Due to go on holiday soon for a few weeks. I'd like to take a new game in case of rain/general boredom. We are travelling by car so space not a huge issue. Me, DH, and kids are 9 and 12 and enjoy a challenge. We've got value out of Quirkle, Pictionary, Cluedo, and family Trivial Pursuit, for example. Might be nice to have a smallish game suitable for taking to a pub but also interested in board games. 2019 is the summer of.....?

Dobble

funmummy48 · 17/07/2019 21:03

I was just coming on to say Dobble but see I’ve been beaten to it! 😉

Adesignforstrife · 17/07/2019 21:13

Yes we have dobble and we love it! Grin. There must be something else!

Pass the Pigs is fun and travel friendly.

ScarlettDarling · 17/07/2019 21:15

Labyrinth is bigger but great, it's been a favourite here for years.

TemporaryPermanent · 17/07/2019 21:36

Chinese checkers? I used to love it as a kid. Or embrace poker (I always had to have a book next to me to check the rules).

BlodwynBludd · 17/07/2019 21:45

Have you got bananagrams?

Thereshegoesagain · 17/07/2019 21:49

We love Uno.

PrincessSarene · 17/07/2019 21:54

Exploding kittens?

percypig · 17/07/2019 21:55

Exploding kittens, Phase 10 or Yahtzee

WingBingo · 17/07/2019 21:55

Yes Bananagrams is good if you don’t have it.

DeanImpala67 · 17/07/2019 21:55

Recent game faves of ours include:-

Peach Snaps
Avocado Smash

Rummikubs

Sushi Go - card drafting game, very cute and easy to learn

Meeple Circus - great fun dexterity game (there is a free app for the music/timing)

Exploding Kittens - funny card game

IHeartKingThistle · 17/07/2019 22:07

I can't stress this enough : ZOMBIE DICE.

Our entire household is obsessed with it.

mymadworld · 17/07/2019 22:12

We have absolutely loads of these portable games (stocking fillers for each child for the past 4+ years!) and the ones that always travel with us are:

Monopoly Deal
Yahtzee
Bananagrams
Dobble (more the kids than us)
Couple of Pack of cards

Also like Uno & Shut the Box. Younger kids sometimes take one of the many Top Trumps versions but DH & I cant bare it probably because they always go on so bloody long!

Really not keen on Exploding Kittens, Sushi Go has been donated to school fete, Cluedo Deal (or whatever the boxed card game version is called) is rubbish with the most pitiful instructions.

HTH

Uno, the Game of Life, Looping Louie, Bananagrams, Sumo Slam (bit like pass the pigs).

MrsJakeLovell · 17/07/2019 22:20

Werewolf. Have played this everywhere!

sparkleandsleep · 17/07/2019 22:21

Our favourites:
Monopoly Deal (I hate monopoly but life rbis)
UNO
Pass the pigs

PJMasksGhekko · 17/07/2019 22:22

Definitely UNO, had such fun playing it last year on holiday.

Shelby1981 · 17/07/2019 22:42

Dobble, Uno, bananagrams or Latice

jackstini · 17/07/2019 22:49

Board game wise - Articulate, don't panic, split second, think words

Ours still play Game of life for hours! (13 & 10)

gingerbubs · 17/07/2019 22:54

Bonanza. Or as we call it, the bean game. Instructions make it sound complicated and kind of lame. But I assure you it is addictive and highly competitive.

gingerbubs · 17/07/2019 22:55

Sorry - bohnanza

YesILikeItToo · 17/07/2019 23:02

We take these escape games on holiday - you can only play them once. The mechanism is very clever, and they do present a challenge. You need to gather round a table with a bit of time to spare - small, but not portable.
