015 18:05

So far away from civilisation...! No, not really, but it's empty in winter and too full in the summer with grockles, so would rather be Somerset or Dorset - still have beautiful scenery and beaches, but can get to London in 3 hrs or so....

Cornwall, Lakes, Perthshire or Arran.

Millli · 09/01/2015 20:02

I live on the side of a mountain, near a little village by the sea in North Wales. Love it.
