What kind of person am I?

I've always considered myself to be fairly liberal, accepting and kind.
I don't know if it's my reaching almost mid 50's, menopause, a huge shift in the way the world is now or what but my mindset has definitely changed. To be clear, here's what I have a problem with:

  1. Donald Trump, Nigel Farage, Boris Johnson, Elon Musk, Andrew Tate and their ilk.
  2. Everyone and their uncle having a diagnosis of autism/Asperger's/ADHD .. Where did these come from and what happened to all the naughty kids?
  3. Trans-rights overtaking human rights or more specifically the rights of women and LGBandQ people.
  4. Little scrotes in balaclavas riding escooters in heavy traffic like the dickheads they are
  5. Bigger scrotes in balaclavas driving vehicles the wrong way down a motorway.

I'm still kind, I'm still thoughtful but I'm also overwhelmed by how society has changed so much that it's unrecognisable.

AIBU to think that we are absolutely fucking doomed?

Wait until you're in your 60s, @mashpatooties , it gets very much worse.

I am a dyed in the wool Socialist and have been for 50 years, but feel my malfunctioning Dalek alter ego emerging at times. It's because we are getting further from stuff being OK.

You’re not a kind person, as other posters have said.

You have chosen to double down on your ableist opinions rather than to listen and learn from those with ND children, even after they’ve taken the time to try and educate you.

Or even those with AuDHD like me who tried to explain. Ah well. Maybe someone else will read it and stop and think.

Yes, apologies! I should have included those who are on the thread and ND also.

LotusMandala · 26/08/2026 20:28

mashpatooties · 26/08/2026 08:39

Yes, it seems that these diagnoses are a catch all for life's problems. Where were all the Nd people 20/30/40 years ago?
Also, why so aggressive?
This is a laid bare post about my upsets and concerns about the world around me. These things affect me on a daily basis in one way or another. Don't you have frustrations and worries about the future? Or do you just know the answer to everything?

All the ND people were mislabelled as naughty, or distracted, or misdiagnosed with anxiety or other things. Doesn’t mean they didn’t exist. Surely you understand this. Scores of people went through life unsupported, myself as a child in the 80’s.

I am now diagnosed AuDHD. I never misbehaved as a child, nor do I use it as an excuse for anything, so this assumption of yours is based on your limited experience. This means you are judging an entire group of people based on very limited data.

And btw I’m not remotely aggressive, I’m simply responding to your blatant bigotry.

And no, I’m a cancer patient so I don’t think about the future. I think about the present and I don’t walk about full of rage like you obviously do.

Try some reflexology, it’s great for that.

JacknDiane · 26/08/2026 20:29

You are correct @mashpatooties.
Nothing to add really.

This is an absolutely disgusting comment to make about Autistic people

Gross

"Nearly all her friends are autistic"..really? Does that not strike you as an example of what I'm saying?

What, that these young people are drawn to each other for safety and support, protected away from people like you?

Sounds like a good plan

We tend to run in packs.

as one of my friends says. If all your friends are autistic I have something to tell you.

‘That’s my experience’

maybe the type of person you are is an ‘un-curious about other people’s lives or experience or ways of viewing the world’ type of person.

you’re missing out!

Reassurancells · 26/08/2026 21:19

The ableism on here is disgusting. Replace adhd or ND or autism with any other protected characteristic and see how the stuff the op has been saying sounds. It’s gross. It’s disgusting and it wouldn’t be acceptable if it was aimed at any other protected characteristic so why is it ok when it’s aimed at us?

mashpatooties · 26/08/2026 21:21

Reassurancells · 26/08/2026 20:00

Not true. I've read every comment several times. Why would I have even made the post if I didn't want people's opinions? These are emotive subjects where I'll likely get a lot of pushback. I'm happy to enter into dialogue and I've said I don't have the answers and can only feel the way I feel based on my own experiences. These are experiences I have daily and have had for several years. Pick any subject that you've experienced frequently and you'll have an opinion on it - based on your own experiences - which will differ from others. I've tried to engage with the people involved to no avail and I've listened carefully to what people have said today. I've taken advice about reading material for example.
Writing me off as a judgemental bigot is as narrow minded as you think me to be.
There are too many people who are defending the types of people I'm referring to in a quick, thoughtless and aggressive way instead of stopping to think why someone might feel the way they do.
I'm being treated like a troll when I'm genuinely trying to find out why I feel the way I do.

My experience of black people has been overwhelmingly unpleasant.

let’s see how long that takes to be deleted.

you made your comment at 08.34 this morning. So that’s the guts of 13 hours.

if it’s ok for you to say about people with a certain protected characteristic, it’s ok for me to say it about people with another protected characteristic, right?

Yes. I have.

your comments are ableist and disgusting. And you should be ashamed of yourself. Replace autism and adhd in every post you made with black people and see how it reads then.

I don’t know why you started the thread. So far you’ve mainly used it to say unkind things about neurodivergent people.

WhereTheFuckAreMyWingsRoy · 26/08/2026 21:34

I feel the same apart from number 2, which I’d reframe as we’re living in a society that doesn’t allow people to thrive, that has forced a great number of people to seek diagnosis to explain why they can’t cope.
I also believe that in trying to be inclusive, within a system (mainly education) that simultaneously destroys them means that the “bad” behaviour is far more prevalent than it used to be, and it’s very difficult to deal with this effectively because, well, you can’t learn to manage the issues if you’re constantly in a state of fight or flight (or fawn or freeze). You need space and peace to do that, and have you seen the education system recently??

Edited to add: took the op on face value, hadn’t realised it was just another day of ND bashing.

Don't you understand that if my experience of something is then that's an honest reaction? It doesn't matter if the something is people with autism, black people, or people who wear glasses. 100% of my interactions with people who I know to have a diagnosis of autism has been overwhelmingly unpleasant.
There might be plenty of interactions I've had with people who are Nd and I don't know.
I'm referring to three members of my extended family who behave awfully on a regular basis and blame it on their diagnosis. I'm referring to people that I deal with in my professional life who have used their diagnosis as a reason to not stick to an agreement they've made/to lash out at me for asking them to behave reasonably/for treating their family members like trash in front of me.
This is my experience.
The post I made today is to highlight just how I've come to realise these things bother me and that my tolerance for such things has hugely reduced as I've got older and that I don't know if it's because I've got older or because the world has become more challenging.

I'm sorry that's all you've got from it.

Have you considered that if 100% of your experiences with autistic family members AND colleagues has been negative, the common denominator is…. You?

My autistic son wouldn’t be able to blame anything on his diagnosis, because he can’t talk.
He’s a much nicer person than you though.
