Murder in the badlands is excellent. Just added to Netflix

coffeorbust · 19/10/2023 18:52

Agree about Murder in the Badlands. The poem at the beginning of each episode is haunting (beautifully narrated by Saorise-Monica Jackson who plays Erin in Derry Girls)

The staircase is kind of good. Although it is quite one sided. And the main suspect and his legal team annoyed the hell out of me.

Death Row Stories (free on Prime) is brilliant, especially the "Double Jeopardy" episode. I still can't get my head around it.

Sophie: A Murder in West Cork on Netflix

About the murder of French woman Sophie Toscan du Plantier at her holiday cottage in Ireland in 1996. The police totally bungled the investigation and the prime suspect is still a free man despite being convicted in absentia by a French court.

The excellent podcast Crime Analyst also did a deep dive into the case and came to the same conclusion re the most likely killer.

'The Crime I Can't Forget' on iPlayer.

Code of a killer. Very well done and sensitive to the murdered girls and their families.

https://www.itv.com/watch/code-of-a-killer/2a3242

Code of a Killer is a three-part British police drama television series which tells the true story of Alec Jeffreys' discovery of DNA fingerprinting and its introductory use by Detective David Baker in catching the double murderer Colin Pitchfork.

Set over a three-year period from 1983 to 1986, DCS David Baker leads an investigation of the vicious murders of the two Leicestershire schoolgirls, Lynda Mann and Dawn Ashworth.
Alec Jeffreys at the time was an ambitious scientist who uncovered a remarkable method to read a person's unique DNA finger print.
Convinced the murderer was local, Baker approached Jeffreys to utilise his scientific technique as a way to solve the murders. The first ever DNA manhunt and blood testing of many men followed – all in the aid of catching the killer.

Don't Fuck With Cats - NetflixI think. Brilliant, about web sleuths

MaudGone · 12/12/2023 22:13

Should have said, 'The Crime I Can't Forget' is exclusively about cases in NI or Ireland.

APurpleSquirrel · 12/12/2023 22:36

I really liked Wild Crime on Disney+ & The Murdaugh Murders.

junebugalice · 12/12/2023 23:20

American Murder- the family next door on Netflix. Not sure if it’s been mentioned but it’s a tough watch, feel so sorry for the woman and her kids.

RachelGreensHair · 12/12/2023 23:24

If you do watch Making a Murderer, follow it up with Convicting a Murderer.

Redglitter · 12/12/2023 23:26

I like UK ones

Murdertown
Murder at my door and
Killer in my village

all really interesting. Different story featured each episode

This is an excellent documentary. I watched on BBC IPlayer, but it's just been uploaded to youtube:

Face Down: The Killing of Thomas Niedermayer - BBC Documentary

"The Ice Cream Wars" on iPlayer is also very good.

RedCorvette · 16/01/2024 23:07

Another vote for 'Still Missing Morgan' on Disney+ - a really well made documentary that unearths new information. It's about Morgan Nick, a five-year-old who disappeared from a baseball game in Arkansas in 1995. It also features segments about another missing child, Jacob Wettering, whose mum has become friends with Morgan's mum.

I'm recovering from flu so watched Still Missing Morgan yesterday. So interesting, so sad. I watched every single episode one after the other.

I had never heard of Morgan or the boy they were also talking about. His story was so sad. Their mums were lovely. I'm glad they had each other.

And today I'm watching The Keepers on Netflix. So upsetting hearing first hand from some of the girls about what happened to them at the school. They are so strong.

I want to say thank you for the great recommendations but that doesn't feel quite right considering the subject matter.

baileybrosbuildingandloan · 20/01/2024 20:07

Evidence of Evil on ITVx -Some I'd never seen before.

eyespartyparty · 20/01/2024 21:04
